Distracted by forced deadlines, emphasis on speed rather than real craft and working for someone I could not respect, I was blindsided by bigotry while working on an exterior project at Don's residence. My soul's assailant: a large blackface lawn ornament laid out before me. Struck dumb by the hatred and bloody echoes eminating from the artifact, my heart revealed what my mind had veiled: Don's misogyny, his solicitation of skilled labor AND racism grew from a common source of evil no part of me would entertain much less assist.
