    Took the bag down!!

CKO Astoria made me a new person!! My impression of CKO when I first stepped into the gym was how clean, bright and beautiful the loft space was... definitely lots of space to monkey around. Thinking I may not be ready to leave my other gym of 3 years just yet, I signed up for the month on my FIRST day... I was sold by the heart pumping music and my 1st session with Anthony definitely made me sweat like I never sweat before!! Loved that each class incorporated serious boxing techniques, and plyometric cardio. Long story short, I got 5 of friends to join within the week, and they loved it as well. They too signed up for the month on their first trial class... and finally committed to the year when the month ended. We go 3-5x a week and have a blast every time! Leo and Anthony keeps the classes exciting with new techniques, new music and constant motivation!! Classes at CKO not only made us stronger and healthier (did I mention I've lost 6lbs in a month... already??? And no more girly pushups!!), it also brought me and my friends together. FORGET Insanity, and FORGET P90X!! You WILL make CKO Astoria your 2nd home just like we did!!!

A brief history of how I got hooked on kickboxing was that I had a great instructor at my old gym, but for some unknow reason he left *sad face*. He was a great instructor, always pushing and motivating. The gym goes on cancelling all kickboxing classes *mad face* I cancelled my membership, end of story. I tried ilovekickboxing it was not the same level of endurance, but they are okay. I was a member for three months, and end of story. As I was driving, I saw the huge CKO kickboxing banners and was intrigued. I decided to try the free class and it was what I was looking for. The classes really build your endurance ,and the instructors incorporate free weights during their classes. They push you to the limits. In addition, there is a designed area for free weights. The class schedule ranges from 6am 11am and evening 5-8:15 p.m, check their website for full information. Each class is one hour long and the monthly membership is around $83 unlimited;great deal!!! * happy face* End of story.

Ask the Community - CKO Kickboxing

I want to know what the cost is. The business doesn't seem to be transparent about pricing. I want to avoid trying a class and having to deal with a sales pitch. I just want to know upfront. Anyone? Thanks!

Hi Sandra! The price ranges vary based on the type of membership you buy... I believe they have a 3-month commitment, a 6-month, and an annual, with the monthly averages between 80 and 130ish. They do promos pretty often (get on their email list!).…

A-OK... I am between 3 or 4 stars. I will complete the 20…read moreclasses I bought through groupon but I am extremely disappointed in the fact that they pressure you into buying a pair of gloves. The groupon deal said that it is a $40 for 20 classes that is awesome but the catch is you must buy a $25 pair of gloves from the site itself which is "half-off" because you're a newbie due to liability issues. It doesn't make any sense because I signed a waiver form saying they are not responsible for any damages to my own body -- i.e. if I injure myself. They said gloves are not covered by their insurance which I thought was a little uhh okay. I brought my own gloves that were exactly the same, though smaller and fit my hands better. I didn't have a choice because I want to complete the 20 classes! argh!! So I ended up dropping $65 for 1 - 2 months of classes! The class itself is taught by one of two teachers -- Master Paul and Carlos. Carlos had some great workout routines and I was sweating my ass off for the hour in class (but it was also like, 80,000 degrees in there). Have yet to attend Paul's class. This is NOT a place to go if you want to really learn to do kickboxing and are in serious shape. Master Paul let me know that this was a martial arts school that offers kickboxing as a fitness class. Form and technique aren't really taught here unless you're taking a class with M. Paul. This is a basic course for people who need to pay money to have someone push you into working out for a good hour (like me at the moment because I like to lie around my house and eat chips). Go For It Kickboxing is a GREAT STARTER course if you are not in shape or a SUPPLEMENTARY course if you're lifting without cardio (i hate cardiooo). My ex was a workout freak, inspired me to do general kickboxing for a year, switched to muay thai for 2 where I worked out for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Fast-forward to now and haven't sweat seriously for a year, and now need to tone and gain weight since I'm 110lbs of skin and bone. GO FOR IT! They are a fab team and you meet some friendly people. You def will lose weight and tone up!

**TRIGGER WARNING**…read more I had PT at courage fitness for a year. It wasn't until a few months in that Klaus sexually assaulted me. In the bathroom, alone in the building he told me to pull my pants down, he said "oh look you got a banana" which he used to describe the bend under my butt. He had measured me in my underwear before, it was kept professional in the past and I didn't feel uncomfortable. I trusted him, he was my trainer for a year and he monitored how my body was changing. This time was different though. This time he asked "Can I spread your butt cheeks?" Shocked, I immediately responded "absolutely not!" Still unsure if he was kidding and I just didn't get the joke. He wasn't. I felt him suddenly jerk my butt cheeks apart as I screamed louder "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO " and felt him lick me. I turned around abruptly and he said "I'm hard do you want to see?" I said NO! and pushed my way out. I was in complete shock. I STILL stayed and finished my work out. Something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I'll never understand why I was more concerned about making him feel rejected then I was for my self (something that he used when pleading not guilty.) He clenched his fists together and begged me not to tell my friend, who also went to him. Not "don't tell the cops" not "don't tell my fiancé who owns the place", don't tell my friend... In retrospect it's very obvious he was planning to do the same to her. It's easy to say why would you go alone in the bathroom with a man and pull your pants down... but I didn't think of it that way. Looking back the signs were all there. Inching past me and rubbing his dick against my leg, which I always thought was a result of the tight quarters of the gym. Holding my body to "help" me with my push ups. I recall him actually texting my friend "I'm going to lick your ass this week" instead of "kick" which we all laughed off as a result of auto correct. You can call me dumb, you can call me naïve or too trusting but this isn't about me this is about what HE did when he heard me screaming NO! I was yelling "no no no no no no no" like a doctor was about to give me a shot, I wasn't prepared for. The feeling and shock of wetness between my butt. The confusion and self hatred that followed. The feeling I was always going to bump into him in my neighborhood. Always trying to look ahead to make sure we weren't on the same block, in the same restaurant. Having to break my lease and move away from my friends. I drove past the gym sometimes and would feel like I was going to vomit, seeing the lights on, knowing there were still women alone with him in there and there was nothing I could do. Not even a yelp review. The DA said if I did, it could affect the trial. I went on my honeymoon shortly after, looking back on the pictures I recall how crushed I was as a person and how desperately I tried to live in the moment. My husband slapped my butt while I walked up the stairs, while we were there, and it resulted in me having a panic attack. Whaling in hysterics with my face buried in a pillow. I felt like I couldn't breathe, the unfriendly reminder of feeling touched and not seeing it, jolted me back to that place. I'm still not over it. He had the nerve to plead not guilty and every month at my new job I had to tell them I might have to use my "vacation days" bc I didn't want to say I had to testify at my own sexual assault trial. The fear of facing a jury who didn't believe me, when I have no reason to lie. There was no money, I didn't need to look bad at a new job, I didn't want to break my lease and move all my things. All I wanted was one thing and that was for him to not be alone with women, so this wouldn't happen to anyone else. The trial is over now, he finally pled guilty and I can "move on" but I know I'm not alone. If you're reading this I enCOURAGE you to go to the police and tell your story. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I had a leg injury and visited a chiropractor several times, but my progress was very slow. After only three deep-tissue massage sessions with Danny, I noticed a significant improvement and was able to gradually return to my normal activities. I have also had a great experience with Danny's strength classes. In the past, I attended Orangetheory and was injured several times because the trainers were not always able to notice or correct improper form. Danny gives each person individual attention and takes the time to correct posture and technique. Since training with him, I have been able to build strength without getting injured. His training also improves mobility, balance, and the movements we use in everyday life. The singing class is another great addition. The instructor is very dedicated, patient, and genuinely invested in helping each student improve. I'm also very excited that the studio is now offering Pilates reformer classes at an affordable price. It is wonderful to have access to so many high-quality fitness and wellness services in one welcoming place. Danny and his team are knowledgeable, attentive, and truly care about their clients.

This is going to be an excellent review, but before I tell you why I hold this place in high esteem, let me give you some background. I'm in my 30s, overweight, sedentary, and not used to being around "workout culture", if you know what I mean. I was nervous that I wouldn't really fit in, that I would be left behind in the dust of others who are physically fitter than I, and didn't really know what to expect. However, everyone here is extremely friendly and supportive - not just the staff, who are amazing and knowledgeable, but also the students. The instructors are patient, personable and provide great motivation without shaming you. The workouts are fun and well thought-out. This is more expensive than a gym membership, but it is also so much more rewarding. You really feel like you're part of a family when you train here, and, as for me, I am motivated to keep coming back! They also have classes for kids, and from what I've seen (I'm not a parent but have caught the tail end of some classes before my workout), the kids look like they're having an awesome time!
