The office was clean and the staff were friendly. But, that was the extent of the good here. I was expecting the usual type of appointment: see the doctor about my teeth to check for cavities/overall oral health. And to get a thorough cleaning of my teeth (typically much better than I can do at home). The doctor was nice enough, probably spent about five minutes looking at my teeth. He scratched up the back of my teeth, and they feel rough and irritating. The 'dental hygienist' was horrible. She basically just placed the tooth paste/polish on my teeth (while spraying me in the eyes and face multiple times) and shoddily flossed my teeth. She tried to rinse my mouth out, after spending less time brushing my teeth than I do at home, and couldn't even properly use the water sprayer. I had to rinse my mouth out in the bathroom as there was so much grit left in my mouth. My teeth feel worse than when I got there. I am extremely dissatisfied with this dental office. Need another cleaning to fix what they did, would NOT recommend this office. read more

This is my first negative yelp review ever. As a new patient, I never felt welcomed at this place for the first meeting. I was not seen at my first appointment because they found I was pretty pregnant, which I understand. They gave me a medical form and ask me to go to my ob/gyn to sign. I mentioned I can provide my ob/gyn's office number and fax number so that we can get the form back quickly. But the front desk person refused to do so and insisted on having me drive to the office or scan and print and have my ob to print, sign, scan and email back. I had to initiate a call to my ob office and they picked up the phone quickly and was willing to quickly get the form faxed back, but they need the dental office's specific clear form. I asked the stuff to talk to my ob office on the specific form or items they need to clear, but she again rudely declined to talk to my ob office. I also found very uncomfortable when the dentist told me by turning half of his body on his way out that "I couldn't see you because you are pregnant" . They way he communicated with me made me feel I am so at fault for being pregnant and inconvenient. I could just never go back there, but due to location convenience as I live nearby, I decided to give them another chance. I had to cancel my third appointment and thereafter rescheduled the appointment because my last minute work meeting conflict; however, they told me on the phone that they will charge me 50 bucks for cancellation which I have never seen any written policy or being told before that I have to pay this cancellation. Completely unethical. I'm a surgeon (an MD), yet he tried to charge me several thousands of dollars for simply gluing in a bridge that I'd just recently had made (only a few weeks earlier by another dentist for $5K in another state). My prior dentist had put it in with temporary glue so I could test it out-- I only needed it glued in with permanent glue, that's all. Yet his shyster kept insisting I needed a NEW one made by him (for another $5.5K)! What?? I only went to this guy (CJ Dentistry) because he was close to my new home in DC Ranch. What a scammer! He's not worth his weight in salt, he's just desperate. I reported him to my insurance company. It's important to note that my wife just had her bridge permanently glued in by another dentist completely free of charge. Is it just this dentist, or are they all like this in Scottsdale? Yikes! This man is unethical... to the 10th power. Makes me feel uneasy about AZ, altogether. read more

Dr. Joh is the best dentist I have ever been to. He is highly skilled in both cosmetic and traditional dentistry, and I am glad I chose him. The first thing you notice about Dr. Joh is his chair-side manner. He is very gentle and attentive to your comfort. I have never felt so relaxed and at ease in a dentist's chair. Dr. Joh establishes a trust with his patients and you know he truly cares about your comfort and has your best interests at heart. A couple of the other reviewers have painted Dr. Joh as a dentist who takes advantage of his patients insurance or does unnecessary work. This is not the Dr. Joh I have come to trust and respect. I imagine there was either a misunderstanding, because Dr. Joh is as honest and trustworthy as they come. CJ Dentistry has a beautiful office in North Scottsdale and a very friendly staff. If you are looking for a dentist Dr. Joh is a great choice, especially if you are looking for a dentist with a kind chair-side manner and a skillful technique. read more

Iam very skeptical about this place dont let the beautiful atmosphere deceive you. I went in 10 days ago for a scheduled teeth cleaning. As a new patient they took xrays of my teeth I was told I had 6 cavities I need filled. I go to the dentist all the time and I take verry good care of my teeth this was a surprise to me I thought it was weird. I trusted the professionals to fix 3 of the cavaties it turns out 3 of the cavities barely showed on the xray almost like they wasnt there. They convinced me they were cavities that was below my previous 3 fillings so they took out my old cavity filling and refilled them. I was told they was only going to fix 3. The doctor continued to drill into my teeth to fix 3 more cavities that did not show on the xray at that time I trusted what he was doing. After the visit I was in extreme pain for 2 days its ben 10 days and the sharp pain in my teeth has not went away it hurts when I eat or bite my teeth together Ive never had this kind of pain ever before from my previous fillings. I still have 3 cavities in my mouth that need to be fixed but now Iam scared I do not trust any doctors to touch my teeth. I would not recommend this dr office to anyone. What was weird they kept mentioning you have really good health insurance now I wonder did they do that just to make money? For now on its best to go to phoenix mesa or Chandler this is the last time I will ever see a dr in Scottsdale. read more

Not too happy about this place. They said it would be $100 for a checkup. Well, I say okay and I'm about to pay $100 - but then they say: "oh we want to help you. you should pay $150 instead because if you need a procedure, you'll get 20% off." The only thing that a patient is going to think is: "well if I look like a stinge, they'll give me crummy care, so I better just pay them what they want." So I accepted. And they said I need a cleaning. But the amount I paid won't count towards it. Because its a "special cleaning" that I need. I try to clarify, and I'm told that the $150 I paid doesn't go towards special cleanings, only normal cleanings. They say "we could lose our license if we only give you a normal cleaning." Which is a total farse. Because they didn't even take full mouth x-rays. They took x-rays of 3 teeth!! Just where I thought I might have a cavity. If they really cared, as they try to say they did, they would have done full mouth x-rays regardless. It's really frustrating to have a dentists' office pressure you into some weird upsale with special rules and conditions. The last person you want to be a salesman is your dentist's office. Very frustrated that I am out $150 and they only took x-rays of 3 teeth instead of my whole mouth, and then say that the extra amount that they pretty much gouged me into paying, isn't valid for the extra treatment that I happened to need. Stay away from this place. I thought about calling them up to try to straighten things out - but once you have billing issues with a provider, you really don't want to haggle and go back - because you don't want to have a doctor who dislikes you, working on your body. Sorry CJ Dentistry, I really had high hopes. But your prices are ridiculously high, and the blatant hoops you are throwing patients into is really poor taste for what should be a professional and clear setting. On the upside, Dr Joh seems like a good dentist, and is warm and personable. It isn't exactly clear whether the secretary/hygeniest Neva is the one who is setting these policies or Dr Joh is. But one has to review the entire process, not just the dentist. So my review stands read more

I have always been so scared of dentists until I met Dr. Joh. My tooth was in pain and he took care of it right away. He was so gentle and I didn't feel a thing. The entire staff are so friendly and kind. I will def be coming back and referring all my friends and family. read more

The office is new but always clean! Dr. Joh takes his time with each patient and explains things so they understand. Words cannot explain how great the staff at cj dentistry are. Dr joh and his staff put you at ease and takes the time to understand your anxiety and apprehension. they know every trick in the book to make the appointment extremely enjoyable. and what i loved most is he speaks to you in terms you understand, not overly "clinical". Dr Joh has such a warm personality and vast knowledge it is impossible not to enjoy your time with him. Even with his busy schedule he makes sure to be very thorough with your exam and takes the time to get to know you. He and his staff take the time to find a way to accommodate you as soon as possible. The assistants are knowledgeable and keep the appointment going smooth and help get you in and out on time. The entire staff takes their time to explain procedures, insurance coverage, billing statements and work their hardest to help you get the most out of your appointment. They are happy to show you many different options to meet your financial means. This dental office clearly has one concern and that is the health of your mouth! without question, I would recommend to all friends and family! this new, beautiful office is just the addition this plaza needed. very convenient. scheduling is never a problem and they truly work around your needs.
