Everything looked clean and the bathroom was free of mold and grime. The checkin was easy and friendly. The room was a little warm and I couldn't get the thermostat to cool it down much. It was a hot summer in July so I had hoped for a much cooler room. Breakfast wasn't great, so I'm not sure I'd like staying here again for the price. Cheap paper plates kind of says it all to me. There are much better places in the Marriott brand.

The rooms are big and clean an ours included a full size refrigerator and a mini oven and mini dish washer. The bathroom was clean but the shower heads are a little low for a 6' or taller person. The bedding smelled dirty. May have been a comforter that has not been cleaned in a while but I couldn't tell. Either way, it was not pleasant. The noise from the interstate also flows through the walls too well and can be loud during high travel times.

When I questioned it, the clerk became offended and angry. She said the that the information seen and told to me was wrong. I questioned her about how that could be. She said 'FINE, I'LL PAY THE 430 FOR YOU!!' I reminded her that I was willing to pay the $20 as clearly stated. Then she called me 'HON'. Not the nice and charming 'Hon" of the South. It was the snarky 'HON' that says "I'M IN CHARGE HERE!' . . .and you are Not." Then she called an employee from the back to bring her wallet. She opened it like she was going to pay for it. I have no idea if she did or not. I apologized for any misunderstanding and suggested we start over. She said "IT'S DONE!" I thought to myself Y I K E S!....we are going to get a really nasty room . . . and I was right! * We had to keep opening the toilet lid to flush. I finally figured out how to fix it by sticking my hand in the tank and moving the chain to a different location on the arm and reclipping it. Yuck!! Is that my job as your paying guest? * Toilet paper holder is not secured to the wall * The shower head is not fully operational. We know how to use the lever to change the spray. It didn't work. The pipe from the wall looked like it was going to fall on our heads * The hand sanitizer in the lobby does not work These are not remodeling issues. They are maintenance. But first you must care. Fancy chairs in the lobby do not make up for a room with these problems. Pluses: Good mattress and bed linens and decent towels. Yep . . .that's the only plus I can give you. The only negatives I have are both in the bathroom - - I don't like the Dove body wash (it leaves a greasy feeling because it seem to rinse off), - and, the bath towels are not soft (it feels like trying to dry off with a piece of carpet.) The air conditioning got the room nice and cold. The shower had good pressure and got as hot as we would have wanted. The toilet and shower are in a room with a door separate from the vanity/sink area. Coffee maker makes single cups of coffee and uses coffee pod discs (not kcups). Parking is free and the price was less than the other hotels in walking distance. We would happily stay here again if passing through Richmond.

While you can walk to everything that's downtown (e.g., government offices, restaurants, USPS, a comfortable library), the place is, therefore, downtown as well--not bucolic.

The room was also as crusty as my eyes after not sleeping all night. Legend has it that the bathroom door hasn't been able to lock properly since the Declaration of Independence was signed. The air conditioning worked fabulous, though. The lady at the counter was friendly and accommodating despite us interrupting her dinner. We also managed to make time for breakfast the next morning, stuffing our sweaty faces with fluffy waffles and Bold Coffee. Plenty of access to 110V to charge the phones, but trouble with their internet, typical for these places. Of our last 10 roadside motels, this would rank about 4, so nothing real bad, just that I expected more from this chain.

The staff was still very nice and hospitable, but the room itself was outdated and appeared very dirty. The breakfast was basic with very limited options, but I didn't expect gourmet at this price range. I don't think I would stay here again unless I'm desperate.
