Completed carport with a door installed, looks fantastic!
    Dave O.

When one is looking for a home improvement project there are so many things to consider. Whether your project is massive, or a small little weekend project, feeling good about the contractor you choose is vital. Does he give you a comfortable, confident feeling in his ability? Is the price right? Will he treat your project as a priority regardless of the size of it? I asked myself all of these questions and more when looking for a contractor for our project. We had just bought a - new to us - home and loved it; however, it wasn't quite right. It needed just a few additions to complete our desires. Though it had a two-car garage, it still needed a carport off to the side and a door placed in the side of the garage for easy access. In addition, we wanted to expand the rear patio and cover another 20' or so. So the hunt was on for a contractor who could facilitate our needs at a fair price. After perusing several online outlets that listed the various contractors, and having several swing by the house to provide a bid, I met Carl. I immediately felt a pretty good vibe from him. He was cool, down to Earth, listened and could envision what I wanted. Within one day he got back to me with a price that was in line with other contractors' bids. So, since his price was fair and I had confidence in the work to be done, I hired him. Within about a week the work began, and like a lot of homeowners, I probably annoyed him a bit with last minute additions/changes. Carl was great, he reacted and adjusted on the fly! He went above and beyond, putting me at ease with all of my concerns and just made the whole process stress free. The end result was/is awesome! The work was completed in a timely manner, and the quality of the work was top notch! In reality our project was very small compared to some of the construction projects Carl completes, nevertheless, he made us feel like ours was just as important as any other on a grander scale. Whether large or small, I know I'll reach out to Carl in the future if we need something done around the house, and you should too.

Baseboard was up to me, but this vent is apparently "properly installed" after completion of the floor.

Jordan Pacheco, the Co-owner wrote himself a 5-star review on 11/29/15, and he likely had friends and employees do the same. LOL (screenshot in photos) CJ&J "installed" 1000sf of tile floor at my residence, with a project total of approximately $11,500 with an additional $3700 in tile. They were hired to complete tile flooring, open a wall and install a beam, and misc drywall work. (They did not pull permits for the electrical work in the wall, or have it inspected.) The project began the week after Thanksgiving 2018. From the start, their schedule was erratic, and subcontractors rarely showed up on the promised date. They made a huge mess as they didn't hang plastic sheeting per their contract to keep dust down. Additionally, grout and tile mastic was splattered on walls, trim and doors (see photos), and baseboard was removed without scoring the caulk which took paint off the walls so now we'll be repainting too. "Ridiculously bad" best describes their tile installation. They began by installing the wrong color grout stating that they "matched it online" despite repeated requests to use correct brand/color. If you've been doing this type of work for any amount of time at all, you know color is not consistent on a computer monitor. This was corrected, but not by taking up the old grout of the wrong color, but by spreading a thin layer of the new color over the top, now grout is lapping the surface of the tile leaving a sloppy appearance. There are uneven tiles with ends that protrude above others, low spots, and wide variation in the level and width of the grout lines. Some grout lines are up to 1/4" wide, while others are as narrow as 1/16" and the appearance is irregular. They did not use, or request we provide tile spacers or levelers. They attempted to "fix" high, sharp corners on the tile by simply removing the grout and grinding off the corner of the tile. (although they did eventually fix this, the result was no better.) There were gaps in the grout, and despite repeated attempts to correct it, they either did so poorly, or missed spots. In fairness, many of the gaps in the photos below were fixed, but the grout then looked high and blobbed-on in those spots. They also replaced tile in certain spots, but replaced them improperly, short of the other tiles, and cut them with a hand grinder, which I witnessed personally, rather than the proper tools such as a wet saw, leaving jagged edges. CJ&J was given 4-5 opportunities to correct the problem and did not. They actually made the situation worse by installing poorly measured and cut tile. Some gaps were fixed, some were missed. Jordan Pacheco, the son of the license holder Carl Pacheco License #371770, and an employee of the company, was the contact person for the project and made repeated excuses for the installation job, citing tile that was warped, an irregular floor, and the customers "expectation of perfection," for our dissatisfaction with the project. He actually said this... "You're expecting perfection." See the photos and judge for yourself how close we are to "perfection." At no point during the installation did CJ&J indicate that the tile was defective in any way, and only blamed this after the job was finished. He also indicated to me that the floor was not leveled with leveling compound which by all reasonable measures is part of ANY tile installation project. CJ&J was aware of the condition of the floors, and never mentioned leveling was not included till the tile was in. It was never discussed at any point prior. It was only when the job was complete and issues arose did CJ&J begin making excuses for the sloppy work by blaming the tile and the condition of the floor. They were in over their heads from the start, and the professional thing to do would have been to decline the work and refer it to a professional tile installer. At one point, both Jordan, Carl, and the tile subcontractor, Kelly, showed up to evaluate the tile work and when inspected even the tile subcontractor Kelly stated "My guys did a crap job," apologized, and sent "his guys" to attempt to fix it, but never showed up himself again. Several other contractors have visited for additional remodeling bids, and ALL agreed that the tile work was well below sub-par. We now have to hire another company to repair the shoddy work... which they refused to give a credit for, only forgave a $500 balance due for extra tile they bought that they likely didn't need as we bought 10% extra. Don't be taken in by a slick website, self-reviews, "we do million dollar jobs" and "we want to be sure our customers are happy." They talk the talk, but clearly can't walk the walk... and they review themselves on Yelp (and likely elsewhere.) The photos speak for themselves. Run away like your hair is on fire. The issues in the photos ARE NOT resolved which is why this review was posted. https://photos.app.goo.gl/xUPGJwTgBU79q71bA

    Old Walls In-Place
    Tim F.

Like many other people with older homes, we started with a vision and desire to take down walls for an open-concept living area; removing two walls that separated our old formal dining room from an adjacent hallway and living room. Our biggest concern was assuming that we would be stuck with leaving behind an oddly placed support post. The project would also involve new lighting, extensive electrical work, floor tile, painting, cabinet work, and completely re-facing our 3-way fireplace. I began the process of getting several bids, and fortunately had CJ&J Construction provide one of those bids. As I had expected, every other contractor told me that we would need the support post that would seriously detract from the whole "open-concept" feel. To my pleasant surprise, within minutes of evaluating the job, Carl quickly realized that we would not have to leave behind a support post, and that they could simply tie into an existing post from a nearby wall to the adjacent garage. This secured my trust in their capability to do the job well and correctly, as every other contractor had totally missed or chose not to offer that answer to our dilemma. While evaluating the job to be done, Carl, Jordan, and John took the time to completely understand what we wanted, offer suggestions, and explain how they would make our vision a reality. After receiving all bids, I was surprised and happy to have gotten one of the most competitive bids from CJ&J Construction. During the course of our entire project, Jordan, John, and Carl always kept us involved and apprised of any developments, asked for our input when anything presented various options, and answered any questions or concerns we had. Carl even took the personal time to actually go with me to choose flagstone for part of the fireplace! They and their team always kept the work areas safe and clean, and were always sure to clean up at the end of every single workday; even if I told them not to worry about it. There were even numerous days that they chose to work late, just to ensure that our own deadline requests were met. At the end of the whole project, my family and I could not be happier. What a dramatic and incredible improvement to our home! Two new hidden beams, but no posts or walls! As you can see from the attached photos, the transformation was absolutely stunning. I had intended to post a glowing review for CJ&J Construction shortly after the job was done, but due to some very difficult events, I'm just now getting it done. It has now been more than 10 months since the completion of our renovation, and we are still so happy with the results, and the decision to have had Carl, Jordan, John, and the rest of their team take on the job. When we get around to doing our kitchen and/or bathroom(s), CJ&J Construction will definitely be at the top of my list of companies to bid on the job.

All readers of this should know that this company solicits reviews from friends and family. The owner recently had a review he left for himself removed by yelp. Since they got negative feedback at the end of Jan '19, they suddenly have 3 more 5-star reviews within a few days, one of which is a phony review from his wife. They also disabled photos in the review section, forcing customers to upload photos to the main page, which they can then delete. Yes, my husband left a review on 1/29/19, but I felt the need to add photos with the newspaper and date to show that the owners outright lying about the issues being fixed. Anyway, about the business: Disappointing and disastrous! If you are thinking of remodeling or having work done to your home please think twice. You will waste time and money, and end up with something that looks worse than before you started. We recently had them do tile. The project was a disaster from start to finish... and although Carl Pacheco, the owner, claims that the problems posted here were resolved, they ABSOLUTELY were not. He claims this in a response on January 26th... see the photos. It's not that they didn't try to fix the problems because they did. They actually came out 4-5 times to try and "fix" the problems, but each time they got worse and it was obvious they were way in over their heads and had no idea what they were doing. The pictures speak for themselves. I never once saw a tile spacer used causing grout lines to vary wildly in width. Some tiles are practically touching and others are a full 1/4" apart. They didn't level the floors (which we would have paid for if was not included in the bid, which they said it was) causing some edges of tile to appear almost buried in the grout, and the opposite end protruding and very sharp. They didn't use a wet saw to cut the tile properly, causing very jagged, uneven edges. The grout is literally globbed on in certain areas and covers the tile, and other areas are deficient in grout and looks way too low giving it a very uneven appearance. Even the grout color is different and very noticeable because of having to come out and replace the grout so many times. It looks like someone took a highlighter to certain tiles it is so dark compared to the others. The grout is already crumbling due to not being mixed properly. They also started tiling in the wrong spots. They began in the far corners of rooms, leaving all the cut ends, and short tiles right were its visible in the main parts of the house. Clearly not uniform with the rest of the long tiles. Some of the tiles are sloped and canted. There were numerous RAISED, SHARP corners I'm afraid my 18 month old will cut his feet or trip over them! The forced air vents back into place bending them, left haze everywhere, grout mixture on the woodwork, and hardly cleaned up after themselves at all. No attempt was made to even do a half way decent job. Jordan Pacheco actually told us we "expected perfection," and your damn right I do when I am paying thousands of dollars to have "professionals" do the work! See the phots and judge for yourself if this is a professional tile installation. So, please beware of this company. They are not honest, do sub par work and have no problem taking your money for it! This review is not written out of malice, but dissatisfaction with the work and the company's refusal to address it. The business was paid IN FULL and refused to return a requested $2000 credit for shoddy work, thus under no circumstances will this review be removed. The $2000 is what we will have to pay another tiler to fix the problems they created.

Bottom line: do not make a MISTAKE and hire this man; and you'll spend EXTRA $$$$ fixing his…read moremistakes - avoid this businesss! I had high hopes about handyman Isaac Aguilar. I saw his ad on craigslist and gave him a call (i will attach the business' craiglist ad to the bottom of this review). He was friendly on the phone and told me about his work experience. My family hired him (we deeply regret it everyday because we have to look at the shoddy work he left us). We hired him to xeriscape our front yard and put tile in our family's small restoom where we had vinyl and he DESTROYED our front yard and ruined our restroom. My family's front yard looks like it was done by a 5 year old and our restroom looks like he put the tile on in the dark. Worst Offensives by this business: 1. complaining about how poor he is; and his constant demands to be paid early 2. disorganization: he constantly leaves his work site because he FORGETS to bring the tools he needs (when asked, Isaac will even tell you that he forgot to bring items because he was up late and was rushing over) 3. no RESPECT for your home or neighborhood: for example, he will (try) to park wherever (he ran over my neighbor's from lawn and garden); 4. no respect for his family: Isaac WILL bring his family to YOUR home while he does his shoddy work; he will treat his family poorly in front of you - it is very unconformable to watch. 5. This business THINKS that doing 75% of a job means that the work is done. This business leaves work before the job is complete. And when you mention this to him, he kills time until he decides to leave. ------- Again, I had high hopes for Isaac Aguilar Handyman. Especially since his ad said he has an architectural degree and 15 years of experience. WATCH OUT and Identify this Business: The business utilizes a white Nissan Sentra (missing the rear bumper), and a dark silver/gray Nissan Armada. Another way to identify Isaac and this business is he TALKS A LOT, and he will rudely (try) get into your home conversations instead of work. He told my family that he's from Las Vegas, New Mexico, that his dad is a contractor, he's an outdoors man, he has an architectural degree (I highly doubt this), he's worked for a millionaire woman, and other bizarre and uncomfortable things. Isaac Aguilar/business owner is between 30-35, with an average build. Another way to identify Isaac is that he likes to brag about the handyman work he does with photos and videos made by his wife Sofia. (I highly doubt the photos/videos he shows are of his TRUE work). ------ Craigslist Ad Below----- Get the job done right the first time. Work guaranteed! Very trustworthy and I make sure and get the job done every time. Have tons of experience and will make sure that you are calling, wanting more work done! Very hard worker. Handyman Services 15 years experience Architectural Degree Most experience: Remodel 3 Year Commercial Electrical Apprentice Plumbing: snake main line , I fix copper lines, install new faucets, vanities, etc. Flooring: most experience laminate, tile, ceramic, back splash, new bathroom tile.
