He seemed frazzled and hurried, did offer a little information regarding options, but mostly told us what he would not do... when he seemed to get annoyed with our lack of knowledge (the reason we were hiring a lawyer, I thought), he swiftly informed us of his $300/hour rate and of the $3,000 we would have to put down to cover the first 10 hours (an expense we have anticipated and are prepared to pay once we find an attorney we like) and cut our meeting short. We won't be hiring him due to 1) his unapologetic tardiness - I've had bad experiences with lawyers being late and no-showing, 2) his distinct lack of interest in the human aspect of our needs, and 3) I did NOT like the "good ol' boys club" vibe I got from him at all (if that even makes sense to others - haha).

Upon being called to the stand he then asked the judge if we could be excused for a second so we could talk. He then told me the judge wasn't going to budge and we needed to plead guilty. I felt totally put on the spot having really never seen any lawyer do this. I paid this guy for representation and other than the account of the arrest by the police officer, no details of the case were brought up at all. I was told he was going to attack the probable cause of being pulled over in the first place, bring up the fact that the officer agreed I was cooperative, etc...........and nothing. Look, I'm not saying any of this would have worked anyway but I literally felt like a sacrificial lamb. I felt like all he really did was agree with the DA and never "defended" me whatsoever. $1600 to plead guilty to a .09 first offense. There were also 3 citations (improper lane change, no signal, no seat belt), I want to make sure I'm not trying to make myself look innocent or naive in this whole situation. I just was led to believe that the whole thing was going to go one way..........and 10 minutes later he's telling me to plead guilty. I truly wish I would have saved my money.

Some 17 years ago I found myself in the first (and ultimately only) trouble of my life. I hired…read moreMr. Yates as my attorney to represent me on some serious charges in Virginia Beach. I'll be honest in saying that at the time I wasn't overly sure I had made the right decision. Mr. Yates is a straight shooter and may come off as less compassionate than you would hope for. With that said he has a great law mind and knew what direction to take my case. I am writing this review now because it took many years to realize how fortunate I was to have Mr. Yates handle my case. He gave me an opportunity to work my way out of the trouble I had gotten myself into. Yes, I had to plead guilty but in fairness I was guilty. The plea bargin that I accepted (from Mr. Yates work with the courts) offered me a chance to avoid jail time and ultimately have the charges dismissed. I rarely think about that chapter of my life anymore. It seems like another lifetime ago. I don't recall exactly what I paid for his services but I don't remember it being unreasonable and given the outcome it was well worth it. Thanks to Mr. Yates those charges are nowhere to be found on my record and I have been able to live my life without concern for the mistakes I made that year. Thank you Mr. Yates.

I will start by saying I noticed the business has two different pages of reviews, so I wrote a…read morereview on both. I have hesitated to write this review because I do not like saying I had a bad experience but with this one this experience start uphill and went downhill very quickly. I hired Mr. Conway to do my rebuttal for a GOMAR expecting that at the least, the rebuttal would look professional and be submitted on time since I paid him on time and provided dates and information on time. The rebuttal draft I was sent multiple days after it was due was erroneous and sloppy and was critiqued heavily by many professionals as "something an 8th grader would have produced" and I cannot say I disagreed. I spent time reviewing and finding error in the draft that was already late and sent them back to Mr. Conway outline the areas that needed to be fixed and the character statements that were missing that I wanted included assuming I would see this in the final draft. Nope, the final draft was a duplicate submission of the sloppily, semi-professional, erroneous document that was sent to me late and only after calling to ask him if it had been submitted. Honestly, I expected better as this made an already rough situation to deal with so much worse and irreversible and I feel as though my end of the contract was upheld; however, Mr. Conway's was not and he still received full payment of services beforehand. This is not how I believe a professional takes care of a client and really made me feel like I was another checked box for this law firm. I am a veteran business supporter, but I think if you're looking for an attorney find someone familiar with the area to recommend legal services to you.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Attorney Scott Hockenberry of Daniel Conway & Associates…read morefor the unwavering commitment, legal expertise, and compassion he has shown throughout my son's military court-martial appeal. He came highly recommended and did not disappoint. From the very first phone conversation, Mr. Hockenberry has been attentive, responsive, and deeply engaged. What stands out most is his ability to translate the complexities of the court-martial appeal process into clear and understandable terms, something I greatly appreciated as a parent navigating an overwhelming and emotional situation. Mr. Hockenberry never made me feel like "just a family member" he made sure my voice was heard, my questions were answered, and my concerns were respected. Above all, he is honest. He never made false promises, but he always provided hope grounded in law, facts, and preparation. His confidence and professionalism gave me strength during some of the darkest days of this journey. If you are looking for an attorney who is not only skilled in military law but also deeply human in his approach, Scott Hockenberry is that attorney.
