The service is similar to that provided in conference hotels in the nation's cities. Service is not always first rate, but these employees do their best. Menus and kitchen are first rate. In February, we attended the Lincoln Society of Dayton, the Sons of American Revolution, and the Sons of Union Veterans presidential birthday banquets. Different menus and different service offered excellent experiences. A primary factor is abundant on-site parking. We prefer the buffets; although, we also attended plated service. The plated service is slow. Given nearly 50 years with great experiences at this venue, we highly recommend.

After reading about parking, I arrived a little bit early and there were lots of free parking which was a very, very short walk away from the entrance so it all felt very safe and pleasant. The property is kept up well and it looked like there were plenty of nice places for the wedding party to take their photos. The barn where the reception was held was very nice and clean. My only complaint would be about the restroom situation. The bathrooms are built into the barn much like a horses stall would be? There were two toilets in the women's restroom -- both of which had curtains as the doors. Mainly problematic because they were semi see through, and it was impossible to knock / see if someone was already in there. I'd be perfect if they could put in a more solid door of sorts!

We visited a few times during our stay and enjoyed everything from waffles and burritos for breakfast, to sushi for lunch, and even after dinner draft beers. Wish we could have tried the salads, burgers, and pizza! We appreciated that they were open almost all day (8AM-12AM on Saturdays). Note that they are CLOSED Sunday which is kind of sad if you're wanting coffee or brunch. We appreciated that they were kid-friendly, as well. This makes a stay in Downtown Springfield legitimately appealing and it's a refreshing place to visit and mingle while supporting small businesses after this past year.

It's intimate and charming and was everything I was looking for! The staff is very friendly and I had a good experience with them up to the week of my wedding. The event coordinator, Ann, had solicited her services as a wedding planner when we booked the venue. She is pleasant and sweet, but unorganized and this became very apparent the week before our wedding. We arrived at the Birch House the day before to start decorations and my family was asked to set up tables and chairs and clean bird feces off of them. It seemed unorganized and unprofessional to ask for my family to be cleaning bird feces off of everything... especially since this can be a major source of spreading disease AND that is a venue responsibility. My father-in-law showed up the next morning a couple of hours before the wedding and the chairs were still dirty with bird feces in the ceremony area and wouldn't have been clean by the time guests arrived for the wedding if he hadn't spent an hour and a half cleaning them. Ann said she would also be there the entire time to help with transitioning guests, caterers and I shouldn't stress about anything, but I had to try to find them multiple times to help. Overall, it would have been a better experience if I had not paid for her to help plan it because I could have ensured things didn't fall apart the week before the wedding. She mixed up our tent rentals, booking reservations, there was no lighting in the tent whatsoever for my wedding ceremony (which caused nobody to get a good picture of us being married and this is something she should have addressed prior as something we needed and we would have been happy to pay the additional expense), and she should have had staff available to clean the tables and chairs. There was no flow between the ceremony, serving food, cake cutting, etc. When she solicited her services as a wedding planner (as a side job to being the event coordinator for Glen Helen), she assured us that she would take the stress off of us and make things go smoothly.... I felt like I had to do majority of the work I asked her to do and the things I let her book were all wrong. I would not recommend using her as a wedding planner if you book anything at Glen Helen. Aside from that, it's an absolutely stunning venue that provides an intimate setting to share your wonderful day with family and friends.
