Everything looked clean and the bathroom was free of mold and grime. The checkin was easy and friendly. The room was a little warm and I couldn't get the thermostat to cool it down much. It was a hot summer in July so I had hoped for a much cooler room. Breakfast wasn't great, so I'm not sure I'd like staying here again for the price. Cheap paper plates kind of says it all to me. There are much better places in the Marriott brand.

The bedding smelled dirty. May have been a comforter that has not been cleaned in a while but I couldn't tell. Either way, it was not pleasant. The noise from the interstate also flows through the walls too well and can be loud during high travel times.

The air conditioning got the room nice and cold. The shower had good pressure and got as hot as we would have wanted. The toilet and shower are in a room with a door separate from the vanity/sink area. Coffee maker makes single cups of coffee and uses coffee pod discs (not kcups). Parking is free and the price was less than the other hotels in walking distance. We would happily stay here again if passing through Richmond.

While you can walk to everything that's downtown (e.g., government offices, restaurants, USPS, a comfortable library), the place is, therefore, downtown as well--not bucolic.

However, the mattress I was resting my nonexistent body mass on wouldn't let me experience that same result. Between that and a hillbilly couple arguing outside at 1:17 a.m., I was cooked. The room was also as crusty as my eyes after not sleeping all night. Legend has it that the bathroom door hasn't been able to lock properly since the Declaration of Independence was signed. The air conditioning worked fabulous, though. The lady at the counter was friendly and accommodating despite us interrupting her dinner. We also managed to make time for breakfast the next morning, stuffing our sweaty faces with fluffy waffles and Bold Coffee. Outdoor garbage needed emptying (stunk horribly). Breakfast had no protein, which is probably the reason for the grouchy review, lol! The outdoor pool was warm and clean...very nice evening swim. Plenty of access to 110V to charge the phones, but trouble with their internet, typical for these places. Of our last 10 roadside motels, this would rank about 4, so nothing real bad, just that I expected more from this chain.

The staff was still very nice and hospitable, but the room itself was outdated and appeared very dirty. The breakfast was basic with very limited options, but I didn't expect gourmet at this price range. I don't think I would stay here again unless I'm desperate.
