The best part was that this entire event was free, which was a pleasant surprise considering how much I've spent to see anything Phantom of the Opera related in the past. The screening featured appearances by the great grand daughter of Lon Chaney, the actor who played the Phantom, as well as the composer of the evening's score, Scott Lasky. This was such a nice surprise by the theater, and I'm amazed at the effort put into a free event. (Still waiting to see a theater [safely] recreate the famous chandelier scene). The theater is also owned by the city of La Mirada, so it's nice to see the city investing in making arts more accessible for the public. The theater was clean and tidy inside, and the seats felt spacious compared to other theaters. The venue staff were friendly and efficient, and actively managed the bathroom ques to keep it flowing quickly, which I had never seen before but wish more venues implemented. Parking was spacious and plentiful, as the theater sits in a plaza and has a shared lot with other restaurants and a gym. I will definitely be looking to come back to the La Mirada theater for future screenings or productions.

Alohi's is ran mostly by a close knit, family-like group of people. There are several dance instructors for various styles of dancing, including Polynesian, jazz, hip hop, and Zumba. The instructors are kind and friendly, and class availability is offered six times a week. They perform all around OC and LA, including at many charity events. The studio itself has plentiful space to dance, and sufficient seating to watch your kids/significant other/whatever. If all the couches happen to be full, then there's more of an excuse to join in the dancing! Every single student (dancers/performers) I've become acquainted with have been kind and friendly. There is virtually no drama, and the aura is quite passive. The instructors stress perfection and may come across as strict at times, but that's normal for any passionate teacher. Having no basis for comparison, Alohi's isn't perfect; no person is; no studio is. However I do believe this is a fantastic environment to be in to learn/improve on whatever dance you're interested in. I really enjoy being surrounded by the people encompassing this studio, and I encourage whoever is reading this to cultivate their curiosity by stopping by this studio. We parked inside the school campus for free but there appeared to be street parking available in the neighborhood. I expected basic elementary school productions, but I was so surprised and impressed by how professional they were and by the performances of all the students. That experience led us to sign my eight-year-old grandson up for their summer production of James and the Giant Peach, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Kris Huston and her team truly focus on teaching the fundamentals of musical theater. The students aren't just learning their parts--they're learning real theater skills and what goes into putting on a quality production. I've watched my grandson grow and polish his skills through these three productions, while gaining confidence and, most importantly, having so much fun. You can see that same growth and training reflected in the wonderful performances of all the students. Floors are a bit slippery but of course no street shoes should touch the floor however this was a pop up workshop so the shoes were definitely on the floor. This is my first and probably only time here so I'm only going based off my one experience here and nothing really blew me away.
