Issue 1: Preemptive Overcharging During my initial eye exam and contact lens fitting, the staff overcharged my credit card by $40 above my insurance copay ($70). When I questioned it on the spot, they claimed they "preemptively" charge extra in case insurance denies a claim. After I insisted my maximum copay was $70, they agreed to a refund. However, they claimed that because it was a Saturday, they would process the refund during the work week. Instead of the promised refund, they ultimately forced a store credit on me. Issue 2: Surprise Billing I scheduled a follow-up appointment because my trial lenses were blurry, and I confirmed over the phone that this recheck would be free of charge. During the exam, the doctor asked a few questions about dry eyes as it could be the reason for the ill-fitting lens and offered to recommend drops. Later, I discovered they billed me for a separate "dry eye consultation." I was not informed that this would be the case or made aware of the relevant charges. Had they been transparent, I could have had the opportunity to accept or decline. When I disputed the bill, they claimed they had to charge me because I did not have medical insurance on file, which misses the point entirely. My main objection was that I had not been properly informed beforehand. They refused to remove the charge and kept my previous $40 credit to cover it. In my opinion, this office engages in deceptive billing practices by adding hidden fees without clear patient consent. I believe converting a free follow-up into an unapproved medical charge is a breach of professional and ethical standards. I scheduled and arrived for a standard, complimentary contact lens recheck. An eye examination is a necessary part of that specific service. I was never told that the nature of my visit had changed from a free recheck to a billable medical consultation, nor was I informed of any additional fees. Because I was not given the opportunity to consent to these charges, I dispute the examination fee and request a full refund.

They also have a variety of frames to choose from. However, I was there for the secret goods: the vintage frames. I inquired with the clerk, who pulled out a few small boxes from under the counter. While the vintage selection was small, they had both male and female frames. New styles come in as often as estate sales happen. I picked out a pair of cat-eye wingtips and had them fitted with my prescription for under $80. My only complaint is that women had smaller heads back in the 50's, so the frames are a bit small, even after getting fitted. These are my special occasion glasses, so if you're considering a pair for every day use, make sure they fit comfortably. Cost for frame & prescription lenses: Under $100.

They are not the list of preferred providers for my insurance, but I still go here. I'd rather pay full price here than go to the local "discount store" and settle for poor quality and service.

Every person I interacted with was amazing!…read more Nina was the person who first brought me back and went over my history, reason for the visit, etc. She took my blood pressure and blood draws. She was so personable and warm; she immediately made me feel at ease. At my oncologist's office, I usually get a large bruise where the blood is drawn, but Nina withdrew three vials so expertly that there wasn't even a mark when she was done. As we talked, I found out she is currently in nursing school while working at Planned Parenthood. This woman is a keeper! I hope she comes back to work for Planned Parenthood when she completes her degree next May. She will continue to be an invaluable asset. Shelby, a nurse practitioner, provided my care, and she was stellar in every way! She is warm, kind and compassionate and you immediately feel that. Those qualities are essential to an honest discussion with my caregiver and Shelby made that easy. Her competence was obvious throughout our discussion, the exam, and the recommendations she made. Very importantly, Shelby listens without judgment. When my visit was over, I knew that from now on, Planned Parenthood would be the source of my yearly exams and that I would always be in the best of hands. I would be thrilled to get to see Shelby again. I recommend Planned Parenthood and their incredible staff without reservation.
