We drove past the building the first time. It is a miserable grey looking building and it just moulds into the local scenery because all the nearby buildings look the same. Check-in is as 3pm and you cannot gain access any earlier. We were early so we paid and displayed in their car park which was a reasonable £5 for four hours and asked at reception for directions into town. We were quoted a 20 minute walk. It was nearer to 35 minutes in reality. When we returned to the Travelodge there was a queue of people waiting to be served but it was all amicable and didn't take long for the reception staff to shift the queue. There is an ice cream vending machine in the reception area. Check-in was quick and easy. We were issued door cards and went to our room. We took the stairs to the first floor. The stair walls were heavily marked but not dirty. The bedroom was a good size. The floor was clean, the bin empty. There were enough towels and toilet rolls. The only real complaint we had about the room was that the toilet had not been cleaned and the previous guest had left us a sizable present. The toilet bin lid appeared to have faeces on it. The shower curtain was yellowing and there was mould along the bottom of the curtain and in the shower grout. The bed was clean and smelt freshly bleached. We voiced our concerns about the dirty toilet as we were leaving for the wedding reception and the young man who helped us was so helpful he was going to give us a new room. We were in a rush so we asked him to get someone to just clean it instead. It was sparkling when we returned. When we returned, we ordered a nightcap from the bar. Unfortunately they could only take card payments because they didn't have enough change in the till. I'd thought that was kind of a given basic in retail, but we paid by card. We sat in the lounge area with the hard no-thrills sofas. They had the footy on in the corner. It was warm. This Travelodge isn't too far from a railway line where the trains rumble past quite frequently. The last one i heard was at half one in the morning and they were still passing at half six, roughly every twenty minutes. For breakfast, we took the lift down. There are two lifts, both are small (hold 8 small people each) and were really dirty and smelt a bit. We were greeted by the kitchen staff when we entered the lounge for breakfast. That was nice. Items available were a range of boxed cereals, milk, croissants, toast, muffins, a range of spreads, yoghurts and sausages, bacon, tomatoes, egg and beans. The cooked foods were all tasty, except for the scrambled egg, which had no flavour at all. Tea, coffee and juices were also available. You'll need to get down there within half an hour of it opening as seating is limited. There is also a free pay phone for the use of calling taxi's which everyone in Brighton seems to do as the fares are so cheap! The staff were very helpful. Check out was a doddle you just hand your door cards back in at receptions and that's it you're free to go:)

There's only 43 rooms including 3 loft suites but we're talking deep, roll top baths, comfy, handsprung beds and incredibly Egyptian cotton bedding. If you can bear to leave your room and venture out, there's lovely courtyard areas and a reception room where you can curl up with a newspaper and glass of wine. Which reminds me, the wine and cocktail list at Hotel Du Vin is second to none. I could drink here every day and I don't think I'd be served anything I didn't love! I've yet to eat in the Bistro but a couple of neighbours have been and all raved about it. There's also spa and massage treatments available and live jazz on the first and third Sunday of the month. They get a bonus point too for owning a beach hut - which you can hire per day or week. What more could you want from a hotel?

Everything here is to a truly high standard, but massively overpriced, losing Hotel du Vin the five star rating it truly deserves. I didn't realise Hotel du Vin was a boutique chain until recently: having only noticed it in Brighton, I assumed it was another of these ridiculously expensive, privately run hotels that dot the Brighton seafront between the two piers. It certainly seems that way from the outside, as the decor and set-up is professional yet quirky: an old fashioned thatch sandwiched between two tall towers. This charming eccentricity extends indoors as well: the rooms are designed in a casually peculiar way, often mixing epochs and colours for some... interesting results! However, under this there are all the signs of a well-run, professional business. The bistro bar/restaurant serves absolutely excellent food, and the wine and cocktail list is impressively long. The spa treatments on offer, while expensive, are apparently very nice, and there's even a rentable beach hut. Nothing has been skimped on here. All of this does come at a price, and it's a rather hefty one at that. Everything is quite simply too expensive: a common Brighton issue, but the prices here are so astronomical that they blow a lot of the town's other price-hikers out of the water. I suppose what is on offer is of the finest quality, but it is all excessively rich. I suppose Hotel du Vin are trying to attract a certain type of clientele... and if you sit in the lobby for long enough, you will see some faces you recognise! While Hotel du Vin is a lovely experience, be it to stay or have a meal or treat yourself to a massage, but make sure you're bringing plenty of cash with you!

We got a large room with a comfy double bed, TV, Coffee/tea facility and an en-suite bathroom with Power Shower and bath! The Hotel is also located within walking distance of the Laines and about 10-15 minutes (if you don't stop for anything) from the Pier. For a little extra, we had a dinner and an unlimited buffet breakfast included and the food was constantly being cooked and added tooo! We had a wonderful weekend, the only problem being people on our floor were smoking, but a quick call to room service fixed that and the smell had soon gone.

I requested an early check in - they never got back to me on that, which is fine, so I patiently waited in the lobby to get some work done. The check-in time on my email said 3PM. When going to reception at 3:05PM, they said the room wasn't ready, and the "time was wrong on the email and should say 4PM" with no further explanation. At this point, I had been sitting in their lobby for 3 hours after landing in Heathrow and taking the train to Brighton. I sat back down for another hour of work and go up to reception at 4PM. They then tell me the room isn't ready and just stand there and look at me. I refused to go sit back down because they verbally told me it would be ready then. After some calls, they were able to get me a room at 4:30PM. The next day, I go do to get breakfast, and the lady gets my room number and says "2 people?" And I told her it was just one and it was booked via work. She then tried to tell me I had to have 2 people, and I just laughed and said "I can eat for two" and she let me in. THIS morning for breakfast, they wouldn't let me in. The new lady said I didn't have breakfast listed when I clearly had TWO listed the day before. She said she would check, but I waited 10 minutes, and nothing. Going to one of the many great coffee shops here instead. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

Located in charming Kemp Town, just steps away from the sea, and we were lucky enough to reserve room 8, a king size double with a sea view. I have to say, both my boyfriend and I have never felt so at home staying in a hotel, and we've never received such a wonderful 5* service at such a decent price (less than £200 for Friday and Saturday night). We wanted for nothing. Upon arrival we were greeted by Matt with complimentary wine, and in the rooms they've gone to every small detail to ensure you have a comfortable stay, including a food and drinks tray, bath robes and slippers, free mineral water, ipod dock to a dvd library. Breakfast is equally outstanding, both cooked and continental including even bagels with salmon and cream cheese, with Andy making any special requests for you. It'll be difficult not to stuff yourself. The overall experience, including Matt and Andy's very helpful advice and generous natures, makes this a gem of a hotel to stay in. A gay bar/hotel/sauna right on the seafront in Brighton…read more This use to be a really popular bar but we was there for Brighton Pride and it was practically dead, the terrace used to be full every night of Pride, We was there having a few drinks on the friday evening and it has lost the atmosphere and the people it use to attract, There dosnt seem to be many tables and chairs anymore and the terrace is looking tired. We moved onto Legends after the Amsterdam where we had a great time.

The bed is massive with a load of cushy cotton pillows to sink into. The rooms have huge free standing baths in them which could easily fit three of you! If it was your lucky night... They also have a load of DVDs to choose from that you can borrow which is a cute, personal touch. No fridge for storing fizz or treats :( The cocktails are delish but pricey. We'd bought a voucher through Wriggle - hot dog & free flowing prosecco for £9.95 (1-4pm) & I must admit we weren't sure how it would live up to our expectation but we were both really pleased - our hot dogs were really tasty, although a little small to be classed as a meal, but the free flowing prosecco was exactly that! After being given a wrist band to show that we were in the prosecco club, we never had an empty glass, staff wandered around all afternoon topping up our glasses, we never had to go to the bar or ask for a top up. It was great - I will definitely go back, it was such great value!
