Went in to check this place out because I'm new to the area and spotted a cute black pencil skirt in the window. Went in to see what size and how much the skirt was bc they were having a sale. Well turned out the skirt was reasonably priced and my size, so I told the girl that I'd like to buy it but after asking her boss (I'm assuming the owner) I was told that they, "couldn't do that" but that I can pay for it now but couldn't have it for three weeks. What? When I asked why, I was told they needed to find something new that would match the rest of the outfit. This confused me since I wanted to buy a simple black skirt, and I'm sure they had others that they could throw on the mannequin. The owner acted like I should totally understand how inconvenient that would be for them to sell something to me. Well they lost a sale from me, and any future sales as well. I was also eyeing a Tiffany ring in the glass case, but since it's on display I may not have been able to have that for three weeks either, right? Just poor customer service to me. EDIT: after posting this I walked past the window later and they had posted signs that read "no display items sold" lol. read more

When I walked in, the girl at the counter neither greeted nor acknowledged me. She was wearing headphones and seemed quite inconvenienced when I asked her a question. I won't be going back. I didn't even bother to look around based on the sales girl, but it looked overly packed, and the things there didn't look all that nice. read more

To say my experience with Classy Closet was terrible and disgusting is an understatement. I brought it approximately 33 items in May of 2011 - all high end men suits, blazers, slacks etc. with designer names such as Armani, Zegna and Ferragamo. The store promises in their contract to send checks quarterly and I didn't receive anything for a whole year until I personally had to call TWICE and ask them to send a check for the items that had sold. Only 11 items had sold so I decided to visit the store to pick up my belongings after a full year had passed. The store tells you that if you want to pick up your clothing you have to go find it yourself. I spent 3 hours and could only find 3 pairs of pants and the staff was not helpful at all. Finally the owner (Emanuel) decided to come and look for another hour and still was unable to find my belongings and had no record of it in his computer and promised to pay me for losing my clothing. I would like to reiterate that this was extremely expensive merchandise, at least half of everything still had tags. The owner and I created a new "contract" in which he promised to pay for those remaining items. After 5 trips to this store, I was left completely devastated. Some items the owner had paid for like promised but for approximately 10 items he may as well just spit in my face. His behavior was absolutely atrocious and went back on his word to pay me for the items that I had trusted him and his store with and then trusted that he would pay me for his mistakes. He made as if he was always going to pay making me come back to the store over and over again when I live 45 minutes each time saying he needs more time, doesn't have a copy of the paperwork of my account etc. He literally admitted he lost my clothing and was going back on his word and basically just didn't want to pay me because legally he didn't have to. I highly suggest you STAY AWAY from this place as you can leave feeling extremely betrayed as I did. read more

Classy Closet is a great place to both shop and consign old clothes. The staff is friendly and the selection is great, especially for the prices. I've purchased Prada, St. John, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Cole Haan and Ferragamo shoes, Bakelite jewelry, fur coats in good condition, and other pieces here. The dressing rooms are a little sad and the building is old, but the merchandise is really great for the prices. They are SO much friendlier than other consignment shops in Evanston. read more

I am a Chicagoan and drive to Evanston just to shop at Classy Closet. I do better there than I do at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Nordstroms, and its Rack, and other retail stores. Even though the clothing is used, the quality of most items is much better than all the new stuff being manufactured in China. True that some of the prices are high, but I've always been able to negotiate down to a price that works for both the owner and me. He is a very pleasant person. I have been shopping at thrift stores, consignment shops, yard sales, etc. for decades and this store is my favorite. read more

I don't recommend consigning here. In my opinion the owner and his staff are a bit shady with their business practices. I consigned a ton of high end things with them. They promised me that my stuff would bring in a lot of money. I guess what they meant was that they'd get all the money. When it came time for me to receive my cut of the sales I had the hardest time getting them to send me my check. I called and left multiple messages. They always promised me that "the check was in the mail" but of course it never came. Finally I went in and demanded my check which turned out to be pennies for the thousands of dollars worth of designer clothes that they took. Dealing with them was a complete waste of time and energy. You're better off consigning somewhere else or selling it yourself on ebay. I'd even recommend donating before dealing with them because in the end you'll feel cheated out of your money and stuff. read more
