This is a nice fancy hotel built in the original post office building. A touch of traditional architecture with modern furnishings inside. Centrally located within walking distance to train station and great restaurants including their very own Michelin starred restaurant Vra (which I have yet to try but will upon next visit). Front desk and hosts at Vra were super helpful and friendly. Great breakfast buffet with many choices and options. Free flowing coffee machines for nice fika anytime. read more

On our first night in Sweden we were put up at this hotel by Volvo and were very impressed with the quality and comfort of the hotel as well as its amenities. We loved the beautiful lobby with the fluorescent lighting behind the crystal reception desk and the modern design of the entrance hall. The modern edgy design with bold dark colors mixed with vibrant metals is a theme throughout the hotel and created a cohesive ambiance. Our checkin (as well as checkout) was easy and everyone we interacted with was pleasant. Our room was comfortable with soft clean linens and floofy pillows. The bathroom was updated with modern tile and a nice shower and separate tub. We stayed plenty warm on this very cold February night and were very pleased with the room in general. The stunning rooftop heated pool was open even though we were there in February and it was pretty warm except for the chilling wind that finally drove us out and into the comfort of our heated shower in our room. The food here was something else. We enjoyed the massive breakfast buffet as well as our dinner at their restaurant Norda. The quality of ingredients as well as the presentations were memorable. Stayed here two nights doing a Volvo Overseas delivery. The room they had us in was a little hard to get to since the space is huge! It was also by the street so it was a little loud at night. It was a corner which was nice since it only had one shared wall space. The hotel is centrally located in Gothenburg, and very easy to get your car called in the valet. 5 stars for the breakfast buffet. It is beyond words; three rows of EVERYTHING you can ask for. Seriously, the choices are staggering. The bread area alone is surreal. Slice your own, maybe 10 kinds PLUS sweet breads and treats. Amazing breakfast experience. Something to mention, windows do not open here. I love fresh air so was super disappointed. Bedding is ultra amazing and comfy. Lots of thirsty towels and nice apothecaries. The coffee machine was nice as well. AC was cold, just the way I like it at night. The pool area could be nice but it was Mid Summer Weekend so the place was filled with children. No room for adults but the kids were loving it. I had a few issues at check in. I had asked for early check in and was prepared to pay as I arrived 9 AM from an international flight. I waited until 2:30 PM to get in to my room and the room offered was an inner room with no windows in the bedrooms and smaller windows facing an inside courtyard. These windows did not open but even if they did, they would not have allowed for any air. The room was a cave. I was moved to another room. What also concerned me was the unclean halls and public areas. Things are either dirty or seriously worn. The hotel needs a make over. I checked in here over new year's eve, needing to take a super early train to a flight the following day. I've never had as loud booming music playing all night at a hotel, and am writing this at 2:30am, no ear plugs in the world cutting out the 75 dB(A) base lines (as measured by the Noise Exposure app on an iPhone 6s). On this date, at least, this place is first a party event site, and only incidentally also a hotel. Less aggravating, but maybe not a great start: I got my room on the sixth floor, and was met by a bunch of mostly empty coke bottles and beer cans on the table, and an otherwise vacated but not-cleaned room, so I went down to the reception and asked if I got the wrong room, or just a cleaning slip. Something had seemingly gone wrong with cleaning, and being happy with the room otherwise, I said I didn't mind if they did it now, as the hotel was mostly booked. They offered me 250 SEK of drink / restaurant vouchers while I waited, and I took a shrimp sandwich in the bar before returning to ask when I might get my room back. It turned out they now had dug up an empty and cleaned room on the third floor, and mistaken my luggage for a previous guest's, and left the first room untouched, until they'd figured out the situation (my fault for not mentioning I'd left my fairly heavy gear there when coming down to check). I got the new room, the old key, fetched and moved my things to the new room, left the old key at the desk, and went to bed. Beside the base cutting through the very foundation of the building, making sleep a distant dream, the standard of everything is excellent. Comfy sheets, big and small pillows, a well lit bathroom with both bright flood lighting and dimmable ceiling lights, a shower, water closet, and functional black-out curtains that cut out almost all outside light. Standard breakfast opens at eight, but when I mentioned I'd be on a train before seven, they also mentioned serving early breakfast over behind the Christmas tree down the hall from 4am. I kind of want to find this a good hotel, but wish I'd have had some warning that it wasn't really acting as a hotel on the night I booked, so I'd have been able to book a proper hotel for the night elsewhere. read more

I was quite pleased with our hotel choice! I must say I was impressed by the building and what they had done with it. I also liked the idea that as it was the old post building they used that in the main hall decoration . The entrance is quite impressive and the bar and restaurant areas are quite nice. When the weather is good the sun shines on the front of the hotel which has lots of tables to sit at, making it a very attractive place to be. In fact it was full of people! The rooms are clean but quite average. The breakfast had a large variety of everything but I thought it was quite messy. There was not much space so we had to hunt for a fable for a while. All in all I was happy with out hotel choice which was also very centrally located. read more

Enjoyed. Very comfortable room, did not have usb plugs for charging. Room had minibar, in room safe, nice toiletries. Bathroom had tub and shower which was very nice. Bed linens were very smooth. Was quiet and slept well. The lobby area is very pretty and breakfast buffet was massive. The evening meal that was included had vegetarian. It's in a good city center location. I didn't drive, I think the parking is all valet. Old building, no air conditioning I don't think, but in May I didn't need it. read more

Review #1000; how time flies.... Anyway; this review is strictly for the architecture, the lobby and the bar. The hotel is located on one side of the large plaza behind the train station, and it was formerly the main post office. The exterior is lovely and very grand. The lobby is very attractive, as is the bar. We had a drink in the bar in the late afternoon yesterday (non-alcoholic, because it takes me practically an entire evening to consume even a glass of wine) and we loved the bar; the architecture is such that it's full of books (some of which are antiquarian) placed in wooden slots at all kinds of angles. The seating is very comfortable and the bartender was really friendly. read more

We checked in and went to the bar for a drink while they prepared our room. We paid $41 Dollars (367 Swedish Krona) for two drinks. Flys were buzzing around the seating area in the bar. One of the flys flew into my husband's drink. The bartender refused to replace the drink. Instead, he suggested my husband fish the fly out and finish the drink. Not a very promising start to this portion of our trip. We had hoped for a cleaner hotel; or at least better customer service. read more

I'm not impressed by Clarion Post. Our room was a bit run down, with big scratches on the floor, the television was far to big for the wall, and parts of the screen was sticking out on the corner of the wall. The door in the shower was loose and did not close properly. These details give the impression that this is not a fancy hotel. The breakfast buffet was also a big disappointment. It was not enough tables and chairs for all the guests this morning, so our breakfast experience was stressful, crowded, noisy and wherever you went - there was a line. Many guest was seated in the lounge of the bar, in big deep chairs, not suitable to eat in. The warm dishes was room temperature, and the food was not great. The staff was nice and friendly, and the location was great. I would not pay full price at this hotel, there is a lot of better options nearby. read more

The Clarion Hotel Post is an awesome place to stay if you're visiting Gothenburg Sweden. The restaurant upstairs has amazing food and they were playing AWESOME old school 1970s soul music all night long - these were classic songs that popular DJs/producers sampled to create hip hop classics. Let me just say, the Post is too nice. You stay there and you don't want to leave. The pool is awesome but I got a back ache once because it was -12 out so I was trying to keep my head dry in the pool. If you want to experience a really cool hotel and know Göteborg well, go for it. If you want to see the town, go a little simpler and cheaper. read more

We were six people having dinner at the restaurant on the second floor. A very cozy place and the hamburger was of the gourmet-style and very good. My low rating is because of the Beef Tartar. This is one of my absolute favorite dishes, but here I was baffled. Ordering it went well, having the red beets exchanged for chopped raw union. But I did not expect to be served a portion of chopped meat. Totally disgusting. Beef tartar must be ground meat, or actually in old school kitchen, scraped, to bring out all the flavor in the meat. Chopping it like they do is perhaps ok with a Tuna Tartar, but absolutely not with beef. There are some things that just can't be modernized and Steak Tartar is one of them. read more

Amazing staff, including Fredricka, Rickard, Linea, Tabitha, the hostess st Norda, etc! Friendly, excellent customer service. First time in Sweden. Highly recommend this hotel. We had seen some negative comments, none of which were true for us. The free breakfast for guests is amazingly abundant, fresh, delicious, and anything you could want for breakfast is there. From traditional to very Swedish. Rooms are imacculate, beds comfortable, the only negative was no drawers/ bureau to unpack; only a closet and open shelves. The restaurant Norda was exquisite, and they were able to help my husband with a little birthday surprise for me. We LOVE Sweden, and we recommend the Clarion Post because we believe they are the best!! By the way, their soaps, shampoos etc are wonderful....and the location can't be beat. Near a great indoor mall, across the street from a beautiful public garden, canal walkway, train station, and a beautiful plaza. read more

I am traveling all over Sweden Denmark and Germany. I was very disappointed in the Clarion hotel as it is not being maintained. Our room has a hole in the wall. Upon arrival I had no towels. When I requested towels I was giving one with large stains on it and no floor mat or wash cloths. When I requested a second set of bath towels I was told they did not have any wash cloths. On the 2nd day my towels came with stains on it again The hallway rugs are stained and dirty. The bathroom in the lobby was filthy. To top it all off the central train station is right across the street with many undesirables hanging out there. Very disappointed read more

I like this hotel because it's centrally located and it has the modern amenities I like to be comfortable while in a foreign country. The rooms are spacious if you get the right room. We were originally booked for one person since my husband's company made the reservation for a work conference. When we checked in we told them we were two, and of course we expected to pay more BUT all they did was add another blanket to make it a two person room. Does that make sense? Not to me. So after trying to adjust to the TINY ONE PERSON room they tried to squeeze the two of us into we went down to the front desk and upgraded to a much larger and more comfortable room, for an additional fee. We also heard their two restaurants were pretty top notch so we decided to check one of them out for dinner. The sushi restaurant was booked for the next two days so we headed up to the bar and grill. I asked how long the wait was and the hostess walked away to check. Where was she going? Isn't she the hostess and isn't that her job to know or at least give me an estimate? Well, while she went off searching for answers a host came and I asked the same question to him and he immediately because flustered and told me it was hard to guess. It may be 1 hour or it may be more. That was a silly way to answer coming from this so called "top notch" restaurant. He then suggested that we go down to the front desk and see when we could make another reservation. We did, and front desk gave us a puzzled look to match our own since it usually is the job of the restaurant to know when their next reservation was, not theirs. She said she could call up there and ask or we could go back up there to ask ourselves. We gave up at that point. The parking situation is also pretty annoying. They don't have their own parking lot so they use the one at the nearest mall which is a good ~2 blocks away. We were lucky the weather was so great but also pretty cold early in the morning and at night. I can't imagine have to fetch your car when it snowed. Otherwise our stay was lovely. They have a cool room deck lounge area with a pool and the views are pretty amazing. The building is also worth taking note of since it's the city's old post office. Interesting enough though that they use Norwegian post boxes though. read more

This place sucked. Bathroom doors were about 200 lbs, too heavy to close in the night. Norda restaurant had horrible service... about 45 minutes to get greeted once seated and probably another 30 to get a half glass of wine. Breakfast was gross, and there were disco lights flashing? Room was dirty and uncomfortable. Hair dryer didn't work. Beautiful building, what a waste. Couldn't wait to check out the next morning and head to something more comfortable. read more
