Ask the Community - CKO Kickboxing Maspeth

Does it matter if you are a beginner, no kickboxing experience and out of shape 🙃?

Hey Terri, No absolutely not. That is the beauty of our gym, it is filled with people who range from beginners to advanced. Lol and don't let our advanced members fool you you, they were beginners at one time too. Come in and try a free trial, I… Read more

Can teens attend classes?

Hey Stephanie, yes they can. You must be 16 or older. If you are younger than 16 please have an adult present to inquire in person. We also have a kids class ranging from ages 6-12 years old.

Pros: + Staff is amazing and understanding + Great lessons + Intense work outs + Great community + Convenient location + Multiple levels for membership (ranging from 1x per week, 2x per week and unlimited) Additional Considerations: Please keep these in mind, because I think this studio may not be the best fit for everyone. - Locker rooms to change, but no showers - Each class is about 45 min (compared to some other ILK studios that do about 60 mini classes) - This studio is located inside the Rego Park Jewish Center. This means that they studio cannot be open during the Sabath (I.e. Friday evenings and all day Saturday). In addition, they also cannot hold class during the Jewish holidays. In spite of this, they do hold several classes in the am and later in the evenings Monday-Thursday and on Friday/Sunday mornings. IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

They will make you work and encourage you to push yourself further and further. I hate the gym but their classes really help me stay active and so fun. They play great music and they even have themed events. Definitely give it a try! You won't regret it, pinky swear.

And they are all here to help you learn the art of kickboxing. This is not "boxercise" or a boxing "club". You come here to learn, train and spar. Don't bother if you aren't willing to push yourself at least a little. All the teachers are friendly and professional, and obviously super skilled. I hope I can stick with it. I'm pretty sure I will. I'm a little older but not that old to get back in shape and stay that way. Right now it's Covid-19 time so we haven't moved on to BJJ and hard core Muay Thai, but as soon as this virus dies I'm looking forward to learning all of it. We do practice the kicks and punches though. I love how I feel after coming out of the place. But you have to push yourself or you will get nothing from what they have to offer. I want to be healthy in my old age, with the ability to fight for me and my family, if I need to defend myself.

A-OK... I am between 3 or 4 stars. I will complete the 20…read moreclasses I bought through groupon but I am extremely disappointed in the fact that they pressure you into buying a pair of gloves. The groupon deal said that it is a $40 for 20 classes that is awesome but the catch is you must buy a $25 pair of gloves from the site itself which is "half-off" because you're a newbie due to liability issues. It doesn't make any sense because I signed a waiver form saying they are not responsible for any damages to my own body -- i.e. if I injure myself. They said gloves are not covered by their insurance which I thought was a little uhh okay. I brought my own gloves that were exactly the same, though smaller and fit my hands better. I didn't have a choice because I want to complete the 20 classes! argh!! So I ended up dropping $65 for 1 - 2 months of classes! The class itself is taught by one of two teachers -- Master Paul and Carlos. Carlos had some great workout routines and I was sweating my ass off for the hour in class (but it was also like, 80,000 degrees in there). Have yet to attend Paul's class. This is NOT a place to go if you want to really learn to do kickboxing and are in serious shape. Master Paul let me know that this was a martial arts school that offers kickboxing as a fitness class. Form and technique aren't really taught here unless you're taking a class with M. Paul. This is a basic course for people who need to pay money to have someone push you into working out for a good hour (like me at the moment because I like to lie around my house and eat chips). Go For It Kickboxing is a GREAT STARTER course if you are not in shape or a SUPPLEMENTARY course if you're lifting without cardio (i hate cardiooo). My ex was a workout freak, inspired me to do general kickboxing for a year, switched to muay thai for 2 where I worked out for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Fast-forward to now and haven't sweat seriously for a year, and now need to tone and gain weight since I'm 110lbs of skin and bone. GO FOR IT! They are a fab team and you meet some friendly people. You def will lose weight and tone up!

I had an accident and after I recovered I try to go back and the owner told me they were closing and had to file bankruptcy. I asked for my money back and he refused. They just told me to talk to other locations which one is ozone park (which I can't travel all the way there) and beg them to take me there. I hope they never NEVER open this place and if you decide to go to another location be carful do not pay at front any package. I'm disgusted for this behavior.
