The best real estate in Hoboken - huge space to spread out and you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbor. The instructors teach really detailed but easy to follow techniques - I found Rumble to be way too complicated. They teach you fundamentals here but let you express whatever motions in a guided way so you're not thinking so hard about what to do but rather just releasing the stress. I love the floor to ceiling bags (as opposed to the hanging water ones) and the soft flooring is so comfortable. I also have to mention they clean this place multiple times per day - a dedicated crew cleaning and fixing things why it's always immaculate. I'm not sure if they officially own upstairs at 9th Street gym too but that is the best body builders gym in Hoboken. I only took a star off because the staff can be a little cold / unfriendly sometimes. read more

I've been a member at this location for an entire year now and can confirm this place has changed my life! Prior to CKO Hoboken, I was a member of CKO Jersey City so I've been a long time fan of the work out you get here. It's always challening but in the best way. The trainers push you to be better and they care about your form. If you're looking for a group workout that encompasses a lot of different things, then come here. It's also helpful that the front desk employees are so kind and have a smile on their face when you walk in at 7am. When I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's, the CKO Team was quick to help advertise my fundraiser. This place is the best, highly recommend for ALL ages and stages in your fitness journey. You're certainly welcomed here. read more

This place makes working out fun and challenging . I really miss the 430 class but all instructors have plenty of energy . The 45 minutes goes by fast and I get a gear workout . read more

This place is awesome. I went there for the first time last Wednesday to the 7:30pm class. The people that work there are friendly and willing to help in any way possible. The instructor took the time to walk around the room and give everyone tips to help them out. They have enough space to host huge crowds. I will definitely be going back. Make sure to take advantage of the first class free. read more

I've been a member of CKO for almost 5 years now. Safe to say I'm addicted. My current home gym is not CKO Hoboken but I took a drop in class recently and wanted to share how much I enjoy this gym. I used to be a member here when I lived across the street so my experience spans beyond the one drop in class. They only charge $5 for drop in which is a major plus as well. All I have to say is that this place is wonderful. The gym is HUGE so you never feel crowded or cramped even when it is full. Also major benefit that there is a regular gym above the kickboxing area. You are really getting two memberships in one as that's usually not the case for CKO. The staff was friendly to me upon my recent visit and always was when I was a member. The instructors are also friendly and knowledgeable. Every class is different and then always keep you engaged, no matter your skill and fitness level. One of the best things about this location is the sense of community. They do a very good job in making sure everyone feels comfortable and apart something great. As a result, working out here is always enjoyable. If you are interested in trying CKO, I urge you to take a trial class. You won't be disappointed. read more

Best workout - classes and trainers will get you into amazing shape. Been a part of CKO for over 10 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Superior customer support and service. Do not listen to the haters who only spent a month or two there or decided to write a poor review during one of their temper-tantrums- bitter and angry people who wouldn't be happy anywhere they go. CKO is for the beautiful people - inside and out. read more

I love taking CKO! Been a member since February and so far it is going great. I personally need someone to motivate me and tell me exactly what to do and even though it is a group class, it definitely works for me! The gym is very spacious, does not feel overcrowded. Each trainer is very helpful and friendly. They all teach class in their own style so I appreciate the variety. There's also an upstairs gym (which I don't use) but it's a great option for weight training. It is conveniently located by the light rail so it's perfect for me to go to class right after work. There is more than enough classes in a day so there's no excuses for me to miss. I opted to pay in full for the entire year, it was the cheapest option than doing a month to month contract. I have every intention of working out until then so it was the best option for me. It may not work for everyone. As for the customer service aspect, I haven't had much interaction with the front desk, since I only scan my keychain, take class, and leave. But I'm always greeted when I arrive and everyone seems very friendly. The only negative I would say about this gym is the bathroom cleanliness. It's not the dirtiest, but it's not the cleanest either. This could definitely improve. read more

RESULTS, RESULTS, RESULTS! So I gained a little bit (a lot) of weight during the winter season and let the last few months of my membership basically go to waste. I decided, it was sort of getting warm out, and I needed to make a change--and fast. I decided I would renew my membership at CKO on April 1st. The results: I go to CKO at least 5xs with 2 days off or lifting. I am no longer eating like a cave man and in just one month, I have made progress that I am very proud of. One of the differences this time around is how fast I saw results and it really has to do with me changing eating habits. My sisters signed up with me this time and now I always have a workout partner(s) -which seriously makes the workout even better. Last year I stuck with one instructor but now I'm mixing it up and each instructor has something different to offer. Heidi, Leo, and Jim are my faves. 4.5* overall. They still lack a few things that I hope they improve on in the future. (more locker room space, updated machines in the upstairs gym,) Also, the strictness they have on you bringing a guest that has already been there is a little ridiculous for the amount of $$$ you are paying. read more

I was never very interested in going to classes at a gym, but I can't sing CKO's praises enough! Their class schedule is as easy as can be to get there right after work. Classes are all based around intervals of bag work and general cardio, each instructor puts their own spin on it with different focus on one or the other - come at different times and get a feel for which classes you prefer. I've always preferred being in my little bubble when it comes to working out, but the results are pretty undeniable! The difference in stamina I feel is huge after starting here in November, but it never starts being easy as you'll naturally push yourself to the limit if you get into the vibe of the place. The gym upstairs is a good addition, it's kind of a hodgepodge of some pretty old machines but the upside is that it's almost always empty as most people are there for the classes. Memberships are pretty reasonably priced if you lock into a one year commitment, and for your added value I seriously recommend going to their "10 week challenge" meeting when that comes up. Even if you don't shell out the extra money for the personal training and nutrition tracking, the huge pamphlet they give out offers a ton of advice to help you take off some extra weight and build muscle when it comes to diet. read more

When I used to live in Ventnor, I was fortunate enough to live but a few blocks from the small, but tight-knit Ninja Academy, a martial arts fitness studio. The place wasn't for everyone, but if you were motivated and took a sincere interest in Tae Kwon Do, the eccentric Sensei Malcolm, a 6th degree dan, would add you to his eclectic fight club. I really enjoyed the subculture and the amazing workout that would fly by as I sparred other members and practiced moves and techniques on the bag. It was something I missed in the winters when I was at school in Boston, and something I thought I would have to say goodbye to entirely when I moved to Hoboken. Needless to say I was surprised to find a kickboxing gym less than 4 blocks from my new apartment. I started a free week trial of CKO and was immediately glad I did. The gym offers a number of classes every day- pretty much one an hour after 4pm on the weekdays, and is pretty easy to work into most people's schedule. The first floor of the gym (which is actually up several flights of stairs) is devoted to somewhere between 60-80 punching bags, lined up in rows. Classes are conducted here, where participants follow the direction of an instructor, usually while listening to some decent EDM. Classes are slightly different depending on instructor, but they all consist of intervals of boxing and kickboxing, interlaced with sets of cardio exercises. What's good is that the instructors challenge you to push yourself, and because it is a group class, you usually do more than you would otherwise to avoid looking like a slacker (gotta love group mentality). What's also nice is that the second floor of a gym is filled with typical exercise equipment and machines (along with a speed bag- which I love) and since most people go for the classes, the second floor is practically empty and there are never any lines or wait. I committed to the year-long contract at CKO three weeks ago and have been going three or four times a week. I have already noticed that I am losing weight and getting toned, which is a nice reward for how sore I have been after the classes. The classes are intense at first, but I think my endurance is growing and I am regaining the strength and energy I had back in my Tae Kwon Do days. I give CKO 4 rather than 5 stars, because although they filled the hole left in my life by Tae Kwon Do, I still miss the hand-to-hand combat and family-feel of my old fight club. I also wish they offered a pay-per-month option without a year-long commitment, although I suppose the investment forces me to go and stay in shape. read more

Got my membership a few months ago after a trial and I'm a big fan of this place. I alternate between classes and the gym upstairs. The classes are great cardio workouts and the instructors have a program to help you achieve the best results. However at the end of the day, you gotta push hard on yourself, whether the aim is to lose weight or build up. I notice that each instructor is a little different. For example, Chesar always puts 120% to the demos; Mike's music unfortunately just doesn't work for my rhythm; Alex's class is tough and satisfying; a lady instructor (sorry forgot your name) is very good at explaining which muscles to use with each move. Class sizes range between 5-20 depending on popularity. The gym upstairs have good variety of equipment (I'm yet to figure out how some of them work). Membership is good at both CKOs in Hoboken. Compared to the downtown location, this cko is bigger, better equipped, has more classes and is also strategically located next to ShopRite ;-) The reception is indeed a little clueless and rude sometimes as other Yelpers pointed out. They are reasonable most of the time. In any case, once registered, hopefully you won't need to interact with the reception all that often... read more

I came here on Monday night. I took a class with Alessandra. She was great! And the class was so fun....great workout! But it's intense as fuck!!! You will get your ass kicked!!! Be prepared and energized before you go. This is some intense shit. And HYDRATE!!!! But I would totally come back. It was super fun! read more

I'm a longterm member of both this CKO gym and the CKO in Queens, and the workouts are fantastic. I will say, though, that after participating in classes for years it does tend to get a little stale at times. There's only so much variety in punching a bag, so it would be great if some workouts incorporated light weights, bands, and other equipment to keep things fresh! Also, not every instructor places an emphasis on a proper warm-up and stretch and some instructors seem to skip over it altogether. With such intense workouts, this should be a must and consistent across all instructors. read more

I've been going to CKO in Hoboken for a little over a year now and love it. The trainers are all great and mix things up every class but one thing is consistent - it's always quite the workout. Don't worry if you aren't athletic though because they help tailor the drills and give you options. Don't want to run laps, do abs in the back, etc. I've not only lost weight since starting here but feel better about my physical health overall! I pay the yearly rate which is still not cheap but if you compare to other classes in the area it's one of the cheapest for the amount of classes you can go to (unlimited), plus they have a lot of equipment upstairs. read more

UPDATE: After going to cko hoboken for a couple of months, i have accepted it wholeheartedly despite the increase in subscription and the rocky start! I still miss my old cko in edison but hoboken made me finally feel at home. (The bathroom and cleanliness could be better, but it doesn't bother me as much as it should? i mean, as long as i get a good workout in - i'm all set. and the workout space is amaaaazing, plus shoprite is there to get a quick snack) I finally found awesome instructors who have pushed me to my max and beyond. Shout out to Francis & Roy for kicking my butt to the point where i want to die (in a good way?), Chesar for the awesome workout routine and club music, Mike for cleaning up my technique, Leo for slowing it down and still giving me a good workout, and Alex for pushing me and motivating me in every class! you guys are awesome! read more

CKO works better for me than going to the gym with a trainer. The classes are motivating and not too complicated to follow once you get the moves down. The space itself is just ok, nothing special, smells like a sweaty, rubbery gym. Lost a lot of weight after doing this for a few months straight and nothing else has worked as well. read more

CKO Kickboxing in Hoboken is TERRIBLE and has AWFUL customer service. Do not go here! There are better options for gyms and group workouts in Hoboken. 1) There is an older gray hared woman behind the counter that is super rude and disrespectful to customers. If you ask her any questions she raises her voice and yells at you that "you signed a contract!!!!!". Please talk at a normal volume and have respect for your customers. They just want to understand what is going on. She is there all the time and she is always very rude to customers. 2) They make it extremely hard to quit. They lock you into a 12 month contract then once it runs out they remind you that you have to give them "hand written notice" 30 days prior to your contract running out. Odds are you'll wind up paying at least 13 months. So figure your membership will cost $1,200 a year. Not a small chunk of change. 3) They nickel and dime you when you are paying a lot of money. Monthly fees are $90 a month so $1,100 a year. Needed an extra plastic keychain check-in tag that costs $0.01 since I lost my keys. They charge you for an extra plastic keychain check in tag. I'm paying you $1,100 a year, it's probably a wise investment to give your customer a plastic keychain tag that costs $0.01 to provide them with a great experience instead of making them angry and charging them. It's just one of many examples of milking every dollar they can get out of you. I wouldn't advise going here. You're just going to be $1,200 poorer with a bad customer experience. Buyer beware and explore all your other options first. I wouldn't give this place my money again. read more

I love CLUB KO! /Such a wonderful workout ... great when you're pissed off from work, or at your boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. Don't mind Mike randomly calling you out for, I dont know, checking your text messages during class, lol ... Hands down though one of the best places for a workout, especially even better now that they have a full gym upstairs. You won't get bored with this workout, and if you, well then take another instructor, or take your ass upstairs and run on the boring ass treadmill. Have fun ... dont hurt your wrist ... and dont hit your toes on the heavy bag during the round house ... ouch .... you'll have abruised pinky toe forever. read more

After being a member of Equinox for 4 years while living in NYC, I had a really difficult time finding a new gym when I moved to Hoboken. I live a block from this CKO location, so no other gyms are really convenient for me, and I mostly enjoy weight lifting on my own, not classes. Regardless, I couldn't beat how close this gym was to my new apartment, so I went and did the free week and it was great! So I signed up for a year's membership and have been loving it ever since. The classes, as everyone else has said, are a lot of fun and every instructor brings something different. A lot of the positives have already been said (good class schedule, classes are great, you really get a great workout, instructors are great, etc) but there are a few negatives... 1) the gym upstairs NEEDS to be updated, and reorganized!! There seems to be no rhyme or reason to what machines are placed where, the weights are mismatched (and the lower weights are hidden in a corner, so my first few times there I could not for the life of me find the 15 pounders) and the cardio machines look like something that would be gathering dust in my parents garage. Please, CKO, I'm begging you, update your stuff. 2) Their website needs some work. A few questions I've had, I cannot find answers to anywhere on their website (like training or membership rates, instructor bios, guest policy, etc.) all direct me to send them an email or call for information. I'd rather be able to look it up myself than have to call and ask. 3) Front desk. I was going to a 5:45 am class one morning and, still half asleep, started walking towards a bag without checking in. Honest mistake, right? The woman behind the front desk starts screaming at me, "Hey! What do you think you're doing?!?!!" Ma'am, it was an honest mistake. I'm sure you've been up longer than I have, but really, I'm exhausted and simply forgot. No need to be so rude. 4) Everyone seems to know the instructors names, but they never introduce themselves at the beginning of the class or anything, so...not sure how you get to know them...but that's minor. 5) I just have to say it again - update the gym upstairs!!!!! Overall, it's great for the price and I am really enjoying being a member there. I would definitely recommend it (and I'm trying to get my boyfriend to join with me!) read more

If youre coming for the boxing classes they are pretty good, but get boring over time. If youre coming for the Gym I would stay away, not worth it at all. The entire upstairs is a mess with equipment all over the place and a disgusting locker room. The personal trainers walk around the gym like they own the place, yelling at people working out to rack their weights even if they're not done with it. Too many good options in Hoboken to choose CKO read more

I'm not a "gym person" and I was really shy about coming here at first. I'm out of shape and not a very sporty person. Let me tell ya, I freaking love this place now. I became a member in January. I feel very welcomed here, in fact the instructors usually introduce themselves to people individually. I find them to be very creative and positive minded . Kickboxing is a lot of fun !! And they have a gym with tons of equipment upstairs. If you were like me and thought about coming but felt shy about it for a while, I encourage people of all ages to check it out, no matter how out of shape you are. read more

I would say that 99% of the time I love living in Manhattan and glad I moved there when I had the chance. The 1% of the time when I really miss Hoboken is when I need a good workout and miss the killer workouts from Club KO (notably from Joe, Mike and Yvonne I think her name was?). I used to go super early, 5:45 am, be done by 6:30, walk home, shower, and I was ready for the day by 7:30 am. It was amazing. I have yet to find a workout on the island of Manhattan that equals this. There are imitators but let's be fair, this one, the "original" is by far the best. I doubt I'll move back to Hoboken in this lifetime. But just know Club KO you all hold a special place in my heart. read more

My fiance and I have been taking classes at CKO Madison for three months in preparation for our wedding, and we absolutely love it. It is a great way to lose weight, get in shape and relieve stress. Membership entitles you to unlimited classes and unlimited use of the gym upstairs. We try to attend three classes a week, and we do our best to go on nights when our favorite instructors are teaching (if you talk to 10 different people, you'll probably get 10 different favorite instructors). Most classes follow a general pattern of 15 minutes of warm-ups, 30 minutes of bag work and 15 minutes of abs and warm-downs. Bag work mostly involves punching (jab, cross, hook, upper-cut) and kicking (front kick, round-house and side-kick) combinations for relatively short intervals, with sprints, push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, planks, squats or mountain-climbers mixed in between sets. You are always moving! While the classes follow the same general pattern, each instructor has his or her own style. Some are more focused on form, some do more cardio, some do more ab work. All are very well-trained and no matter which instructor you take, you will get a tremendous workout and be dripping with sweat by the end of class (bring and drink lots of water). Classes are catered to all skill levels, and you'll find a good mixture of males and females in each class. While the instructors will push the group as a whole, they give almost exclusively positive reinforcement. It is not an intimidating environment, and you can go at your own pace, get water whenever you need it etc. My only complaint. and it is a very minor one, is the web site. The class schedule is rarely updated on the web site, so unless your instructor posts on social media, you never know for sure if they will be teaching their regular class or if there is a substitute. Overall, though, CKO Madison is outstanding. It is a great workout, and a great way to work off stress after a long day at the office. I've noticed a huge difference in only three months and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Finally found a gym I like after trying a billion in NYC. CKO is a great HIIT workout. All the instructors follow the same strategies but with their own twist. For example, one is technical and focused on form and explains steps in detail; while another is more about power and speed. I like that they offer modifications based on your fitness level, so you can make things harder if you need to. Class schedule is great and classes go by fast and don't feel boring. I didn't feel intimidated walking in there at all. Pricing is reasonable - monthly rate $120 or $80 with a 12 month commitment. I saw a few people on here complaining about the front desk, but they're not any different from any other boxing gym I've been to. (They're usually not super fake and bubbly like at standard chain gyms). Showers or lockers you could rent (to leave things in overnight) would be a great future addition. read more

Membership includes unlimited CKO Kickboxing classes and access to the old school style gym upstairs.

Overall I thought it was a good workout. They switch up the moves every 90 seconds so it goes by fast and works every body part- instructor was really nice. DONT fall for the first free class. You have to pay $20 for boxing gloves which is the same as paying for an individual class. Not a big deal if you plan on joining but if not then you just spent $20 on boxing gloves you'll never use. read more

I did my first trial classes here. Instantly fell in love with the team and the workouts. They are all different. And even if you go to the same instructor, they always have a different workout plan. They push you so you won't give up. They make you feel great. They help you. It is very intense if you haven't worked out in a while. It's amazing how they keep you going for a whole hour!! It's not just kickboxing, it's body strength building as well. I feel so great about my body and I've been going for two weeks and starting my third week this week. I can't wait to see my results. I came because of the 21-day challenge. It's a great price because you have unlimited access to the classes and gym!! And it's like having your own personal trainer!! With lots of sense of humor!! I literally leave all my classes soaked in sweat!! It's worth every penny. I'm actually on my way for a Sunday class. As a member for almost 3 years, I can honestly say my CKO membership has been one of the best investments I could have ever made since moving to New Jersey. The multitude of trainers and diversity of workouts keeps you coming back for more and pushing yourself harder each time. I have joined the gym over two years ago after having classes with some awesome instructors ( Brandon, Ches, Adam). Today trying to cancel my membership was an unfortunate experience. I reviewed my contract which states I could cancel at any time since at this point I am month to month. The front desk argued with me that her standard electronic contract is different than the paper old one. Well, I care about what I signed and nothing else. After a little back and forth of me refusing to pay any additional fees ,they canceled my contract . I asked for a print of the cancelation and they write down on a piece of paper " this note confirm the cancelation". Not an organized business. My friend and I found a groupon for three classes and a pair of gloves for only $16! So we decided to sign up even though neither of us really knew what to expect. Our first class was on a Friday night and seemed more like an army boot camp rather than kickboxing, which some people may like but we were new and confused. We didn't know half of the terms, moves, punches or how the class even worked. Eventually we got the hang of it and had a great workout. We went two more times and each time we had a different instructor. Our first class was crazy, our second class was busier but more technique and punching and our third class was more cardio with three "attack the bag" moments where you just did whatever you wanted. Overall, I enjoyed all three classes. It's a great full body workout and helps with anger, anxiety and anything else you just want to get out. I probably wouldn't sign up for a month membership, not for me, but a good experience! The gym is fairly clean, can get hot and smelly at times, but not too bad compared to other places I've been. read more

CKO is a tremendous workout and community. Staff members and all those in the CKO community (regardless of fitness level) are very supportive and enthusiastic people. I have met so many great people since starting! The workouts are great as they are intense and motivating but all members are encouraged to modify and work at their own pace if necessary. As someone who lifted and was an athlete my whole life I have grown to love cko as my favorite workout. Most classes incorporate both cardio and strength training which I love. Another great part about the cko Hoboken is that there is a full weight room you have access to upstarts as well! The instructors are great especially, Alessandra as her classes are super intense and she ALWAYS mixes it up! She does a great job of using different combos, body weights drills, and conditioning drills through the whole class. And she makes great playlists that even go along with her drills sometimes. That being said, all the instructors are great! Jon is intense as well on Tuesdays, Anthony is always entertaining on Wednesdays, Megan on Friday mornings is great and always energetic! Ches does a phenomenal job as well and makes great playlists, and if you are looking for a great workout definitely try James as he does so many intense, yet unique drills! Overall, CKO Hoboken and the entire community is great and definitely something I suggest trying! read more

I have been a member for about six months now and I wish I could give them more stars but unfortunately, I can't because of one of their trainers who seemingly teaches every class. To get straight to the point Mike A. is AWFUL, he's an awful teacher, trainer, motivator, and is just all-around annoying to be around. He barely plays any music and TALKS THE ENTIRE TIME, literally the dude doesn't shut up-- talking about zombies, vacations and just pure nonsense for 45 minutes straight. He clearly just likes listening to his own voice. On top of being as annoying as a nat, he is not a good trainer what so ever and I would recommend he has a career change. His class is the same every single day. I also don't understand why he teaches SO MANY of the classes when the other trainers whose classes are 10X better than his only teach 1-2 a week. Why aren't the other trainers given more classes? Nicolette, Gail, Alessandra, Adam and more of the trainers provide much better classes and are motivating and you really feel like you get a workout in and the same can't be said for Mike A's class. I used to revolve my schedule around his classes just so I didn't have to deal with him - please give other trainers his time slots. read more
