    a view of the kitchen

Pretty bad, they even managed to screw up French fries. They put their precooked burgers in dirty water to keep them hot until ordered.

    Pizza and pasta

Waited 15 mins for a burger only for them to finish, put it in a box and promptly set off the fire alarm. Even though I was about to be handed my food I was forced to leave the building. When I came bag they handed me the now cold burger and said I had to wait 30 mins for a fresh one. I feel highly discriminated against because they instantly there on new pasta for my friend. They will definitely hear about this.

Rough selection of food, super greasy, slow service, over priced, fails to make Clarkson students feel at home.

My husband and I met up with one of my Yelp friends visiting Ottawa from Toronto along with his…read morewife and son for dinner at Queen Street Fare. Overall, I liked the look and feel of the food hall. It is a bit on the smaller side with just 7 vendors, but it's still cool. I like that there is a good mix of different types of foods offered there. The vendors are Sen Kitchen (Pan Asian), Green Rebel (soup, sandwiches, and salads), Mercadito (Mexican), Fiazza (pizza), Capitol Burger (burgers and fries), Bar Robo (cafe) and Q Bar (serves alcoholic beverages). They also have a water station where you can help yourself to free water. There is a lot of seating with a mix of large communal tables, some booths/half booths, and smaller tables. Vendors are staggered throughout the space and while the official name of each vendor is in the same uniform font, inside each kiosk each vendor is able to express their own style. So it does look like a collection of unique businesses. I mention this because I was recently at the Time Out Market in Montreal and all the vendors looked exactly the same and they were all next to each other in a big circle. I did not like that layout or aesthetics at all. I do like the layout of Queen Street Fare. I had the Chicken Pad Thai at Sen Kitchen ($12). I thought it was unremarkable. My husband had the Cubano Sandwich at Mercadito ($13), he enjoyed it. I had some of the potatoes that his meal came with and I liked them. They were crispy with nice seasonings. My Yelp friend had a chicken sandwich at Green Rebel. It was huge and he said it was very filling. His wife and son shared a pizza from Fiazza and they seemed to enjoy it. His wife also got a pho broth soup from Sen Kitchen. It appeared to be just broth with bean sprouts, no noodles nor meat. She did not say anything about the broth, so I'm assuming it was unremarkable. I think the food hall as a whole is neat with a chill environment. I think it would benefit from a dessert vendor, like a place that sold gelato or ice cream, or maybe donuts or cakes. Anyway, I'm glad Ottawa has a food hall, even though it's a bit small ;)

It's actually quite large compared to most eateries in industrial parks which are usually mostly for takeout. There is a lot of seating and if you eat in they use real china and cutlery, which I like. I got the soup and sandwich special ($8.25). They had 3 soups of the day and I chose the beef, chicken and barley. For my sandwich I chose oven roasted turkey on white (bread options included whole wheat and rye as well). I got my bread toasted, and had lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and mustard on it. I was over the moon that I had the option of real turkey instead of deli meat turkey. The sandwich was very tasty. I mean it was something that I can assemble myself at home, but really only after Thanksgiving or Christmas, because I don't usually have turkey leftovers at home, lol. The soup was unique though. It definitely tasted homemade. It had chicken, beef, mushrooms, barley, onions, and a bunch of different root vegetables. I enjoyed it a lot. I particularly liked that it was so thermodynamically hot! I love my soups super hot. It stayed hot until my last spoonful. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were patient and listed off all my sandwich options while I decided what I wanted. They seemed to all get along too, which was nice to see. It's cafeteria style there. You order at the counter, they pass you your food, then you pay the cashier, and seat yourself with your food wherever you want. They have daily specials written on the board. I think they always have fish and chips on Fridays, and I think that Chicken Noodle Soup is always a soup option. Prices are quite reasonable. The specials are $10.95 or less. There is free parking in the attached lot. They're only open 8am-2pm on weekdays and are closed on weekends, so I think this kind of limits their potential customer pool. However, if you are in the area during their opening hours and want some food, they are worth checking out.

In addition to sandwiches, baked goods, and regular cafeteria items, they also have hot Asian meals (General Tao Chicken, Crispy Pork, Kung Po Shrimp, etc.). So anyone who knows me, knows I love hidden gems. I love discovering eateries tucked away in industrial parks, office buildings, etc. Minda Cafe is both in an industrial area and in an office building. They are only open Monday through Friday 8am-4pm, so I'm only able to go on a day off work. Guess where this girl went on her staycation? Lol. I got the large hot meal ($9.09). Options change daily and are more or less on a weekly rotation. I got to choose 2 proteins and I got the Thai Chicken and Crispy Pork. I got to choose noodles, rice or pasta. I got the noodles. And I also received vegetables with the meal. The noodles and pork were so greasy, but in that tasty North American Chinese Food kind of way, lolz. The Thai Chicken and vegetables were less greasy and I did enjoy those more. The pork was indeed crispy. It almost tasted like chicharrones, except spicy. The noodles were a bit al dente and surprisingly not salty despite their dark colour. I thought it was drenched in soy sauce due to the colour, but it wasn't, it was just really dark. The vegetables were zucchini, cauliflower, carrots, onions and bell peppers, and they were nicely al dente too. The Thai Chicken was my favourite. Lots of lean chicken breast meat with bell peppers. The flavour was mild. Such a great deal for under $10. Quality is better than food court places like Manchu Wok, Shanghai 360, etc. Since my husband had to go into work that day and the next, I was on my own at the visit, but I bought him a little lunch combo to bring for lunch the next day. It was a cute tray with a cold cut wrap, a small chickpea salad, a thick piece of cheese and some crudites. All for only $5.49. Wow, what a great deal. He had it the next day and enjoyed it. They had lots of grab and go items. Different sandwiches, wraps, salads and desserts too. The husband and wife running the show are friendly. There's some utilitarian seating inside the cafe if you want to eat in. There are benches outside of the building too if you want to eat outside. The food is excellent for an office building cafeteria and prices can't be beat. Cash or debit only. No credit cards. I went back a few weeks later on a day off to grab some combos for my parents. I got a Crispy Chicken and Chipotle Chicken with fried noodles and vegetables, and a Teriyaki Pork and Kung Po Shrimp with Singapore Noodles and vegetables. My parents loved their meals, especially my dad. He couldn't get enough of those fried noodles. My mom really enjoyed the Crispy Chicken. The parking situation is bad though if you don't already work in the building or nearby. There's very limited visitor parking at the front of the building (not where the entrance to the cafe is) which is often full. At the back of the building, where the entrance to the cafe is, it is reserved parking for building employees only. And there's no street parking nearby :( (99)

They have grab and go items like prepacked sandwiches, salads and desserts squares, but they also have hot lunches, hot breakfasts and sandwiches made to order. On our first visit, my husband and I had lunch there. I got the Spicy Beef Ramen ($12) and my husband had the chicken wrap ($8.75). The ramen was pretty good. The menu said it was beef sirloin with an egg and vegetables, but I got beef shank and vegetables, but no egg :( I was also charged $12 but now that I'm looking at the pictures of the menu that I took, I'm seeing the price is $9.99 :( Nonetheless, it was tasty and had a fair amount of beef shank slices. I'm not a fan of beef shank as it's a fattier cut with tendon-y parts, lol. But admittedly, it's a more flavourful cut, and when cooked properly, which it was, is very tender. The ramen was chewy and springy and the broth was indeed spicy. The vegetables included carrots, onions, cauliflower, broccoli and mushrooms. I missed not having an egg though :( However, it was still tasty and I enjoyed it. It was piping hot too. My husband had some and he also enjoyed it. My husband liked his wrap. I had a bite and it was good. It had a nice spicy sauce that gave it a kick. It had chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. On our second visit, I grabbed 2 General Tao Chicken bowls ($12 each) to go and we ate them at home. The chicken was lean chicken breast, which I loved. The batter was not excessive, which I appreciated, but it wasn't crispy. The sauce was a bit sweet, a bit spicy and a bit tangy. The only vegetables it came with was onions. I would have liked some bell peppers or broccoli. It was good and comparable to fast food General Tao Chicken. It's premade and not fried to order, which is great in that it's quick, but the outside is not crispy nor crunchy. Still good though. Service was friendly. Staff answered all my questions with patience and were diligent when I mentioned my food allergies. They only take cash or debit. No credit. There is seating in front of the cafe in the atrium of the office building. It's very pretty and clean. I love these types of independently owned office building cafeterias. We walked over, but there is a parking lot in the business complex. However, I think it's paid parking only ($2 per 30 minutes, maximum of $12 a day). There might be free visitor spots but I can't say for certain (sorry, it was snowing and hard to see). There is free street parking along the residential streets north of Carling Ave. They are open to the public, so not limited to those working or doing business in the building.

I visited three times during my stay in Ottawa, and one morning, only three types of scones were available -- not sure if that happens often. While the lack of variety was disappointing, it was alright, as all the scones were still delicious. Whether you get the sconewitch or just a scone + jam, all good choices. The date and fennel one in particular was a less common flavour that I enjoyed. Soft gooey date chunks and fennel here and there providing a good contrast of textures and tastes. Spacious, well-lit, comfortable space with plenty of seating. I'd love to come back and try all the different things on the menu.

I've been to a 3 Brasseurs before, and I knew what I was getting myself into. Think chain restaurant, aka sysco in terms of food. It's honestly not the best food, but small kids and 6 dollar kids menu, I mean, you can't beat that on Sparks. It was hot out and I was feeling a tad light headed and starving, so I wanted something starchy and heavy, so I ordered the poutine. It was basically their standard shoe string fries (most likely frozen from a bag and not cut in house) topped with a light gravy and cheese curds! I mean at least they used curds right? It was probably the top 3 more laughable poutines that I have had, but still edible. The hubby ordered some sausage and sauerkraut dish. I ate a lot of his sauerkraut. It was good. Kids meals were decent, but again served with the shoe string fries that the kids barely touched. Actually they barely finished their meals (one mac and cheese bites the other chicken fingers) It did come with a drink and dessert though. The highlight was the giant pretzel that we shared at the table. I'd recommend that. It was delicious and a show stopper, especially with the mustard dipping sauce. We sat on the patio which was pretty quiet on a Sunday. Restaurant inside was empty. I did use their bathroom on the second floor. It was clean, but smelled of urine. The restaurant inside had some wear and tear and a strange smell as well. Glassware served was dirty but I am sure if I brought it up it would be rectified. I might go back for the pretzel and some apps and sit on the patio for some cheap eats, but I am in no rush.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is always friendly and attentive, and the team makes you feel right at home. I usually grab a seat at the bar, where the bartenders are not only skilled but genuinely welcoming--making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. Drinks are on point, and the food always hits the mark--served quickly, hot, and full of flavour. The house beers are well-crafted, and the menu offers solid pub fare with a few nice surprises. That said, I'm giving it a strong 4 stars. While the experience is reliably good, there's still a little room for improvement--whether it's adding a few more food options, rotating seasonal specials more frequently, or enhancing the vibe with a touch more variety. Still, whether you're in for a casual pint or a satisfying meal, 3 Brasseurs gets it right more often than not. A dependable go-to I'm happy to recommend.
