Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens - Salmon and fried rice. So delish!

Amazing. One of my absolute favorite places in all of Lake Lure. I come here every time I'm in…read moretown and it never, ever disappoints!! It's incredible what the owner has done with the place, and the food is awesome. I'm not sure why I'm even writing this review, I'd really rather keep this place quiet and have it all to myself.... But it deserves the five stars.

The location is incredibly quaint--tucked into a cute, woodsy area around Lake Laura. You can't…read moreactually see the lake from the restaurant, but the whole setting still feels peaceful and charming. Today there was even a puppy there, Miguel, who was the sweetest little host/co-host. The hostess was great too--super friendly, patient with all my questions, and just welcoming overall. Another woman, maybe a local or another staff member, also chatted with me while I was waiting, which made the whole experience feel even warmer. The food was outstanding. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. The rice was fantastic, the salad was delicious, and everything on the plate just hit. I also had the seasonal apple cider margarita, which was phenomenal. They even offered me a free dessert--maybe extras from an event the day before--but it was such a thoughtful touch. Before heading out, I grabbed two bottles of wine to go (they had a special) and took a glass of wine to enjoy in one of their outdoor areas. The grounds are very garden-forward. I visited in the fall, so the foliage wasn't at its peak, but the property is undeniably gorgeous. They have fire pits and outdoor heaters everywhere. I took my glass of wine to the back and sat on a swing--the hostess actually recommended it--and it was the perfect little moment. This is where things got a bit odd: once I moved outside, I didn't really feel acknowledged anymore. Maybe because I didn't have a server at that point, but when I left, there was no "Have a good day," which felt a little off after such a great experience. Still, it doesn't outweigh everything else. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Food: 10/10. Vibes: 10/10. I just wish my exit had felt a bit more appreciated--but it is what it is. Loved this place.

Top shelf cocktails and craft beers with a view, we met friends here for a few drinks before dinner…read morebeing we had previously made dinner reservations at a different restaurant. This is a very upscale restaurant and bar set high above Lake Lure, I was told the original structure was built in the 1940's so there's lots of history here and the owner's stick to the historic culture that may seem pretentious to some. There are no can or bottled beers, only crafted beers on tap, they are served in chilled glassware and are ice cold and delicious, the alcohol pours are very generous but are limited to the higher end brands no Jim Beam or Jack Daniel's here the lower end would be Buffalo Trace hey I'm not complaining just saying. Tonight our Bartender was Jenn friendly and a professional mixologist watching her work creating cocktails was pretty amazing. No one in our group had any complaints and probably would of stayed for a few more if time had allowed. The only challenge I experienced was getting here, the narrow drive is somewhat hidden and it was daylight when we arrived, I can't imagine after the sun sets behind the mountains. I did look at the menu and it's quite eclectic and it clearly states no substitutions so for my taste I may have struggled with some of the pairing. I'd definitely return...

She offered the daily specials and made some excellent recommendations for our group. We ordered: -Little Gem "Wedge" Salad (pickled shallot, applewood slab bacon, herb oil, "everything bagel" crunchy stuff, confit tomato, house blue cheese dressing.) -Toasted Ciabatta for the Table (garlic confit, whipped butter, garden herbs, balsamic reduction) -Charcuterie (Chef's selection of two cured meats and two local cheeses, pepper jelly, mustard butter, grilled sourdough + accompaniments) -Chicken Liver & Black Truffle Pâté (cherry mostarda, cornichon, crostini, smoked Maldon salt, whole grain mustard) -Braised Beef Short Rib (grilled wild mushrooms, natural jus, orange gremolata, creamy couscous) -Gemelli (duck confit, toasted pecan, balsamic-brown butter, local apple, Calabrian chili-whipped ricotta, chive) -Steak Du Jour (Chef's daily preparation. charred broccolini, duck-fat fried fingerling potatoes, roasted garlic aioli) The standouts were the charcuterie and the braised beef short rib. The short rib was served over a couscous that was reminiscent of an alfredo, and all 6 of us fought over who got scrape the plate clean! All of the food was immensely flavorful and satisfying. Most of our party had dined at Appalachia before and noted that the quality was consistent. They had looked forward to coming back and said it exceeded their expectations; I agree! I look forward to returning.

Moose & Goose Lounge - Ketel One Up

When traveling on vacation it's always a bonus when you can meet up with friends 513 miles from…read morehome especially when it's in a setting as cool as the Moose & Goose Lounge located inside the Lake Lure 1927 Hotel. Finding seats at the bar for six is no easy task on a Friday night so whether the stars aligned or knowing Margaret the always friendly and sometimes professional bartender was the reason for it, it was the perfect place to enjoy a few amazing cocktails and a snack after driving the better half of the day. The lounge is easily accessible from the porch or the lobby of the hotel, I won't say it's small but it is cozy. There's an oddly shaped bar along the back wall and a few tables window side otherwise it's standing room only. Margaret runs the show and if you're looking for a little harmless bantering then she'll give you all you want, she'll also pour you legendary cocktails that will have you wanting just one more no matter how long you stay. After finishing my go to summertime drink Redbull & Tito's while the sun set behind the mountains it was time to test the bartender's skill set - nothing's better than a barely dirty Ketel One martini shaken cold, up with a few cheese stuffed olives, well she quickly corrected my description of a cocktail that I've been consuming for decades - I guess the correct term is a slutty martini verses the barely dirty terminology. I may have deserved that since I did ask her if she knew how to make a great martini (see attached photo) I think the photo proved she's made a few and the taste validated any doubt I may have had - it was delicious. There's lots to do in Lake Lure although it may appear otherwise, but one should experience this place if possible...
