I'd drive by this place for decades. Finally stopped and it didn't disappoint. A few notes- - seat your self in the bar, restaurant or outside - line up to order your food - collect your food with a buzzer - drinks from the bar The line at the restaurant was long. Waited 15minutes to order. The food was relatively quick except they forgot a cutlet. The lamb cutlets tasted were decent. There was very little seating left when we finished at 7pm on a Wednesday. Parking was full when we left. I suggest come early to avoid lines and parking issues. I would gladly come back. read more

I would consider myself a regular at the Clarendon and on many occasions it's busy and a long wait for food but as of today I will not go again. After watching people order 45 minutes later than me and then served ahead of me we joked that they must be still chasing the cow and still fishing for our meals. So after 60 minutes we approached the staff about our meals only to find they lost our order, we took a refund. Seen it busier than today and it appears the staff like to slack off when the patrons thin out. Time to find a new venue. read more

I was going to say that this pub has a rather nice country feel about it, but honestly, by the time you get to this pub you are practically in the country anyway, despite the fact that there is a suburban railway line running behind it. Still, this place wasn't all that bad, and I found the service to be alright. Sure, there wasn't a great selection of beers on tap, but the atmosphere of this place actually wasn't all that bad. read more

The hot rok thing is a new thing in Sydney right now. You get your meat on a hot stone and it sizzles away in front of you and any grease drains off, hence the HotRok name. The Clarendon Tavern is opposite the RAAF Base and next to Clarendon station. Lots of parking and you can watch the air force planes taking off and landing. A group of us went on a Thursday night for the $5 main course deal (buy 2 meals from the chargrill menu, schnitzel menu, main course menu or hotrok menu and pay $5 for the lesser priced meal. Or $10 for the second plate of beef reef, seafood plate or hotrok surf turf). The place was packed so I would recommend a reservation. My dad knew the owner and told me all the cooks are chefs. The inside is nicely done, but the tables are definitely packed in there. I like the concrete-stone counter and the artwork. You line up to give your order at the counter and you pick it up from the other counter when its ready. We all liked our food, but I would consider it a little pricey if paying full price for each meal. My seafood plate was stacked high. You can go directly to the adjacent full bar for your drinks. Smooth beers on tap. It got a little hot in the dining room with all the people, but that I could handle. The noise level of all the chatterers was a little much, but that I could handle. But one table had three young girls who started running around and squealing loudly - all three of them. I looked over and the large party they were somehow seemed oblivious to the ear-piercing squeals. I've never seen anything like it in a restaurant. When it continued I got up and flagged down a server and politely told her to take care of the problem, or I would. She nodded and went back to the kitchen and didn't come out, and the squealing continued. So I go over to that table and tell them that they needed to stop the squealing. I wasn't asking them, I was telling them so I turned away and didn't see the dirty looks that table gave to my back (as reported to me). Then that table all got up and left, giving our table dirty looks as they passed. The noise level immediately subsided and I'm sure all the patrons were relieved. I would think a restaurant wanting to be classy should have handled this situation better than the nothing they did. Lose a star for that. read more

As a family we have been coming to the Clarendon Tavern for a few years, we watch the planes and have a meal. It has never been a fabulous eatery, but it has been reasonable pub-food, with pretty good service and a menu that covered all the people in our family. Last night was the WORST experience we have ever had there and we will not be going back. We were started off on the wrong foot by my mother in law walking into an air conditioning bracket that is mounted at head height and with no safety precautions around it or even a light to show clearly where it is(it was dark when we arrived). We got some ice from the bar however and were doing ok. My Father in Law and I then went to order our meals but were unimpressed by the server taking our order, she was very brusque with us, and declined to split the bill in to even 1/2's (fine, that's a thing in a lot of places, we can deal no worries, but it was the attitude that came with the statement). But then when I queried where all the vegetarian options had gone from the menu (there is now ONLY bruschetta, chips, wedges and a cheese pizza), the answer was abruptly stated that the menu was updated by the chefs, along with a look from her as though I was being a huge pain in her rear end. We paid and took our seats outside to watch the planes at 6.51pm. We had ordered 5 pizzas (supreme, hawaiian, chicken and bacon, and 2 cheese pizzas), 2 kids nuggets and chips meals and a bowl of chips. At 7.51pm we asked when the meals were going to be ready, because it was getting late and we no longer wanted to wait for basic food, requested a refund because we were done, and were told that the food was almost ready and pointed to the sign on the register which stated there was an hour wait for food (which had said 30 min when we ordered). Now for clarification, the restaurant was NO WHERE NEAR full capacity, in fact it was 3/4 empty. I cannot see how they could in ANY kind of good faith have waiting times this long for simple food when the restaurant isn't at capacity. I have worked in multiple kitchens, and this is NOT normal. The attitude of all staff was pretty much that we just had to wait. Someone mentioned an issue with the pizza oven when we started requesting our money back, but if that's the case, why would they not come to our table and INFORM us of what is going on? Like a normal business "hi, sorry but we are having an issue with "X", would you like to wait until we have resolved it or order something else that we can get to you in a more timely manner, or would you like your money back?"... But this business, every single staff member brushed us off and treated us as an annoyance. Our food finally arrived an hour and 15 minutes after we ordered it, and our kids meals arrived with some tokens for the games out back and ice cream vouchers. The food wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either, and it certainly wasn't worth the wait. (Our last pizza arrived after we had finished eating). The cheese pizza crust felt like it had been deep-fried, and the chips were reasonable. The other pizza toppings were quite scarce considering the price of them - Dominos looks really good after seeing these. After eating the food, I took some of the kids to the game area to use the tokens and try and salvage some of our sanity, however the machines then proceeded to eat the tokens and we were unable to even play a game. Using the bathroom, there was something nasty all over a seat in one of the stalls. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. Next time the planes are flying, we will just go to the park and bring a bbq. The Clarendon Tavern has lost us as customers. read more

I have enjoyed having Lunch at the HOTROKS BAR & GRILL , on a couple of occassions.And Absolutely enjoyed every mouthful. I start with a few Lemon Squashes, to refresh myself, then have Garlic Bread as my Entree. For Main Course i have Rump Steak and Garlic Prawns, with Onion Rings in beer batter and Potato and Gravy. Its generally a happy vibe of other Diners Enjoying each others company, and friendly as well. And the staff are just wonderful and pleasant. read more

Went to the outback rib house upstairs(same owners) as the hot rock. Booking was for 630pm, entree by745pm, the waited for 11/2 hours for our main. Which came out cold. The service was dreadful. We had to ask for the dessert menu? read more
