(We had purchased the cabinets and bookcase from somewhere else -- they were not to be custom made). He did practically none of it before he quit without explanation. Mr. Grice never set a firm price, hourly rate, or provided a contract. My estimate of $4000 is what I think labor for the job should have cost. We were to provide the materials. Since I knew him well personally, I was OK with that business relationship. He did agree to the job. The first day of work, he arrived in dress loafers without socks and I immediately began to question my choice of a contractor. He worked approximately 1 day and half of another day and called in sick another day. I paid him $300 for some supplies he said he had to buy for the cabinetry. After he got this small check he never returned. After approximately 10 text and phone messages left on his voice mail over a two week period, he left me a voice message and promised to return in "about 2 weeks" -- after he finished installing a swimming pool at his own house. I said "fine, hurry back, we need you". More than a month later, he has yet to return. I called him approximately 5 more times in June to check on his status and inquire about his estimated date of return to the job site. He NEVER answered those phone calls and NEVER returned my text messages. NEVER. I want to stress that to my knowledge there was no "falling out" and there was no feedback provided whatsoever by Mr. Grice that would lead us to think he encountered a problem with us personally. In fact, we were not even home when he was doing his work---we left a key for him to work on his own. In summary, we cannot recommend Grice Remodeling & Restorations or Mr. Donnie Grice. Mr. Grice has had three different business over the past three years and no matter the business moniker, he is by far the most unreliable and unprofessional contractor I have ever employed.
