I ended up at Spectra Color and was worried my low quantities would be too small of an order for Mark. To my surprise Mark was happy to see me, immediately stopping whatever he was working on and sharing pricing information and additional knowledge about T-shirt and Sweatshirt fabrics and quality. That gave me a head-start and I left to brainstorm for a couple weeks. I came back with samples of art from flyers and a couple wild ideas, plus exact quantities for an order. Mark rolled with the changes in my specifications and even helped me clean up my previous designs so they would look cleaner on the new products. With all those demands and details, I was nervous about telling him I needed the garments in a month. Mark said he could easily get them done in two weeks -- and ended up taking some vacation time off and still delivering my order only ten days later! That boosted my confidence in Mark's abilities, so I returned a couple weeks later to ask if he could blow up my design and put it on a weird banner I had been thinking about. Since he had already improved my original graphics format, enlarging it was easy for him. Mark listened to my ideas, suggested some variations on my ideas, and even provided some better alternatives for mounting the resulting banner securely. Two weeks later (well, probably only ten days, but I didn't return to pick up the results for two weeks) Mark had produced a banner that was better than I had imagined, plus it cost less than the shirts! I'm so glad I found Spectra-Color! Mark was extremely patient in working with me, not just listening to my ideas and fulfiling my order, but collaborating with me when my ideas were vague and helping me to design and deliver fantastic results and high quality products. Spectra-Color may be one of a dwindling number of custom print shops in Simi Valley. His work is top-notch and, from now on, I refuse to take my print jobs to anyone else!

It is pretty customary with Vacation Bible School's that the kids all get matching t-shirts. It is sort of just a thing (although I don't know why, and frankly... I don't think every event needs t-shirts, but whatever). Every year, the big trouble with this ends up being figuring out how many shirts to order because, even with an early bird discount, few parents register their kids early enough for us to take advantage of good online discounts for t-shirt printing. We did the best we could to estimate this year and ordered shirts from VistaPrint. The event starts on Monday, but yesterday (Friday), we received a bunch of new registrations, and all of these kids need shirts. We had ordered some extras, but not enough. My husband called like three other t-shirt printing businesses in town about a rush order. Help -- Can I get shirts by Sunday? (Mind you, there was no graphic design required, just printing. We have the design). Everyone said no, not until mid-week. I put some feelers out into the community on Facebook, and everyone recommended Lee, whom I admit I was a little hesitant to use because I know he doesn't work on this business full-time, and I wasn't sure if he could meet the last minute order in time. He assured me he could, but he didn't have kids t-shirt sizes. We went out and bought the shirts, and my husband brought them to him on Saturday morning. 45 minutes later, they were done. I was really glad we went the route of buying the shirts ourselves, as I liked the quality of these shirts from Target a lot better than some of the Hanes shirts I had gotten from Lee before. My students really like the super soft tee-shirts, and Lee offers Hanes nano-tees, but the price on them is pretty steep, and they just aren't that soft. Plus, some of the women's cuts that we ordered from Lee in the past just ran way smaller than normal, which frustrated some of my students. They ordered a medium thinking it was a standard medium, just cut differently, only to find it was like a juniors size, and just too small. So... I recommend you buy your own shirts so you know exactly what you are getting in cut and size, and pay Lee for printing, because the quality is good. Note -- I do want to comment that digital printing comes out way better on white than other colors. We have done black in the past, and there just seem to be issues.
