Classic Barber Shop at 121 E Commonwealth, Fullerton was a very pleasant surprise. The outside is a storefront but the inside is comfortable, cool and very clean. The employees are Hispanic and make you feel very relaxed. They give you the full treatment paying attention to details. The straight razor was dull but the other amenities were delightful. DISAPPOINTED!! So it's my birthday weekend and thought I could use a nice haircut. But no, I have been coming here for quite a bit now and Maria usually cuts my hair well. As a returning customer I expect to have the same quality of attention every time, But I arrived and she started cutting my hair. By now I'm used to the feel of the process of getting my hair cut, steady paced and detail oriented. And that's how like it. But as My hair was being cut another man walked in, he mentioned he had an appointment at 12. My hair was already in the process of being cut 5 mins prior. So I could feel she started rushing on my hair a bit, not too rushed but it still left room for error. My side part came out uneven and on the right side of my hair she missed a spot with the scissors and left uneven. At first I gave the benefit of the doubt and thought to myself that maybe I just need to wash my hair and add product. So I did and it frustrated me even more because of the clean look I go for. It was annoying to notice it still even after styling my hair. I wasted my time and money coming here for a sloppy job. If I wanted a screwed up hairline I would've done it myself for free. The reason I wont be coming here ever again is because this was the 2nd strike. I had a previous experience when one of the barbers clippers were defective or something but he cut my hair and left ALL kinds of scratches on the back of my head! It pissed me off, I work in healthcare and my patients were asking if something happened to the back of my head and my neck and I told them the barber did this to me. It was pretty embarrassing. The barber with the hat, glasses and mustache. Needs to read his barber book and learn how to cut hair again. It's like I paid to have my hair screwed again. I just couldn't get over to my regular spot to get my haircut. Time only permitted that it be tonight or next week. I have heard legends of a lady named Maria over in Fullerton. I did my research and sure enough all the Yelp reviews(there's an old location too), articles and compounded evidence pointed toward a good experience. I was first surprised that when I called she could see me at 6:00. I expected with this much hype, there would be no chance of seeing the elusive Maria. I have always been over paranoid about barbers and always do intensive research before going anywhere. Thus, my several 5 star reviews of barbershops. As soon as I walked in, I was seen and Maria asked what I wanted. I explained in detail. "Boxed in the back, no stupid steps or fades, leave the sideburns and parted on the side." I'm not really sure she even got all that but the result was pristine, razor sharp and clean. I never was asked if I wanted the fabled Dos Equis but it's kinda hard to drink while getting a cut. My fiancé and I were so glad we finally found this barber shop a few months ago. The older woman (I believe she owns the place) is wonderful and my fiancé started to get his haircut with her regularly. Even without scheduling an appointment, she was always there and available so there was never a need to schedule one. We finally found a great barber who had a flexible schedule that worked around our odd working hours. Unfortunately, after the most recent visit we will never be returning again. The older woman was not in the shop this most recent time, so my fiancé decided to get his haircut with one of the gentlemen who was available since he really needed a haircut before Thanksgiving. The man cutting my fiancé's hair did not say a single word to him, which is not great service but also not a very big deal (he was just rude, oh well). Now, when it came time to get his haircut, this was the ROUGHEST haircut my fiancé has ever received in his life. He said that he felt like he was getting his haircut in prison from the way this guy was carelessly using a razor and roughly cutting at the back of his head. There was no reason for this type of behavior, because my fiancé is a nice, laid-back guy. Needless to say, my fiancé was not happy. I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to walk away from a haircut upset and with raw skin and scratches all over your head. It's not like either one of them was FORCED to be there. If the guy didn't want to cut his hair, he didn't have to! I don't understand how someone could treat a paying customer that way. It's not like their prices are very cheap...this isn't Supercuts. Of course my fiancé is a man and has been saying it wasn't a big deal, but when I looked at the back of his head the next day and saw all the cuts and scratches, I was shocked. He asked me not to do or say anything about this incident (I was going to give them a call), but I can't sit back and let them think this type of service is acceptable. I do not understand why people these days still provide absolutely horrible service. Why work in a barber shop if you don't want to cut someone's hair?? Is it really so hard to say Hello to a paying customer? Let alone avoid physically harming them?! It's unfortunate that we now have to look around for a new barber. We were pretty happy with this place, but it's not like it's very hard to find other places that do "classic" haircuts. read more

My sister and I brought my little brother in for a haircut as soon as I walked in my sister asked, "can he get a haircut" one of the heavier guys asked the other guy "can you cut it?" But not in the friendliest tone, walking in there was a bit awkward but besides that we got seated to wait and the wait wasn't long at all, it was very pleasant we were asked if we wanted something to drink and then an older lady cut my brothers hair, SHE DID A FANTASTIC JOB. Second time going to Classic Barbers and I must say, I'm glad my brother mentioned this spot. Sundays, haircuts are $15 but if you want a fade with a razor it might be a little expensive for some, but I prefer my fade with an old school razor. Keep up the good work. read more

Me and the boyfriend have been coming here for a while for his haircuts as well as the kids we absolutely love it!!!! Maria is so good with the kids and all the staff is really welcoming and friendly it's better to make an appt because sometimes there can be quite a wait but it's always a fun wait. I enjoy my time here and the BF and kids love all the candy they get I'm sure they'll start a limit with all the candy these guys get haha. They also have a ton of pomades and hair product to choose from and they'll answer any questions you have about them. So i took my husband in there to get a shave and to have his Beard trimmed i called before they said there was no wait so when we got there they called us rite away i went up to the barber and told him what my hubby wanted a straight razor shave on his head and to keep the Length of his beard but just clean it up well lets just say they cut off so much or his beard it look horrible and my hubby had so many small cuts on his head from the guy going so hard the guy didnt listen to anything i said i dont know the guy name because he never talked or asked my hubby anything at all he was the last guy on the left with a angel tattoo on his neck all the other guys were talking and asking there clients if they wanted a water or beer but not the guy we got and then when he was done he charged us $60 bucks when the sign says $35 for a shave and $10 for the beard guess they make there own price maybe because we werent regulars never again will we go back there read more

I am deeply dissatisfied with the service here I came here last minute since my barber was out of town and man o man how i regret it, my hair was cut by the heavier set guy with glasses and he really screwed up my hair. He went as far as to even cut into my hair line and take a piece out the top of my hair the back was uneven and the side burns didn't even match and the guy was in hurry as if he was trying to beat his last cut time. I would really encourage you to not even walk into this establishment let alone consider a cut. read more

Maria is great, make an appointment for her. They seem to be trying out other barbers and their quality varies widely. They often close early, even on busy weekend days when nearby shops have an hour plus wait. Get there at least an hour before closing if you don't have an appointment, and grab a drink at the wine & beer bar next door after putting your name in if there is a wait. read more
