My friend wanted to come here because she bought her favourite pair of earrings here yeears ago...so we came in for a bit of a mooch. This place is full of interesting jewellery- some of it was gorgeous/ some of it was not really to my taste. BUT Jewellery is always a very personal thing to choose - so maybe other yelpers'd like the things I cringed at. There was also a large selection of different minerals and gemstones for sale...so this place would make any collector of stones happy. I bought a couple of pairs of pearl earrings with Stirling silver backs (for £6 each!!) and left very happy.

My question should have been met with a straightforward answer. Instead the member of staff proceded to make some condescending implications about my item in the most passive-agressive manner. My advice would be to avoid this business. I suspect that the abundant glowing 5-star reviews on Google (nearly no 4-star reviews or below) are either incentivised or fake.

We collected the ring and it was all fine. A few weeks later the mark on rim looked as though it had come back but I couldnt remember knocking it at all, in fact I was very careful. We contacted the jewellery shop again but they argued and said I'd done it so we insisted they have a look and they sent it off the the manufacturuer who also thought we'd done it although I was convinced the mark looked exactly as it had done before. They fixed it as a gesture of goodwill. We collected the ring and then a day later the diamond fell out - thankfully while we were in a restaurant and someone in our group found it on the table so clearly not man-handled as it happened at the dinner table. We returned the ring and the diamond and got a full refund although no apology! I will never shop there again. Rubbish customer service.

I remember walking past it as a…read morechild and always wanting to look in the windows at the beautiful pieces, and now as an adult I still can't resist stopping to stare in at all the beautiful things on display. Aurum is a working goldsmiths, with a little workshop out the back where they make everything, a fact which instantly makes them ten-times more appealing than the brightly lit chain jewellers you will find in the town centre, where the staff are just sales machines, rather than experts. At Aurum, they are on intimate terms with metal and precious stones, and you can go in and buy something gorgeous off the shelf, get them to remodel something you already have, or get something bespoke made, and they will be knowledgeable and helpful throughout. I've got some Aurum bits which I was given for my 18th birthday, and they are still going strong (I won't tell you exactly how many years later), my Dad has a pair of their frog cufflinks, which are still his favourites after 15 years of wearing them, and my brother has bought all manner of things from there for his wife - from those first teenage presents, to the ring he gave her on their wedding day.
