I was charged $232 just for the serviceman to show up at my door. The labor and parts for the repair were an additional charge. $500 bill for a fan relay switch. I have used them before, and they were reasonable. Not so now. And don't bother to try to call them to discuss the bill. I just paid because I gave up. I don't think they ever heard what I was saying. I felt I was ripped off BEFORE they even got there. I was charged an hour's worth of labor for a 15-minute drive. I'm an old man living on Social Security, but even if I were rich, $232 was WAY TOO MUCH to pay before they even set foot in your door. read more

We had our home and two rentals serviced by Smith Mechancial. They quoted us one price and then charged us more. After 3 calls to the company to discuss our bill, we gave up. Apparently only the boss can discuss billings and he doesn't return phone calls. What we ended up with was Poor Service - 2 of the 3 furnaces inspected did not even get new filters installed. And in the End, we ended up paying $450 more than if we had gone to Lynden Sheet Metal instead. We'll never use Smith Mechanical again and we certainly want to caution others not to make the same costly mistake we did. read more

The communication up front was so clear, so it was a obvious choice to go with Smith. This past winter our furnace went out. We called Smith Mechanical and talked to Bill Hackett. Even tho we were not existing clients, when he heard we had been without heat for 6 weeks, he came directly to our house from work (on his way to the airport!) and arranged to get us a new furnace installed within 2 weeks. The company we'd been working with weren't able to get out to even talk about a new furnace for two weeks! The following day, Bill called from Texas to say he had found a better deal for us. Do yourself a favor. Don't get their services. You will take back 5 years of your life from avoiding stress in dealing with this company. They provided several options for our install and never tried to upsell us. They remained in contact throughout the entire process and have checked in a couple of times after the install completion to ensure everything was working fine. Is 10 stars an option? I had a very unfortunate situation in my home and in desperate need of a HVAC professional. Smith Mechanical was quick to return my initial phone call and had an estimator out quickly. I found the pricing to be fair and reasonable so I decided to work with them. Because of the nasty nature of my project I was a little sensitive to the timeline and wanted it fixed quickly. Smith Mechanical was able to accommodate my need for prompt attention. I was blessed to have Noah and Brandon come and work on my home. They maintained a very professional and empathetic attitude throughout a difficult project and took pride in ensuring my home was left in significantly better condition than when they arrived. They are wonderful young men. My wife and I now have clean air to breath in our home. I'm very grateful for Smith Mechanical and would recommend them many times over!!! read more

Called at 8:15 am after a long holiday weekend to have my furnace repaired,and was told that they had a lot of calls this morning. She thought she could get someone to help me "sometime" today,but could not give me a time. She said someone would call before they came . Around 9:30 I got a call and the tech said he was 15 minutes away. He arrived and figured out the issue quickly and got the furnace working again. Very quick and professional. read more

They arrive Late, and leave early, but charged us for the full time, and they Charge drive time from the "OFFICE", (an extra $100), They forget to tell you that, and with ALL the details on the website, like,"FREE ESTIMATES", they FORGOT to add, "Ohh by the way we will charge YOU to come do the work for which we will ALSO charge you". The "expert" took 2 hours to figure out the problem was the Thermostat, then he took 27 minutes to replace it, The other charges were Drive time and using his tablet to note things, we have monitors around the garage so we could see him just typing away, Hardly "WORKING" on our broken heater! Did we mention the First bill we received didn't have a date of service on it? The office staff assured me they would send a new statement! DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE.....EVER! UPDATE::: When I told them that "FORGETTING" to tell us they charge to DRIVE TO YOU, they Knocked off $100.00. She said "Sorry for the Miscommunication". No, Miscommunication is when you say, We will be there Monday then arrive Tuesday. Leaving out that you charge for TRAVEL, from the Office is Cheezy! Already had 3 service calls because they forgot to turn them on, and various other issues- and now that it's finally summer and reached 80 degrees they have BOTH turned off. I am a newcomer to this town and selected this outfit soley because of their online reviews. Quoting their website, "Our services cover every type of HVAC request including boilers, furnaces, heat pumps, ductless systems, commercial refrigeration sales & services, water heaters, on-demand water heaters, air conditioning units (Commercial & Residential), and more." So it appeared to me that they know it all. And since I have a hot water system that is different than anything I have ever seen, I had to wait for over a month for an appointment and thought it will be all worth it at the end. What a disappointment that was!! Although the technician was very nice and polite, he was not capable of finding out where the problem lies that was preventing us from getting hot/warm water for more than 2 minutes at a time. So I got nothing from that appointment that was stretched (lasting for one hour and fifteen minutes) other than a bill for $135.88, which I paid quietly. Below is a quote of what was written on that bill. " Customer feels that the water is not reaching correct temperature. Explained system to homeowner. Appears to be a plumbing problem. Absolutely fantastic. Our furnace quit on a rainy 40 degree day at 4 in the afternoon--of course. Called Smith, said rest of the day was booked, but could schedule an after 5 emergency call--I said let's do that. At 5 pm, I got a call from the tech, Ryan, said he was just finishing a job, would be here just after 6 and he showed just after 6. In about 20 min, he found some corrosion on the main furnace panel causing a bad connection (furnace is 16 yrs old), fixed the connection and ordered new panel to install the next day ($200 part). This is all great, but the real "5 star" rating in my mind is that this was the perfect opportunity for an unethical company to say "your furnace is toast, you need a new one, 6000 bucks please." Smith did not do that--I am very grateful and know this is an honest, high quality, service company. read more

Furnace and tankless water heater installed by Smith Mechanical. Used them for first year general maintenance. Had general maintenance performed second year. Price doubled to the point that foregoing general maintenance for a few years would probably cover future repairs, if needed. Was told they went from hourly rate to a set cost, but service person did nothing different and was there roughly the same amount of time. My fault for not asking the cost beforehand, but didn't expect price to double in one year. read more

Today was my first experience with Smith Mechanical and it was very positive. Our furnace shut down right in the midst of the recent snow and cold fronts and I couldn't get it going again. So I called Smith. They didn't have a regular opening until two days away, but gave us high priority and rearranged some appointments that were less urgent the next day and had a technician (James) at our house at 8 a.m. Thankfully it was just a bad thermostat but James assessed it quickly, replaced it, checked the furnace for any other issues and even gave us a quick and knowledgeable answer to a question we asked about uneven heat distribution at different ends of our home. He set it in motion for Smith to provide us with a solution. I also appreciated the fact they dealt with the real problem and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need or suggest a more expensive solution. They were professional, friendly and very helpful. read more

The technician did a great job diagnosing the initial issue but spent approximately 3 hours of the billed time trying to figure out how to fix it. He resorted to using "Google" to try to find the answer. We bought the thermostat from Smith Mechanical so surely they should know how to service it. When we received the bill for their services we were shocked! The service van doesn't carry any parts so they have to leave the house and go get them---all the while charging for their travel time. It took them 3 trips to service the thermostat they sold us. When we received the invoice we were shocked at the charges. To add insult to injury the bill didn't even have an accurate description of our heating issue. We called the office and were told, "Sorry about that...that was a copy and paste from a different invoice." read more

We had them come to service our A/C unit which wasn't working right. It sounded like it was a jet plane getting ready to take off. The gentleman who came to service the machine was very honest and did a great job of getting my machine working again without charging me for a bunch of unnecessary parts. I would just like to take the time to applaud Smith Mechanical's service and in particular your excellent and highly competent service man Pete. After contacting several residential heating companies and having Dynamic send out a repairman 2 days later I was amazed to watch the Dynamic service man try to fix the furnace. The furnaces error lights indicated a problem with the pressure switch which the service man took a look at but when asked if he could fix it he stared quizically like a dog who'd just been shown a magic trick and replied, well... for about $400 I can replace the upper something or another. I said no thanks and paid the $70 service fee and called Smith Mechanical. Pete came out the same day and put in a temporary switch until the one he'd ordered could get here. He went about his job like he could install one in his sleep. I had heat within an hour and today Pete came out and installed the permanent switch. I'd like to applaud your company and Pete for being by far the most responsive and competent heating individuals I've dealt with to date. read more
