All the staff has been professional. They are willing to listen to our concerns, explain the procedures, and give concise post-surgery care instructions. Yuck. The reception area looked like they threw a cheap desk and a few banquet chairs in an empty room. The receptionist was nice but was brand new and working alone. I was called into the exam room and suddenly I was startled by a computer that came on and a person started talking to me. I guess it was a fancy, cheap visit by a nurse, kind of like going through the McDonalds drive through and talking to someone in Bulgaria. Nothing against Physicians Assistance in general bu this person knew nothing with confidence. I was given a prescription for steroid cream. That flared everything up to the point where I was at the ER two days later and lost a digit. I had been to the doctor before and his treatment went well, but it's clear the practice turned into nothing but a money machine. I'll use the word "cheap" again. Dr. Shah solved a 6 month diagnostic odyssey (involving 2 health systems, multiple tests and 4 prescriptions) in 2 minutes. He is so knowledgeable, kind, patient and caring. I also appreciate a doctor's office that runs on time. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the country! read more

Well, thanks to Yelp, I managed to dodge a bullet on this one!! It appears all of the negative reviews are absolutely true. I called to make an appointment, and after jumping through all of the hoops and actually setting the appointment, I was told that when I got there they were going to need a credit card to "keep on file". I said I was absolutely not OK with that, and they said in that case, they would need a $250 deposit and keep it to cover any fees insurance didn't cover. I saw right away that this is a racket, since I have been to see three other dermatologists and none of them required money upfront. No thank you, I will take my business elsewhere! If I could give zero stars I would. I wish I had read these reviews before making my appointment. I spent 2 hours doing my due diligence ensuring I was covered in network with my insurance and with a specific provider at Clarus. I was told they bill per facility and not per provider and so my insurance would cover most aside from a $30 copay. My insurance covered $74 and my card was charged $298 by Clarus. I asked if the "receptionists and nurses" aka the outsourced workers on iPads at the front desk and in patient rooms worked here in MN and it was confirmed they are outsourced from other countries (countries in Asia based on the appearance of the iPad people). I'm pretty sure it is a HIPPA violation to have a person with a CAMERA turned on in a patient room who can watch you undress without your consent. There is no way to actually look up the names of these outsourced workers to see if they truly have medical professional licenses. I have to hand it to Clarus for cutting costs by probably paying these outsourced workers minimally and spending 10 min at most with patient to simply razor off 3 moles. I was even told by the assistant to say my moles were painful in order for them to be covered. It was cold and creepy having the majority of the "staff" be on iPads. As an RN who works for underserved populations I will be looking into this business more closely via my healthcare advocacy acquaintances. It is people who go into the healthcare profession SOLEY for money and not out of a caring nature that give us all a bad reputation. Do better. read more

This is the only medical facility I have ever witnessed that requires a credit card be put on file before you even get seen. Then, whatever insurance doesn't cover immediately gets charged to that card. I had a biopsy done for a concerning spot on my nose and got an acne treatment plan. I was out the door in less than 30 minutes. 15 minutes of that was the nurse intake questions. 2 weeks later I was charged almost $700 with no explanation of benefits, an itemized receipt or any notification. No doctor, only a Physician's Assistant. Just another glamour cosmetic shop for you to pay out the ass for unnecessary things. He did have a trainee with him today, so I hate to assume that is what made the difference, but I am willing to continue care there if the result is as it was today. read more

This place is a complete scam. Whoever I spoke to on the phone was ready to share my previous medical records without me verifying who I was, she also would not give me an estimate on pricing before coming in since she was "unsure". I asked if it would be expensive and asked again how much it would be when I got there which she said she didn't know. I scheduled the appointment, went in for a 3 minute consultation with a PA then was charged $250 for a consultation fee. (Would've been nice to at least know that fee before hand). All the PA told me was I'm just as well off taking care of it myself or I could have them do it for an extra $600 if they charged the insurance company or $400 cash. Which is also a huge scam in itself with insurance theft. The only reason I am posting this is in hopes someone sees this and saves their money, it's too late for me, but hopefully this reaches you and helps you make a better choice. read more

This dermatological practice in my opinion does not measure up to Best Medical Practice standards. It is the only medical office that in the last 2 years has not required its patients or staff to be masked. It is not complying with CDC or Mn Dept of Health recommendations as to masking or Covid precautions. During the winter of 2021 the MD wore a space helmet and now with the numbers nearly the same as last year, neither the staff or patients are even requested to wear masks. Although the staff appears to be competent, I do not think it is a safe place to receive treatment. To some degree they ignore the safety of their patients. read more

I had a cosmetic procedure at the otsego office with KATELYN KRUEGER, MPAS back in March 2022. She absolutely did a terrible job with the incision. Very sloppy. I ended up getting an infection with foul smelling pus on my leg. I spent 4 months dealing with a wound that wouldn't close. I even went to to the follow-up m, a month after my incision and they said it looked good and it really wasn't. I expressed how unhappy I was and they did nothing about it. She disregarded my concern. I wish I could have read the reviews before coming here. I guess I choose them bc of the convenience of being close to my home. My husband ended up cleaning my wound and he squeezed out with tweezers a long stitch that Katelyn left. it had been irritating my skin for weeks. Thankfully I am a healthy person and not diabetic so after my husband pulled it I healed. I tried calling the office so they could do this but they wanted to charge me for the visit to correct something they messed up on. Very Unprofessional. I paid $500 for an ugly incision that could have been smaller. read more

This business is a racket. They require a credit card before they will see you. Then they charge you for whatever your insurance doesn't cover, less than two weeks later. They don't inform you of how much that's going to be for and no exact date they're going to take it. We just had ours taken in the sum of $250. Then we ended up with 2 overdraft charges because we didn't have the money in the account. So this ended up costing us $322. I have never heard of another business that does business this way. I went here for skin lupus a few years back (2017) and had some pretty strange appointments. I got the feeling it was more of a cosmetic place than somewhere you go for a medical skin issue. The nursing staff had a hard time taking a blood sample. Once, they sent me down the street to a drug testing facility to get a blood sample taken, which was interesting. I stopped after a few appointments when it didn't seem to be helping and was too expensive. I was able to see a Rheumatologist through my insurance who was more knowledgeable about lupus and was able to effectively treat the skin rash. read more

I went here for one visit and NEVER AGAIN! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. My Dr was maybe with me for 5 minutes. Basically looked at my face from chair his chair (no additional lighting and no closer examining), gave me a new med & left. Didn't explain side effects or possible negative reactions with my current medications. I had sooo many questions related to the new med (to add to my current long list of medication), & he told me his assistant could answer them. His assistant knew very few answers. His overall response to all my questions, 'you'll be fine'. I had killer migraines from the medication he put me on. I waited 2 weeks and had to take off work, yet they refused to see me without a cash payment of $250.00. I just left this clinic that I have been going to on and off for two years. I have never had good service. Everything from not returning phone calls to not thoroughly explaining my treatment plan, problems refilling my medication in a timely manner. I had finally had enough and addressed my concerns about my care to the owner/provider, Dr. Shah. He said if I didn't like the service, I should go some where else and he walked out on me. I would definitely not recommend this clinic to anyone if you want a dermatologist who genuinely cares about their patients, will return phone calls, and address your medical needs in a timely fashion. Outrageous customer service. Came here twice (it's a drive for me) only to hear that they don't have me down for an appointment until a different time. TWICE! I didn't get a chance to see anyone. Will not be going back, even though I really need a dermatologist. I should have known when I saw that they book patients for one doctor every 10 minutes. The staff was great. Easy to schedule and everyone else was very nice. Dr. Shah was nice, but not thorough. I came to have moles checked that I was very concerned about. I had told the technician that I was trying to conceive. When Dr. Shah came in, he addressed my hyperhydrosis (sweating) and acne, that I had not mentioned I was at all concerned about, before the moles. He proceeded to tell me he was prescribing me two medications for the hyperhyrdrosis and acne, again that I am not concerned about, that had lots of other side affects that sound much worse than sweaty palms and breakouts after I eat a bunch of ice cream. I reminded him (thought they looked at all that history they ask for) that I was trying to conceive and asked if those medications were safe. Of course they were not at all safe for me to take. He rattled off a lot of medical jargon that I was not familiar with and was very nonchalant about it. He said I shouldn't be worried because I had no family history of skin cancer. If he had read my intake/history that the technician completed with me, he would have seen that my father and grandfather have both had skin cancer and my great grandfather died from it. When I mentioned this he just shrugged and said it's still probably not a concern. They said they would call with the results. I called a week later to see if they were ready, they said they would call when there were. I received my results in the mail the next day (which had been ready for days) and a call a day after that. I had to look up every word of the letter to figure it out. I have no idea what to do next, but it will start with finding a different dermatologist. If you want fewer wrinkles or longer eyelashes, this place is probably great. I did not have a good experience with a medical concern. Maybe this is how most dermatologists offices work, but maybe there needs to be different dermatologists for medical concerns and cosmetic concerns. read more

When have you ever walked out of a doctor's office and said "What a GREAT experience!?". I did that yesterday morning - swear to goodness. Clarus's office is easy to get to, brightly lit and pretty, and parking is a breeze. I was able to make an appointment less than a week beforehand. The desk staff and nurses were very nice, and very prompt. My appointment and my husband's were right on time. Dr. Shah was who I was especially impressed with though. He was down-to-earth and easy to talk to. He was very thorough but also had a minimalist approach to treatment which I really appreciate because I've been to dermatologists in the past who have hardly looked at me before they started writing many prescriptions - some of which I would find that couldn't afford only after leaving the pharmacy - and who have been really quick to remove moles that, even by their admission, are probably nothing to worry about. Photos of a couple of my moles were taken, and Dr. Shah said that we should check back in in a few months to see if they've changed at all before we worry about them. Great. He also put me on a prescription for acne that I'm very excited about. In his words: "it's cheap, safe, and I'd put my wife on it before I'd put her on the other stuff you've been taking". Additionally, for my follow-up visit, the clinic offers virtual visits for $35 to save me the time and money of returning to the clinic. And, I was suggested to buy a body wash and a sunscreen and felt hesitant until I saw that the prices are posted so that it's clear what you're paying beforehand and very very reasonable. I left feeling very comfortable that my handful of skin concerns were dealt with in a thoughtful, thorough manner - not overly medicated or treated. In the 36 hours since my appointment I've recommended Clarus to an almost silly amount of people. I was that impressed! read more

I went here about 3 or so years ago to have a certain treatment done. The first time around, I thought that Dr. Shah was nice enough and I didn't feel that he rushed seeing me. That was good. However, the next time around wasn't so great. I came back a few months later to have a 2nd treatment done, and he was nothing but condescending to me the entire time. The first treatment I had didn't really do much for me and and as I was expressing this to him, he pretty much shrugged it off and became very rude towards me. I left so upset that I came here to write a review (at least 3 years ago), and after writing it, I received a letter in the mail from his office asking me not to return. I think I gave enough details to where he was able to identify me. I think that's a coward move for one, and I wouldn't have gone back anyhow. I'm just letting others know this was my particular experience. I think the most important thing to look for in a doctor/derm is that you feel 100% comfortable with them and that you think you are being treated with kindness...I did not get that from him. read more

I was visiting the Minneapolis area and was able to make a same day appointment with Dr. Shah to see my 2 year old who had suffered from a dog bite on her cheek. My main concern was having this heal with minimal scarring which is why I did not go to urgent care or the emergency room. I also did not want to see a Plastic Surgeon because my 2 year old didn't need cosmetic surgery- she needed expert repair of a skin wound so it made sense to see a dermatologic surgeon. We knew that since Dr. Shah trained at Mayo he would provide excellent care. Check in was super easy and fast. The paperwork was minimal and very clear. We waited for about 45 seconds and then saw Dr. Shah. His care was excellent and we were able to return to our vacation in no time. read more

Went here awhile back for folliculitis on my legs. I had been dealing with it for years and what solved the problem was ME - another year later, Googling folliculitis and switching to Dial Antibacterial bar soap. Such a simple fix and they acted like they didn't have any "active" zones they could send to the lab etc. I literally went in for the simplest of problems and they did nothing to solve it except tell me to change my razors frequently. I did however get an à la carte menu of $80 sunscreens thrown in my face at the end of my appointment - thanks a lot. What a rip off. Looking back, I cannot believe I wasted my time and money going to this place. Can't imagine how they handle patients experiencing anything more serious. My family has also had bad experiences at this place. Once the Dr. swore at my dad prompting us to report him to the medical board, and then my mom had something prescribed to her that she later found out at another, reputable dermatologist, was completely unnecessary because the best fix for what she was experiencing wasn't a pricey prescription - it was actually Vaseline. I went to Clarus Dermatology because it was close to where I live and my other dermatologist was completely booked out for over a month. Worst decision I've ever made. First, the nurse was rude to me when I was telling her what I was being seen for. She was interrupting me and not letting me finish before asking the next question. Then, when the physician came in, she said "I'm tired and not thinking straight because I didn't have my lunch yet". I was prescribed a strong cream and wasn't told any of the possible side effects or that I was supposed to test it on a small spot on my skin before applying it to larger areas. I found out the cream was 3x the strength that other dermatologists recommend. I ended up with a terrible allergic reaction. I have a high pain tolerance, but I was so itchy that I was crying in pain and couldn't sleep. I messaged them saying what was going on and they didn't respond until 4 days later, not even apologizing for what had happened. I had luckily seen another, reputable dermatologist by then and was prescribed a month worth of steroids because of how bad the allergic reaction was. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more

Wonderful experience! Dr. Shah was able to remove an unsightly brown spot on my face that several other physicians were unable to. His cosmetic results are phenomenal. He has a very friendly, down-to-earth demeanor, and his paramedical staff were very helpful. He also was running on time. I saw Dr. Shah for some dermatology concerns and he was really rude to me. I am being treated by another specialist for Lyme Disease and most people who know a little about Lyme know that there are some major controversies in the way in which to treat Lyme. I completely understand and accept that. However, Dr. Shah came in the room with guns drawn saying in an abrupt manner that there is no such thing as long-term Lyme or needing to be treated long-term for it. I let him know that I understand that there are different perspectives on it, but he remained argumentative and even went so far as to put down my other doctor. I said that she used to work at Mayo and that is when he said, "well, there's a reason she's no longer at Mayo" - he hardly let me get in to say that she had left Mayo to start her own practice in integrative medicine. I have had another doctor express their concern over long-term use of antibiotics for Lyme, but she did so in a caring, respectful manner and was able to give sound reason to her concerns. It gave me something to think about and I appreciated her input. There are always going to be doctors who disagree on treatment plans, but that shouldn't ever affect the way a patient is talked to or respected. And I find it also interesting that he is so certain about a disease that isn't even in his area of expertise. I will not be seeing Dr. Shah again and will let my referring doctor know about his treatment towards me. read more

This Clinic is a TOP NOTCH Dermatology Center for skin care. I was recommended to this Clinic and DR. Shah through my Personal Physician. There was a spot on my face that wasn't healing. I was a little nervous about it going in but the atmosphere of the Staff, Nurses and DR Shah was refreshing. The spot was removed (Skin Cancer). I was very surprised what it was and all though after seeing it when finished, I was shocked at how much was removed. Thanks to DR Shah with his Professional Knowledge,Talents, Experiences and his Nurses it healed with no problems and after a year you can hardly see the surgery done. I did a follow up a year later. He visually checked my skin out, no skin cancer but saw a Mole which we decided to have sampled. Its truly understandable how this Clinic, Doctors, Nurses and Staff are rated highly in Minnesota. read more

I would not recommend going to Clarus Dermatology for Ultrashape or VelaShape. Working with them was more a trial and error process for me. They give you great expections then when is doesn't go as expected Dr Shah is unavailable to discuss the process with you. I even tried to talk to him a year after they tried to do the procedure and I still could not get to talk to him. Very frustrating and a waste of my money. It is the first time in my life I was not unable to talk to my Dr about the results of a procure and what to do next.
