I appreciate Jennifer's review, very well thought out and penned. I interviewed Dr Rubanowitz…read moreover the phone, but we just didn't click. I did like that he seemed thorough and focused, but not a team player. In my case, I have ideas and questions about my mental health disorders that I would have liked to explore with Dr Rabinowitz's input and guidance, and then perhaps explore different treatment options together. Dr Rubanowitz, however, would have none of this. I was able to deduce that he is very controlling, and isn't going to spend a lot of time listening to input or concerns from his patients. His approach and character are not necessarily a negative thing. For example his controlling personality along with lack of listening to a person's input and concerns could be a positive thing, that is, if a person has absolutely no mind of their own, and are incapable of making decisions for themselves. So if you are able to fully submit to his authority without question, I believe you will both click and get along just fine. Whether or not his methods will work out for you in the end, I can't speak to that. You might read Jennifer's' post for more insight in this area.

This psychologist does some things well and some things not...or the "nots" may just be the things…read morehe is unwilling to do, as he did warn me that his practice is very focused. How much so it took me awhile to realize. He is all about "the toolbox" and, for some, this may be all they need. But you have to be at a certain point in your therapy journey for this to work. He emphasizes over and over that you have to be super motivated to make it work. But those of us struggling with depression, especially MDD, and trauma, and/or severe anxiety, which I have all of, know that getting motivated is one of the hardest parts, and he offered no ideas for accomplishing this state of mind. There were many times when I was trying to discuss particular problems I was having where I felt a kind of frustration or impatience emanating from him: he just wanted to get to the toolbox, was what I felt. And it's cool to see how enthusiastic he is about it. He really lights up. But an example of how I didn't feel properly cared for: I had, at the time, suicidal ideations. That is, I wasn't actually going to commit the act, but I thought about it night and day and it tormented me. When doing one of his exercises he asked what I was thinking about and I said 'Robin Williams', who had just killed himself. And he responded, "that's irrelevant ". Another time I brought up having these feelings and he asked if I needed to go to the hospital. When I said " no" he moved on. He doesn't seem to realize that people in this state need help to overcome the thoughts. We need to be able to talk about them without worrying about being carted off to some padded room (and though I've never been to a Redding psych facility I'm quite sure that the experience would be awful.) Now I'm on Zoloft for that, but it's not a permanent solution. Or, I was always worried about losing my job because I have memory and focus issues that cause me to make mistakes. But instead of trying to help me find ways to focus or think of accommodations that my employer could implement to help me, he told me just that the past didn't indicate the present, I.e. just because I'd lost jobs in the past doesn't mean I'll lose this one. He also has this method, and it's quite clear what he's trying to do, where he counteracts the negative things you are saying with something positive. But the way it feels is that he isn't listening to you, and this is what most people on the outside will do as well. So if I say, I can't find anything to do with my spare time that interests me, first he makes me rephrase can't as "won't let", which is really annoying when you are putting all the effort you have into something, and then he goes on to suggest the things you've already tried and says that the negative patient is the one who says (like Eeyore) " that will never work". But no, seriously doc, a cup of tea is not overcoming my major depressive disorder, and neither is a hot shower. Again, this is likely just about where a person is in their healing and therapy process. I think he needs to either be more selective about who he accepts as patients (only those who are really ready for his methods) or open himself up to listening to what his patients are trying to say, because quite often we already have some idea of what we need. I recommend him if you want to learn mindfulness, for example, but not if you are seriously bleeped up, like me.

I have actively searched out doctors who are still patient focused, who take the time to understand their patients and get results, and who provide both great care and great service. Reiner Chiropractic is absolutely one of those rare offices that totally gets it, totally cares, and takes the time to provide outstanding service & results. After being in a serious car accident 8 years ago I began to see Dr. Reiner, she got me back into great shape and now I just go in when I am in pain again, and every time she takes time to understand my pain areas, tells me exactly what's going on, and brings both immediate and long term relief. Recently Dr. Reiner was out so I saw Dr. Gleason for the first time. I was a bit nervous that I would not get the same level of care, but he was also absolutely amazing. Their office got me right in even though they were short a doctor for the day, and Dr. Gleason pinpointed the area causing the pain and immediately addressed both that and all of the secondary stuff as a result of stress or of my injury. Their office is very nice, very peaceful, and very efficient. All of the staff are friendly and great to work with as well. I highly recommend Dr. Reiner and Dr. Gleason, you will not be disappointed.

On my individual appointment with her, I discussed my hopes in the future to have another baby. Mrs. Parker was very harsh and told me that "An unselfish mother would worry about the children she has now." She crossed the line and almost made me have a panic attack because she attacked me so very badly. She knew I had a lot of childhood trauma and very sensitive, but that did not stop her. She even knew she had crossed the line. I hesitantly went to the next appointment thinking some people just have bad days, maybe it wasn't a good time for her either. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. She apologized to me, explaining that I had been on her heart all weekend and that she was praying I would come back. She told me she got impatient as a therapist and tried to pull me out of it right then and there, but knew that she had to let me do the work and just guide me. Now, I should have seen all these warning signs, but since we only had one bad session, I continued to go. We were scheduled to see her every Wednesday evening. My husband had gotten hurt at work and had to spend several hours at the urgent care getting x-rays and stitches. It was about 2 hours before our appointment with Mrs. Parker, and I text her as soon as I found out to cancel. I also asked if we should make a payment because we had cancelled too close to our appointment. She text me back and stated " No. This is something you could not avoid. Emergencies happen sometimes. I understand that." And then let me know that "I am sorry he got hurt. I will see you next week." The following Monday, Mrs. Parker texts me to confirm my appointment for Tuesday afternoon. I was extremely confused because she told us we were scheduled every Wednesday and that we had that "slot". I thought there was some kind of mistake. The response that I received in return was awful. There really was a lack of empathy, sympathy, compassion, and general warmth. It's unfortunate that she is only concerned with dollars and cents.
