I originally called Clean Air to check out an old scary pellet stove in a house I just purchased. They came out and did an inspection, free of charge, and then reasonably said "we can't fix this" (it was super old and rusty and definitely not going to be safe) - and so we discussed options. The guy worked through some different heating options with me, since I wanted to replace the old baseboard heaters. After we settled on a mini split heat pump, he stayed and took some measurements and we came up with a quote on the spot, considering the different pump sizes, brands, and layouts. They then worked with me to get the financing to make it possible. The installation for 2 outdoor units and 3 heads was done in a single day, and then another day for the electrical work to hook up. The crew was very nice and respectful of my space. Unfortunately some control wires got crossed during the installation (so the coolant was going to the wrong unit) and it took me a while to diagnose why the temps were so weird between the two units upstairs. But once I called and asked about it, they came right out and fixed the issue and it's been working great ever since! read more

Not a customer, but a neighbor of a customer. There was no reason why their van had to be parked on the sidewalk, but it was. This sidewalk connects two sections of a heavily-used recreational trail, but because it was parked on the sidewalk, people had to walk into the street to get around it. Lots of elders in this neighborhood use that sidewalk for their exercise. There isn't a sidewalk on the other side of the street that people can use instead. I contacted the company via FB to let them know, but got no response. I'd waited an hour before posting here hoping that my FB message would prompt them to move it. Didn't happen. It was parked there for at least an hour before I went to FB. I know who I WON'T be calling for HVAC services. Rude, y'all. read more

Clean Air Heating & Cooling - Company van parked on sidewalk. - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Bellingham, Washington

Terrible experience. I had a power outage that caused my Napoleon fireplace to stop igniting and I called Clean Air to come out and see what the issue was. The tech Michael came out and immediately seemed perplexed by the issue but after about an hour and a half of messing around determined that it was the main control board and that he would get me a quote for a replacement part and to come back out. He then billed me over $350 for the diagnosis. I then waited a couple of weeks pestering the main office to get my quote for the repair. Guess how much? $1500. $1000 for the part and another $500 for labor and tax. I have some connections and managed to source the part myself for less than $300. I've heard of cost plus markups on parts but triple the cost.....really? I got Clean Air and Michael to agree to come out and replace the part using the part I sourced and only charge for labor. Guess what? After spending another hour or so replacing the part there was a new error code and the fireplace still didn't work. Michael promised to reach out to Napoleon to help him diagnose the problem and get back to me when he had an answer. That was 4 weeks ago and I never heard from Clean Air or Michael again. Like a fart in the wind. Gone. Not even a courtesy call letting me know that they had no idea how to fix my fireplace and sorry about me wasting $1000 on a part and 2 useless service calls. I guess I just had it coming. In the end I called Innovations. Their tech came out found a high limit switch tripped and reset it. No parts required. Less than 30 minutes to fix it. I had them come in a year and a half ago, and while the technicians were professional and they had the appearance to know what they are doing by busting out voltmeters and things, they ultimately failed to notice that my heat pump was hooked up incorrectly to my new thermostat. If they were worth their salt as HVAC technicians, It is unfathomable that they would not be able to notice that error as the outdoor unit did not run at all. I found out this expensive mistake the hard way when I got another company in to look at the unit for maintenance this year and as a result I would not recommend my business to them. read more

I did not use this company for my furnace repair as they charge $365 for a trip charge to come out to Lummi Island which included no service. Above and beyond that they charge $132 an hour for their services, which I don't take issue with, to evaluate the problem. That is the highest price for a trip charge to Lummi Island that I have ever experienced by far. It was stunning. I had a long email exchange with Colin who continued to defend his trip rate. I see they get good reviews for service but even good service has a cost ceiling, especially for people who are on a limited budget. When you buy a former hoarders property you know there will be problems that need fixing. With our 'new' home, we inherited an old furnace that had a slow but steady gas leak, that periodically refused to heat and basically guzzled a full 250 gallon propane tank every month just coughing out cold air. It was costing us $500 a month, for nothing. Having just bought the home, we were cash poor. We are not made of money. I contacted five local companies for help. Paying $160 an hour plus a call out fee for a dying furnace seemed a waste of money to us, but it's what others wanted to charge us before they would even come out and look at it. We were concerned that they would spend two minutes looking at the furnace, pronounce it dying, which we already knew, take the money and leave. That's not service. Colin, of Clean Air Heating & Cooling was different, he offered to come out and take a look and take it from there. We were so relieved. He duly made an appointment, and turned up when he said he would. Here was a technician who actually arrived on the day, and time that they said they would. I was already impressed. Punctuality is important. Time is money, if you take a day off work for an appointment, you can't wait in all day for nothing. He checked it thoroughly and gave us various options. To repair it, (and he outlined the probable costs) or to replace it. He made sense. With such an old furnace, with total long term neglect we would be throwing even more money away. Did they even do parts for it? He went through everything thoroughly. What did we want? What was our budget? What was important to us? Did we have allergies? When were we thinking of doing the project? Did we need help with financing? Did we need a payment plan? We were most surprised at the reasonable cost that he quoted that we signed on the day. We agreed when the project would start and I couldn't wait! One thing that I need to add here, it's all very well having a new furnace installed, but if your duct system is leaking, and/or dirty the benefits of the heating provided will be lost, through the vents. I hadn't even thought of that. Luckily Colin had. More sense. We arranged for that to be done by them too. (See my separate review for that). The old furnace was removed in what seemed like minutes. They were safety conscious, thorough and efficient. I was impressed. They obviously know what they are doing. Next came the installation. Because of the former owners DIY installation of the old furnace, David and Isiah had to work extra hard and fix all those problems first before fitting the shiny new furnace. We hovered in the background, fascinated by all the work being done. They worked well as a team. Installing the furnace was not easy, but they managed it. We were excited to see it progress. Much testing and double checking later they fired it up. Wow. The 95% efficient furnace quietly purred into life, and before we knew it we were all sweltering and hot. My husband and I smiled at each other. Just wow, we were so glad that we chose this company! As David checked all the vents for the temperature, I mentally vowed to turn the heating thermostat down. We are delighted with the work done. The furnace is quiet, completely efficient. The house is warm. No more propane wasted. We can already imagine the savings to our heating bill! We are now fully ready for winter 2021. The work was completed on time. They were polite, friendly, informative to the work being done. They cleaned up before they left. All in all, we cannot recommend them highly enough. Everyone at this company goes above and beyond to ensure the job is done. They are reliable and complete professionals. Clean Air charged me $178 to come out to my house. What did they do for that $$? Nothing. They did not provide a quote to repair or replace my old furnace. They sent me something saying in effect "yep, it's busted alright." Which I already knew. Did they give me an estimate to fix my old furnace? Nope. I asked them several times, and eventually, they promised to but did not deliver. Called 2 other companies, got a detailed bid on the work immediately. So simple. I would not recommend this business after terrible experience. Service inspected my ducts the 2 inspectors didn't even give me the same explanation of what to do then they never followed up with my estimate, the estimate didnt include what was spoken about, in other words from beginning to ending confusing and lack of consistency or care of the customer, I regret even paying them $300 to inspect, on top of that they tried to stick me with their extra service contract fee which I didn't accept, and told them I wanted a refund several times and they still haven't refunded me. I don't they are a good company, and I highly suggest avoiding them at all costs.and by the way I did get my estimate, it took them however 14 days to get it to me, and didn't reflect everything they were saying they would give an estimate, I had written Colin several messages over several days complaining about no estimate and bad service for a few days without getting any response. Im sure hell come on and defend his company but it is what it is, they brag of great service but failed to deliver that's all, and Colin it's only $10 I'm asking for back. Sheesh. My experience with clean air was horrible. I've been ten days thru 20 degree weather with snow and north east winds without my heat furnace I had clean air come to fix the problem . The serviceman said he would contact his tech about the issue and call me on the results I've not received a call from him I then called the company about the no call and she said she would call me when she contacted the serviceman on the issue. It is now one week since that call and I've not received any contact about what may be wrong or if they intend to help me I am still without my furnace read more

This is a terrible company. Do not use! My experience was from a routine annual service on all my equipment including my gas fireplace that had started making noise from the fan blower. In checking the system the technician blew out my fan motor. He admitted it was his mistake and the company agreed to replace it at their expense. After the new fan was finally installed and several trips later, it became obvious the technician had no clue what he was doing. It was making such a screeching noise I couldn't even use it. It is my belief and I think they knew they gave me either an old, used, wrong, or even a defective part. Every time he worked on it, it got worse. This was also during the winter months when it's nice to have your fireplace working! Finally on the last trip and the last band aid solution they advised me that I was on my own, they would no longer help me. I don't care if it takes you a dozen more trips, you broke it, you should fix it! But they didn't see it that way. Also because I wouldn't join their club is what I believe influenced their decision not to help me even more. They wanted me to join some program and pay some astronomical fee to be a preferred customer. Why would I want to pay a company a fee every month when I only do an annual service on my equipment? You do the math. My home is only about 6 years old. Think about this. If you joined their little club what recourse did you just give yourself? Now you're stuck with these morons who don't have a clue what they're doing. My fireplace still isn't right but will definitely seek better help in the future. They can dispute this review all they want but the bottom line is that they broke my fireplace and when they realized they were too stupid to know how to fix it and make it right told me I was on my own and completely dumped me. We recently purchased a 17 year old home with a boiler for radiant in floor heating and hot water. We needed servicing on it and they were very knowledgable and came out to service our Viessmann boiler system. We'd called other service providers who'd never even heard of it. Colin and Adam serviced our equipment and found several non functioning parts. Today Adam came out to replace those parts and did and excellent job. They are professional, knowledgable and excellent communicators. Both times we asked to understand how the whole system worked, as we were totally unfamiliar, and they were gracious to explain. It's like déjà vu with my prior review, dealing with a Colin and lack of ownership when things go awry. I hope when you're reading this, you see that I'm a steady reviewer through the years that's not a one-hit (review) wonder. I went with Clean Air Comfort Systems and have regretted it after their half-assed unorganized ductless heat pump installation. Since a lift wasn't brought to install my mounted heat pump, I'm left with a scratch and dent HVAC device after they smushed the fins. The exterior lines weren't insulated properly according to the non-profit Community Energy Challenge folks who performed a post-install inspection. My primary head unit dripped condensation inside my place causing damage. Employees peeled off the plastic film early that protects the head units' plastic covers from being scratched during installation, and guess what happened. Colin used caulking instead of wood putty to fill very small holes, which in turn stained the wall's paint. After the install, insulation was left throughout the basement. The electrician who they work with didn't pull a permit. I could rant on with more problems, but you've gotten the point. I should have known better after my first estimate appointment was a no call, no show situation. Colin's initially an amicable guy, but started to do the blame game (directed at me) after I contacted PSE and Mitsubishi about the various post installation challenges. After my last communication with Colin, no one ever came out to rectify the remaining problems. The icing on the cake was Colin tried to bill me for more than was in the original quote. read more

So i got these guys' name from PSE. Extremely disappointed. Called and the receptionist said she would have technician call me but as they were down some people it would probably be around 8 pm. No call. Called again two days later. Technician was in and I could speak to him. Colin apologized as they were down people because of illness. Explained I wanted to add gas line for fire pit. Said he'd get numbers to me. Asked me to send pictures. I told him i wasn't crawling under house. He said no need just show pictures of where I wanted it stubbed out. Then proceeded to tell me not to be shocked by price because underground piping is expensive. I asked what pipe he was going to use as I work in construction. Then he back pedaled and said it was the fittings that were expensive. Not!!!! Really just because I'm a woman does he think I'm stupid. Asked for an estimate. He said he'd send over as soon as I sent pictures. Sent pictures and asked him to come look at job on 5/17. Received email response that they got pictures on 5/18. No call since. Called PSE and asked for a different contractor referral. They sent me same one. This generated another referral which should have at least gotten me a phone call. Nope- nothing. Poor customer service and I feel they were trying to jack the price up. Unsure as I never got a quote. read more
