CK Orchids is my new favorite local orchid source! Chris and Brandi are lovely people, accommodating, and knowledgable. They're open by appointment only. I contacted them last night about a Dark Star orchid. Brandi got back to me in less than five minutes, letting me know I could stop by that evening or any time during the day.
They just moved, the business is run out of a residential location, so their set-up is still a bit chaotic, and their inventory isn't massive at this time, but they have a wonderful selection of ground and epiphytic orchids of various sizes/prices. They do their own flasking and are happy to sell a variety of baby orchids. They also have some amazing rareties, which have now been added to my list!
Chris was waiting for me out front, and offered to bring out the plants I was interested in or show me around. While I arrived with the intention of just picking up the Dark Star, Chris was so kind, taking his time (about half an hour) to answer my questions, show me all his fragrant orchids, even offering photos of various plants in bloom when I was interested in something that wasn't currently blooming, I left with three baby potted orchids, a bare root chunk of a coconut orchid I was admiring, and a lovely little rex begonia, all for $30. Chris threw in the bareroot chunk and the begonia for free. I suspect he knew he had gained a loyal customer! This is why I love supporting smaller local businesses.
My experience with CK Orchids was truly a pleasure. I can't wait to go back. A must-visit seller whether you're just starting with orchids or are an avid collector.
Thank you, Chris and Brandi! read more
