I have a regular mechanic here on the Cape but I got caught between trips out of town and oil…read morechanges and called around. Everyone in or near Orleans was booked for at least three weeks, so I just decided to go down to Midas in person on a Monday morning of the week that I'm home. Manager Dave said they were booked out til August but he said to bring my car in (2011 Honda CRV with low mileage) the next day (Tuesday) and they'd squeeze me in. I got a call from Scott (the other manager @ 10 AM saying the car was ready, the engine looked good, but that there was mold and dirt and evidence of small critters under the hood (we live out in the woods and are aware that this is true), and he offered a foam cleaning service of the AC and lines, also a deterrent to future animal visits. I thought that sounded great so I gave the OK. When I picked the car up that afternoon, the bill was higher than I'd expected, but when I looked up the product that they added back at home, it seemed in line with what they did, with a reasonable profit to them worked in. But now the fan sounded like a rumbling airplane! Never heard that sound before, so I got back over there before closing and Scott said to bring the car back on Friday, they'd flush/clean out the lines one more time. Well, that's exactly what they did today, no extra charge (nor should there have been), they found/cleaned out a few more small acorn shells (!) causing the rumble, noise now gone, and I'm ready for my business trip tomorrow (Saturday) in upstate New York. This is a five star review for them making good on their service of a few days ago and doing what they said they'd do in time for me to keep to my schedule. This sure beats going to the quick change places which in my experience are notorious for upselling "things they find" when only asked to change the oil. Good neighbors!

It happens every year, like a finely tuned clock. Or the holidays, or even Opening Day at Fenway…read more Every year. Sadly, it's not as exciting as baseball... it is actually the bane of every car owner's existence: getting a new inspection sticker. You know it is due, you see the big number on your windshield and think "oh yeah, must do that today". Today turns into tomorrow, which turns into next week, and suddenly you are waiting on the last day of the month - which always seems to be a Saturday - and you and half the neighborhood are all wanting the same thing: a new inspection sticker. Not wanting to revisit this nightmare, I thought I would do the smart thing and go on a random Thursday almost as far away as I could get from a long line in Boston, and found myself at Lower Cape Auto. I called first for the hours - they don't do them between noon and 1pm - so go before or after lunch. Super nice guy, we chatted about how the RMV forced me to give up my beloved green license plate, and I had just screwed on those ugly red ones within the last 30 minutes, all so my car could pass inspection. Nice place, easy to find right on the southbound side of Route 6, and for $35 your car will be wearing a new sticker.

Franklin & Sam at Lower Cape Auto repair are REALLY GOOD PEOPLE!…read moreSam is an outstanding mechanic & they're honest & fair. Im out on the Cape vacationing & my car died, so AAA towed it there. Everyone else said it was my alternator, but they found that the starter shorted out. They fixed it the next day for a very reasonable amount, got me on the road again, so it didnt ruin my vacation. Really appreciate these guys. If you need auto repair, go see them!
