Had an issue in the past with clayground, promised myself I would never go back.... went back reluctantly after my daughter begged me. We painted Pottery for about an hour, paid our $50 and told to come back in about 10 days. Showed up today to retrieve our merchandise and it's nowhere to be found.... No refund, no offer to allow (my now devastated 6yr old) daughter to paint anything else. Called my credit card company, and won't go back again

Spent some time here with my husband and an eight-year-old on a Saturday afternoon to paint only. We ended up having a really nice time and ended up with some cute items! Studio - It's a good-sized space with at least 8-10 tables, each seating four. Each table had a container with brushes of various sizes. Great lighting and plenty of room to maneuver. Ceramics - There was a huge variety of ceramic items lining both walls of the studio. A word of caution, though: the website states that pieces start at $8, but there are not many choices at that price range and prices grow pretty quickly from there. I think the average price was $25 (and that might even be on the low end). Still, plenty to choose from. And I do think they're fairly priced. I just want to make sure folks know what to expect. Service - Being newbies, we asked for help as soon as we walked in and were graciously given a guided tour. A very nice lady (I think the owner?) explained in detail how the paint worked (how the more coats you put, the more vibrant the color) and showed us how it would look once it was glazed. Also worth noting is that you don't get to take your item home the same day as it needs to be glazed and cooked (baked?) in the kiln. We returned the following Saturday and picked up out items which were wrapped and put in a bag. Overall, we, adults and child alike, really enjoyed this experience and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Place has different hours on every site you visit. They don't answer the phone when you call, so you're taking your chances if you show up

Did a search and saw they open at 10am...drove there only to see open at noon printed on the door. I didn't want to disappoint my five-year-old so we sat around and waited. Had a party at 1:30 so was cutting it close. Got in at noon and done by 12:45....stood by the register for FIFTEEN minutes waiting to pay. I was completely ignored by a girl taking pottery out of a kiln who clearly saw us-- didn't even have the common courtesy to say "I will be with you in a minute" (or give me an hour). A couple came in with 2 teenagers...and guess what? --THEY were ignored too. I had to explain to them how to start painting, where smocks were, wetting down the pottery, picking paints etc - - Not my job, but considering you were ignoring them as much as me - - you are welcome Finally..... after waiting and giving directions to other people (now at 20 minutes and I don't have much time to get to the party) I walked out with a crying child. And when I say ignored - - I mean ignored, I sa8d excuse me....I waved my hand, my daughter started crying. There was clearly an employee there, I understand it was helping someone else. But she didn't even acknowledge that there were people waiting for assistance. There was also a woman in the back who she could have asked to come forward to help. My daughter was talking about having her next birthday here - - NO freaking way. I would rather take her back to Disney!

    It's all broken :(

I cant say enough about AJ and Hammer and Stain in North Kingstown. We had the absolute best time…read moreat my daughter's 8th birthday 'art' party! AJ was amazing with the kids, guiding them through exciting art activities with so much patience and enthusiasm. She was able to keep a large party of 16 kids engaged even though the age group was a tad on the younger side. One of the coolest parts? AJ even took music requests! The kids got to rock out to Taylor Swift while they painted, crafted, and danced around--it added such a fun, lively vibe to the whole party . We also found out she has a Taylor Swift summer camp posted. The space was bright, colorful, and perfectly set up for little artists to let their imaginations run wild. There's even a Moms' night out option where you can bring your favorite cheese platter! Every child left with their own artwork and a huge smile on their face. It was the kind of party they'll be talking about for weeks. If you're looking for something creative, engaging, and truly joyful for your child's next celebration, we can't recommend AJ at Hammer Stain in North Kingstown enough!

We grabbed the quick bite and then headed over. Place was kind of hard to find - it's on the backside of the "plaza" it is in and for some reason the GPS doesn't know how to get on the other side (or maybe it was just us) - but since we knew we were in the right area we drove around and found it. They offer a lot of different craft services - pottery painting, mosaic building, candle making, and other kid friendly activities. We opted for the pottery painting. They had a decent selection of pieces to pant - lot of bowl, plate, cup, jewelry holder, planter, etc. types that are functional. The pottery pieces themselves are a little on the pricey side but they do not have a studio fee like other places, so the cost is all inclusive. They have a lot of paint colors to choose from and it's kept pretty organized, so it's easy to find what you are looking for. At the paint station, they had a display of the colors painted three ways - one coat, two coats, and three plus coats and a number for each color. The bottles were numbered accordingly and they had another little color display below the spot for that number. This was VERY helpful! You use the little paint plates (I forget technical name) and can get as much as you need and want as many times as needed. All of the workers were very friendly, ready and prepared to answer any questions, and were happy to walk you through the process, setup, and instructions. They had several table setups all of which were prepared with various brushes and water bowls. There were a lot of other supplies available too. We had a great time. It wasn't extremely busy which was good - I can see this place filling up, but I will say they have a lot of space to accommodate. The turnaround time given was a week, so I will pick up my piece soon and add an after photo. I made a coffee mug and my friend made a display like plate/tray - can't wait to see the results! Would definitely consider going back here for more pottery painting!

They even had pre-made paint palettes as an option. They also have some pottery pieces and things you can paint and take home the same day, but you can't eat from those items as they don't go thru the kiln. There wasn't a ton of variety in the pottery pieces to choose from, and the prices were a bit high compared to what I've seen in the past. We enjoyed our time. There were only two other parties there so it was very quiet and peaceful. Tip: if you use GPS for directions, it'll point you to the building across from theirs. They're right across from the Russian School. Their sign is a bit hidden. They do have a free parking lot.

If that aspect of the business isn't specifically advertised, it can be a bit off putting for someone who doesn't know what they're walking into. Our biggest issue stems from that fact that this place took pictures of my children and put them on their social media. My wife reached out via chat on Instagram and was ignored. My wife called the business and talked directly to the owner and was met with indifference. She said that the Instagram account was ran.by someone else and she would reach out before pushing my wife off the phone. It was eventually removed and replaced, sarcastically, with a picture of my children with yellow smiley faces blocking them. The Instagram account also blocked my wife who only asked for the pictures to be removed. It wasn't until after this that we saw that she also posted pictures of our children to FACEBOOK and those weren't removed. We tried calling again, during business hours, and the phone was off. So I went there and spoke to her myself. I explained to her that putting images of children is against Rhode Island law. After making me wait, she got on her own phone and all of a sudden had access. She deleted the pictures and I went on my way. I don't recommend this place unless you're a religious zealot looking to spend the afternoon with an insufferable Karen who thinks breaking the law is ok because she's "always done it."

She had an attitude right away and said "I mean I can try gluing it but I'm not promising you anything" and it was in front of everyone and it was very awkward. She didn't even seem at all concerned or like she wanted to help us. I personally won't go back here and I won't recommend the place to anyone due to the attitude and lack of service.
