The only thing that was annoying was the lack of parking. Since it is Astoria there will be a lot of searching for a parking spot unless you want to pay. Luckily i got there in time for the 11am class and the parking was available due to street cleaning just ending. I joined CKO Astoria in April and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! After graduating college I was overweight, unhappy and needed to get myself back on track. I had heard about CKO and signed up for the free trial class. I went and struggled through it but knew this was the full body workout I needed once a day. I made the commitment and signed up for a membership and have been going 5 days a week ever since. All the trainers are great and have different boxing/workout styles. Everyday your targeting different muscles and working on different boxing techniques. My favorite thing about CKO Astoria is that no one is expected to be a professional boxer/muscle head. This gym is for EVERYONE and encourages you to push yourself at your own pace. Most trainers also incorporate equipment into the workouts as well; weights, medicine balls, bands, and some partner exercises too (which is a great way to meet people)! Personal training sessions are available with most of the trainers and they have cool CKO Astoria shirts, hoodies, etc. I highly recommend signing up for a membership and committing one hour of your day to getting stronger, leaner and increasing your stamina. Everything was great up until I suffered an injury. Throughout the year that I was a member, CKO had black foam puzzle mats that bubbled in the heat. Weights were placed down but did not cover all of them. Despite announcements to be "mindful," they did not really suffice for an ongoing, neglected hazard. Back in July of this year, I tripped and fell on one of the bubbles and twisted my knee/leg during a sprint in class. (Note that the mats were black so it's hard to see when you're sprinting.) I was in a lot of pain so I left class early and went to urgent care. At this point, I was in the last month of my year contract. I reached out to the owners requesting that my membership be cancelled and I not be charged for the last month since I physically could not go to any classes anymore, which I believed and still believe, was a reasonable ask, especially because I had been hurt at their gym. The response I got was "why not come in for yoga, use our other equipment," showing very little empathy. I was asked to send proof of my visit to urgent care, which I complied but to no avail. On several occasions I was promised a call back within the hour or later on, which never ever happened. I had to chase them over multiple calls and emails. From the time of my incident, it took a full 3 weeks to finally cancel my membership with no refund of my last month. Again, also promised a confirmation email noting the termination, but never delivered. When it came down to it, not paying for a full month of membership that I never utilized would have been preferred, but what was really upsetting was the complete and utter lack of professionalism when handling the situation. I would not have minded as much if I had been shown some more respect and at the very least, received some responsiveness. Five months, 6 visits to doctors/chiropractors, 3 visits to urgent care, x-rays, and msk ultrasounds later, I am still not 100% recovered - turns out it was a fibula injury to my knee. Before you consider joining this gym, take some time to think about how you would like to be treated if you were ever to get injured. And I only hope they've at least replaced the mats. read more

This place is great. I switched over from UFC and it was a seriously great decision. This gym houses great boxing instructors (female ones too!!), offers better priced memberships than other places, and attracts cool, hardworking people. The workouts are as intense as I like them to be and I know if I didn't have to go back to Boston for college, I'd be here for 2 classes every single day. The only thing that could improve this gym is a private locker area where one could change, and possibly more class options like TRX training and MMA. read more

CKO Astoria made me a new person!! My impression of CKO when I first stepped into the gym was how clean, bright and beautiful the loft space was... definitely lots of space to monkey around. Thinking I may not be ready to leave my other gym of 3 years just yet, I signed up for the month on my FIRST day... I was sold by the heart pumping music and my 1st session with Anthony definitely made me sweat like I never sweat before!! Loved that each class incorporated serious boxing techniques, and plyometric cardio. Long story short, I got 5 of friends to join within the week, and they loved it as well. They too signed up for the month on their first trial class... and finally committed to the year when the month ended. We go 3-5x a week and have a blast every time! Leo and Anthony keeps the classes exciting with new techniques, new music and constant motivation!! Classes at CKO not only made us stronger and healthier (did I mention I've lost 6lbs in a month... already??? And no more girly pushups!!), it also brought me and my friends together. Signed up for free class. Luckily I brought my own gloves because upon arrival they tell you if you don't have they must be purchased. Class was ok. It was a hardcore workout in general, I only wish there was more actual kickboxing. There was a lot of running and hit exercises. The actual bag workout was ok. My ID was held until end of class and then I was waiting for a bit while the person at the front desk was assisting other people. Then I was given the sales pitch. I said I wanted to think about it and then this persons attitude changed completely. Their reaction was, what's to think about? It's not that much money? And then just completely dismissed me. I was seriously considering joining but after the way I was treated I am definitely not coming back. He is dedicated focused makes you challenge ur beliefs brings the best in you and makes you a better person. I've been at CKO for almost a year and my only regret is that I didn't join sooner. There's nothing but positivity & hard work in this gym. I feel stronger- both physically and mentally- and lost weight thanks to the amazing coaches at CKO. The workouts are a good mix of boxing, cardio & muscle strengthening. No class is ever exactly the same to keep it from getting repetitive. I genuinely look forward to going to class and no longer look at going to the gym as a "chore," which I never knew was possible. I was hesitant to start because I never kickboxed before. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no intimidation in the gym. Everyone's encouraged to challenge themselves while working at their own pace/level. I never felt out of place as a beginner. I'm happy to say I've come a long way since then. Fast-forward two days after attending that trial class: Sleep and other normal activities became [temporarily] difficult and simple tasks became EXCELLENT reminders of just how sore my muscles really were. ...Maybe I should not have pushed myself as hard as I did that first day, I thought. ...Have I made a huge mistake in committing myself to a year-long membership, I wondered. Admittedly, I took my time and waited nearly a week to attend [survive?] my first class as an official member. Fast-forward 6 months after attending that trial class: After I eased myself back into the gym in early September, I've worked my way up to attending about 3 or 4 times per week, as permitted by my schedule and always-unpredictable commute from work in the south Bronx (all aboard the 125th St. M60 SBS-- it's a lifesaver and stops RIGHT in front of CKO!). If you care about your health, you know how hard it can be to find a gym or workout routine that you like and that works for you. For years I have been looking for a workout that challenges me and allows me to see improvements in my strength, conditioning, and appearance. I've tried running outside, chain gyms, and personal trainers, but nothing came close to the experience that I've had at CKO Astoria. I tried a free trial class with my wife on a Saturday morning when the gym was celebrating its two-year anniversary. The class was supposed to be for members only, but we signed up by accident and Leo and Anthony were nice enough to let us stay and try it out. What a kick in the butt that class was. By the end we were absolutely exhausted. And the next day we were still sore. But we signed up and it was the best decision I've ever made for my health. About three months into the membership I feel stronger than ever. I learn new kickboxing and exercise techniques almost every class. Like other reviewers have said, all classes are structured to allow for participants at all levels. If you're winded and struggling to keep up, you can go at your own pace. If your arms can't lift any more then you can modify. And for every modification there is a right way to do it to ensure that you get the most of each rep. But as Anthony says, "we never stop working". If you're considering a class, here are some basics: - Classes last approximately an hour (sometimes more if we're having too much fun). - Each class begins with a warm up of some sort followed by stretching. - The core of the class usually mixes together strength training, kickboxing combos, review of form and technique, etc. There is no set routine. The workout is ALWAYS different. Your body doesn't know what to expect, so you never get comfortable. You just follow instructions and push as hard as you can. - Most classes end with some variation of cool down and stretching. - Classes are scheduled daily at convenient times, especially Monday - Thursday with 3 evening time slots after work, 5:45, 7, and 8:15 PM. Regardless of how hectic your own schedule is, there is a class most days at a time that will work for you. Weekend classes are scheduled in the morning, and there is a weekly yoga class on Sunday mornings free to all members. The yoga class is really awesome. I don't have much experience with yoga, but Alice is a proper instructor who gives everyone in the class great feedback. - If you're going to try a class, CKO has everything you need available for purchase at reasonable prices. This includes boxing gloves, MMA gloves, hand wraps, etc. When we signed up my wife and I both bought a pair of boxing gloves and I use mine a couple times per week, and they're in great shape after three months. - Hand wraps: use them. I hadn't gotten around to buying hand wraps for my first few classes and my hands and wrists were always sore after class. I could feel every punch, and it hurt like hell. Eventually I started using wraps, and now I absolutely need them. I can throw much harder punches and my wrists have the support they need. I read that 180" wraps are best, but I would suggest 108" wraps. The 180" wraps will provide great support, but 108" wraps are plenty sufficient and easier/quicker to put on. I would recommend CKO to anyone looking for a new gym or a change to their current "routine" if it's become too predictable. No routines here. It's a great place to work out with awesome instructors and friendly members. Each instructor has his/her own unique style, so taking classes with different instructors keeps things interesting. Class sizes are reasonable enough that instructors will help individuals who need assistance and are always willing to answer questions before or after class. To be honest, I was a little nervous before my first class and relied heavily on Yelp reviews to get an idea of what to expect. The reviews here don't lie. It's a great experience. Legitimately FIVE stars. And what seems like it should be an intimidating atmosphere (after all, there's a lot of aggression in the room during class!) is not intimidating at all. A brief history of how I got hooked on kickboxing was that I had a great instructor at my old gym, but for some unknow reason he left *sad face*. He was a great instructor, always pushing and motivating. The gym goes on cancelling all kickboxing classes *mad face* I cancelled my membership, end of story. As I was driving, I saw the huge CKO kickboxing banners and was intrigued. I decided to try the free class and it was what I was looking for. I was a member of another kickboxing gym for over a year, and when I finally joined CKO I literally felt like I was out of shape! These guys deliver a workout beyond expectations, and they do it while making you smile and feel supported! I feel a lot of what other reviewers have mentioned. You feel right at home in the space. The most important thing for me though, is the level of precision and experience these instructors deliver. They know what's up and they go about their classes like the professionals they are. I teach yoga and am very mindful of what my bod is doing. My body doesn't hurt, or feel uncomfortable with 99% of what happens in class. They know what they're doing and teach it well! The changes in my strength and endurance in less than 4 months is proof that what they're doing is 100% effective! Every instructor offers a unique experience. One of the best workout decisions I've ever made was to make my way to CKO thanks to the recommenation of an old friend. I was hesitant given I hate signing contracts especially for gyms and not to mention I hate taking classes. HOWEVER, classes with Anthony, Patrick and Scottie B at CKO have kept me pumped and at the same time they have kicked my A$$! It took me 2 months before I gathered up the courage to take Leo's class, it's the hardest! Towards the end I could barely keep up, but he wouldn't let me give up. I finished it! I quit my gym after a week of their classes and signed up for a 3 month contract that I am definetly looking to extend. There are days that I feel it gets too intense but I slow down and go at my own pace as they often advise you to. This is OK and trust me it is not frowned upon. They aren't drill sargeants but they do push you to challenge yourself and every class is different, they are constantly switching up the work outs. It's awesome, better than any workout, yoga, treadmill, zumba, pilates or whatever the hell else I've tried. I stay motivated, energized and keep going back for more. You can expect to do a few set of each: Squats, burpies (ugh), jogging/running/sprinting, crunches, pushups, situps, sprawls, bag work and don't forget to stretch. All of these spaced out in a matter of 60 minutes and sometimes the instructors are so into it the classes will go on a little longer! read more

Fellow Yelpers have already told you what to bring and what to expect, so I'll skip it since I don't really have a basis of comparison, here. My workout before CKO Astoria consisted of riding my bike to work in the spring and summer and riding a stationery bike at Planet Fitness when it got cold outside. It sufficed, but only for maintenance. I am a little physically awkward, haven't ever considered myself to be athletic, and feel uncomfortable in most fitness-oriented settings. When I rolled into CKO with a Groupon and my tail between my legs, Leo greeted me and remembered my voice from a phone call I had made a year earlier with an inquiry. He proceeded to chat me up and I realized that perhaps, even though he is built to last and I am built for comfort, we were not so different after all! A regular there taught me how to wrap my wrists and I immediately felt as comfortable as I possibly could in a room full of punching bags. That didn't last, because class started and getting my ass kicked was not a comfortable thing; but that is what I came for and it's certainly what I got. After my 3rd class or so, it got a little easier, but the workout has never once been exactly the same and I suspect it will never be straight-up easy. Anthony is certainly the one with the sales edge and seems proud to know that CKO is the first place I paid for classes after my Groupon ran out. He is right to be! His class, I might add, is my favorite. His taste in music and sense of humor align with mine more than the other instructors', and he always seems to be having a pretty giddy time of teaching it. And his dance moves are a sweet bonus. I'm already seeing and feeling results. Leo continues to make me feel right at home. I say go immediately, and only further advice to someone like me: Be sure to mix in some yoga! You gotta stay limber while you're getting jacked, and I'm not gonna lie... all that punching and kicking is stirring up a bit of aggression inside me. CKO Astoria is amazing! And I'm saying this after just two classes. The gym was very clean with a ton of punching bags, perfect for when you need a stress relief or just a really great workout! I went in for my first trial class on Thursday and again on Friday with my Groupon voucher. I was a little intimidated to go at first because I haven't worked out in almost a year, but I decided that a change was a must, especially with my wedding quickly approaching! Leo was kind enough to show me a couple of moves before the class started. Both Leo's & Anthony's classes are awesome. I have never sweat so much and I've done P90X & Insanity. Every muscle in my body is soar, but that's ok... that just means that the classes are obviously effective and proves that all of our muscle groups are being worked in each class. I'm not complaining though... No pain, no gain! I really wish I could go every day, but it's hard for me because I work overnight. Also, I live about 25 minutes away from CKO which is a little out of the way for me, but so worth it. I haven't signed up for the month yet, but I'm definitely leaning towards it! I started a different CKO with a friend a couple of years ago, and with work and lack of time-I begrudgingly gave up my obsession. So I was ECSTATIC when I found out a CKO was opening up in Astoria. My experience had been so positive, I signed up MONTHS before they actually opened. Seriously, it's the BEST. In the past I've had memberships at various gyms and after a month or two I'd give up and find any excuse not to go and would end up wasting my money. But CKO was a different story. Anthony and Leo are AMAZING. They always greet you with a smile and they know your name (I don't think people realize how amazing it is to have an instructor who knows your name, to call you out when your high knees aren't high enough or when youre not hitting the bag hard enough.) Don't let their friendly, joking, demeanor fool you--they're no joke when they have you dripping sweat. They each have their own style, but trust me, you could go to any class and get the most intense workout, regardless of who is teaching it. The instructors are always willing to help, whether it's teaching you how to wrap your hands, telling you how to perfect your kick, etc. Classes are intense and the energy is crazy.A full body work out doesn't even begin to describe it. CKO is more than just the physical work out, it's complete emotional and mental work out well. You're able to let it all out during your work out, the stresses from work, relationships, and life in general. And mental in the sense that to push through these classes it really needs to be mind over matter. When your holding plank for sixty seconds or squats, or burpees-after an intense round, it's not just about physically doing it, it's about mentally pushing yourself to go further than you thought you could. The instructors believe in you and motivate you to go faster and harder and to not give up just because it hurts. If you're a beginner, don't worry, your first class starts off with a one on one, 5-7 minute introductory session with one of the instructors. They teach you how to jab, cross, hook, upper cut, round house, and front kick. One of the great things about CKO is that you go at your own pace. So whether your a beginner or a pro, you can make these classes as intense as you want, by pushing yourself to your OWN limit. CKO classes challenge me and keep me on my toes. This place is legit. I've seen the reviews for a while and thought about coming here for months since I live in another part of Queens, and coming here meant driving here and then looking for parking (which in Astoria is not the easiest thing sometimes.) All I can say is that I'm glad I did. I signed up first with a 10 class pass to make sure this was for me. I wanted to get through it and also make sure the parking wasn't a problem. 10 classes later and passing all my own personal tests, I can say that I feel like I'm getting hooked and I signed up for the year. The place is big and long. They must have 40 to 50 (maybe more) body bags in here so getting your own bag to work with is never an issue. It's also so long that when the instructors tell you to jog around the room, its almost like you're jogging around a mini track. The classes are intense, but you can go at your own pace. The instructors do a great job pushing you to get the most you can out of yourself. Lets be real, if you're going to a place like this, its because you're serious about getting results and getting into better shape. The people from the staff to patrons are all very friendly and non judging. The staff in particular are always there to talk to you and help you anytime. I never felt uncomfortable in this gym from the second I walked in there. If you dont like the same monotonous bs from going to regular gyms and you want to be pushed to your limits, but have fun and feeling good doing it, CKO Kickboxing is definitely the place to go. I called the facility because it was highly recommended to me by my friends at Title Boxing. I lived in New Jersey grew up in Hoboken and was thrilled to find out that there was a CKO Boxing Club in Clearwater FL. I called during the week and was told I would need to fill out a form before starting a class, which is totally understandable. I was super excited knowing there franchise history. I arrived at 5:15p.m. as I was parking there where two ladies getting things out of a vehicle and bringing things inside. I immediately placed my mask on and proceeded to go towards the door. It was locked I peeked inside and the two ladies proceeded to enter an office room that was towards the far right hand side of the facility. I knocked on the door and no one acknowledged me, I proceeded to knock harder the door is made out of a rather thick heavy glass. The facility franchise owner proceeded to walk towards the door as she opened it she replied with what do you want. I was stunned. I proceeded to explain that I had called during the week and was told I could stop by and pick up a form, she gave me the most mortifying look and proceeded to tell me that they where close and not to ever knock on her door that way. I went on to say that I worked locally, she did not care. Turned her back and I replied with I will never refer your establishment to any of my friends or co-workers. Its sad to day that a locally owned business would treat customers with such disregard. I have over 300 employees and would never treat anyone with such disrespect. I am now addicted to my kickboxing class and teachers! When I first stated I could do "squat" (pun intended) but with the encouragement and help of Anthony, Edgar and Leo I am a regular. My goal is to be their next model to show off how good I look and how great I feel. I went from being a once a weaker to a triple crown! Thanks so much guys! I am a huge fan of CKO - so glad I stumbled into this gym a few months ago. Now I think I might be a little addicted. The atmosphere is friendly. Everyone is extremely helpful and very welcoming. As a newcomer, I felt right at home. And I love the inspirational quotes on the wall. My favorite is: "Cowards never start, the Weak never finish and Winners never Quit!" The instructors are great: Leo - kicks my butt EVERY class. His workout is amazing and he has the best workout playlist. Scottie - tends to be more self defense driven, but gives you a great full body workout. Anthony - his classes are always fun. He has great energy and pushes you with positivity. Karrisa - FULL BODY WORKOUT. I leave feeling every muscle in my body has been worked out. Jeanene - Great combos. Great personality. Loves making us do turtles. Urgh... I wish I would have gotten the chance to actually take a class here but my experience upon entering the place made it impossible. My two friends and I signed up for a free one time class and were excited to try the place out. We arrived 10 minutes early to check in and were met by a nice man at the front desk who explained how everything worked. He asked if any of us brought boxing gloves, we hadn't because the confirmation email did not mention this. He then said we would have to purchase gloves for $30 to take the class, my friends and I were considering buying the gloves when another employee came to the front desk. We asked if there was any potential to rent or borrow gloves and she (the other employee) immediately interjected herself into the conversation saying no that wasn't possible and began lecturing us about why that wasn't sanitary, I have no problem with what she was saying (although I've taken several boxing classes at an Equinox where they wrap your hands and you use their gloves) the way she spoke to us was extremely condescending and rude, I was a little taken aback by being treated that way my first time at a new gym. We were willing to buy the gloves because we figured we could continue to use them but after that employees' treatment of us, we decided it wasn't worth it. We were literally about to swipe our cards for the gloves and said forget it. I would recommend management have a conservation with employees regarding treatment of potential members. Also, they should not assume people know to bring gloves, this should be included in the free class confirmation email. I understand that people who box regularly would know this but if they want to be inclusive towards different skill levels, it must be explained at the outset. This employee ruined our experience and overall perception of the business which is unfortunate because the rest of the reviews have great things to say. CKO Astoria is the best way to work out! The classes are geared towards not only teaching you real martial arts techniques but to help you build stamina, strength, coordination and confidence in yourself and that as long as you are motivated and determined, your body will follow. When I took my first class I was intimidated by the group of strong people I saw. At the end of my free class I was convinced this is where I wanted to work out, release stress and have fun! No matter which class I come to, or how long I have been coming, each class continues to challenge me in different ways. This helps each work out be energetic and fun, unlike a normal gym where a work out routine becomes boring. I have seen amazing results in the short 5 months I have been coming to CKO Astoria. Lastly, the people here are amazing. Anthony, Leo, Scottie, Karissa, Jeannine, each and every instructor brings something different to the table, but most importantly their different personalities, which gets you through every work out. I LOVE CKO! I was a beginner to kickboxing when I joined and from the moment I stepped in the door I felt right at home. The owners, instructors and other students in the class have all been super friendly/helpful... but that's not to say that they won't kick your ass. Every single instructor is an awesome, hardcore, knowledgeable, ass kicking, laugh generating, sweat inducing beast. Each class is unique and seems to murder muscles I didn't even know existed. I look at my past workout routines now and feel like I wasted so much time. They have gloves there for sale -- I purchased the finger-less ones and am so glad I did. My fingers weren't swimming in a pool of sweat + a lot of different exercises get incorporated in (push-ups, burpees. running, planks, etc) and they make these activities way easier. The icing on the cake is the cost. It's only $70/month, which is pennies compared to most kickboxing gyms. The best gym at the lowest price -- it's a no brainer. read more

I absolutely love CKO -- I recently joined. I had been kickboxing for a little less than 2 years and doing it in hotbox form (like hot yoga but hot kickboxing); so that was brutal. and making the transition to find anything remotely as challenging was hard, but! I found CKO and it's as perfect as it can be. I love the motivational things all around, the kick butt trainers (especially when the incorporate the whole gym, so its more than just the bags!) and how parking isnt that bad! which is almost a miracle considering its right off steinway. the ONLY suggestions/take backs are no showers (yet?) and water fountains (yet?)--i think once the gym gets these additions, I'd give it a 5. right now its a 4.5 for me. love. this. gym. read more

Joined CKO Astoria little over a month ago - i feel amazing. Membership is affordable and you can attend unlimited classes. I was very nervous to start and after one class felt right at home - could work at my own pace - but pushed gently by the trainers to push myself. Variety of Skilled Trainers - all offer positive energy and are incredible motivators. Always a different workout - never gets stale. And all trainers have kick butt playlists! It's a great time! My body is already changing - I have muscles! My weight is down. My mind is clearer and I sleep better. I wake up a little sore each day - and that's a great feeling (it really is!) The location is especially great for people who live in Manhattan & Bronx where there aren't any CKOs. I suggested two of my coworkers try it out - both joined! read more

4.5/5.0 stars Alright, this place needs a real, informative, Queen Elite style review. Want to know what you'll get from CKO Astoria for your first class? Great, read on! Need to know: +Bring boxing gloves, Muay Thai gloves, whatever you have. You will need them for class. If you don't have any, they sell them on the premises. You can't take class without them. +Oh my God bring water. Just bring all the waters. You're going to need it. +Sneakers are worn in class. I'm used to training barefoot, so I felt this was a point to note. +There are two unisex bathrooms, which are the only private areas you can change in. +There is no locker room, but a small section of space with about ~30 small square lockers. Bring your own lock. The Setup: CKO is like thousands of square feet. This is the largest space I've seen for a kickboxing gym, and I've been to many. It's rectangular, and down the middle, length-wise, are two rows of heavy bags. So. Many. Heavybags. They have more heavy bags than all the Modells and Sports Authorities in Astoria have in their stockroom, I think. But seriously, there's like 50. There is a small "gym" area which consists of 1 bench, 1 Roman chair (with pull-up attachment) and some free weights and plates. Quaint, but useful. Plus lots of jump ropes. The Introduction: First class? Great. An instructor will do a personal mini-lesson on how to throw a jab, cross, hook, and kick. That's all you need to know, they're the most basic building blocks of kickboxing. It takes just a few minutes, so show up early. The First Class: Started off with some minimal stretching, followed by jogging laps around the room, which were occasionally interrupted by switching up on cue a different movement. So, run run run SQUAT. Run run run PUSHUP. Etc. There's tons of cardio. Hell, the whole class is cardio. Scottie likes to do (half) pyramids, which means, you'll do 1 rep, then 2, then 3, etc. all the way up to 10. The other half a pyramid involves going back down, but thank goodness that didn't happen. I barely made it to 8. You'll definitely see a variety techniques. This is not one-dimensional. You'll do lots of punching combinations with jabs, crosses, hooks, and elbows. You'll be throwing Muay Thai style kicks, low and high, teep (forward thrust) kicks, knee strikes, side kicks, and crescent kicks. There's a learning curve with some of these moves if they're unfamiliar to you. Everything is constantly getting switched up on you in 10 or 20 second intervals. Doesn't sound like a long time? Then why did I want to throw up all over the place less than halfway through the class? I'm not a wuss and I've done hard work outs, but it's been awhile since I got my butt kicked this hard. You're never pushed to do anything you're uncomfortable with, but you are encouraged to try your best. If you need to modify or stop or drink water, you won't be bothered about it. The class ends with some Plyo-type work outs, focusing on core and whatnot. This includes crunches, leg raises, etc. You will not want to move for awhile when you're done. When class is over, grab a sanitizing wipe from the dispenser nearby and clean down the heavy bag you used. Don't be gross. Tuition: +1 year membership is $69/mo, plus a $50 enrollment fee. If you sign up when you go, the enrollment fee is cut in half, to $25. +There is an NYPD/FDNY discount for the 1 year - $10 off a month. +There is a month-to-month option for $99/mo, but done for an initial 3 month commitment. No enrollment fee. +I think there was a 6 month plan, but I kind of ignored it. It's something like $79/mo, no fee. +You can buy a 10 class package for $150 ($15/class) to use whenever. +If you cancel a 12 month commitment early, there is a $250 fee. +You will continue to be billed your current rate after your commitment period is over unless you cancel. *IMPORTANT* If you want to terminate your membership after your commitment period is over, you MUST give 30 days notice by certified letter to the gym. THIRTY DAYS. PAY ATTENTION. And don't get all angry when you didn't do that and still got billed, because now that's your fault. Extra Info: I will always, HIGHLY suggest handwraps. You can take class without them, but I can't stress enough how much they will protect your wrists and all tiny bones in your hands. Get the 180" ones, none of that 108" bullshit. Ask someone to teach you how to wrap up. The ONE time I didn't use hand wraps in the past, I sprained my wrist throwing a punch and couldn't use it properly for about 3-4 months. MONTHS. THAT'S A LONG TIME. USE WRAPS. I'M YELLING. The class is coed, but predominantly female. Everyone seems nice enough. You WILL burn a ton of calories. You get back whatever you put into it. -.5 star for anyone who wants constructive criticism on technique during class. But! There will be a pad-work class coming soon. That sounds awesome. read more
