This place is my go to when I have visitors in town. Not only do you have lots of choices to eat, you have a beautiful setting of gardens and the Denver skyline and some great Denver vibes. There are plenty of tables with umbrellas, but I prefer to bring a blanket and park it under a tree. People watching is one of my favorite pastimes and this is a great place to do it. Be sure to check out all the stunning art and architecture around the park. My suggestion to handle the food trucks is to get several things to share (I know, difficult if you're alone). Nice place to sit outside and be able to buy lunch. Love food trucks but sometimes they're a little expensive. We come here now and then during our lunch for something different. There's usually music in the form of musicians or the trucks play music so it's a nice atmosphere. If you come early there's not as many people and you can find a seat. They are passionate about recycling and now there are only receptacles which make you separate your trash and really think about which are recyclable and which are not. The food trucks change depending on the day so make sure to check online before heading down if you really crave a particular food. Most places take credit cards but bring cash in case. read more

I actually just starting working downtown last month and when I found out that I could get all my food truck needs filled every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch I was positively ecstatic! The place is hopping and it is a good idea to go early (11a) or later (1p), but that is anyplace downtown! They have tables set up, but they fill up really fast. That is my one complaint. Sure I can sit in the grass or walk back to work, but I want just plunk at a table and eat! The cupcake truck is only there on Tuesdays (if you need a fix), but most of the more popular trucks (Steuben's, Biscuit Bus, etc..) are there both days. Some trucks even set up M W F, but those are random. At any rate, it has livened up Civic Center (in a good way) and given us downtown day dwellers a new spot to sample lots of different trucks in one spot! I love it! And since it lasts through September I can try all the trucks on my lunch hour if I want! read more

I am officially jealous of Denver. A bunch of food trucks, tons of people and amazing food, with music, frisbee tossing, right in the middle of Downtown and in the middle of the day. I would have thought this was just a weekend special event but no it every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch for a few months during the summer. FINALLY, managed to squeeze Hubs busy schedule, and convinced him to go with me for Lunch at Civic Center Eats on Tuesday September 13th 2012. Managed to get a metered parking spot nearby to this vicinity. Time was about 11:20hrs ish. From the Civic Center Eats website, during the Summer, they allocate Tuesdays and Thursdays Food Trucks Vendors for the LUNCH crowd. There are several food trucks available that day in which, I wish they could have more. At the premises, several eating areas are available, though I wish they could provide more. There is also a "portable" ATM machine in case you need it. All in all, I like the idea, but so wish they could provide more FOOD TRUCKs variety and it would be nice to open this concept NOT ONLY during the Summer season, but throughout the year. Do you remember that old commercial whose theme was, "It's a lot of places, in one place"? For some reason I'm drawing a blank on which business was being referenced, but no matter - the very same thing can be said of Civic Center Eats downtown. "A crapton of food trucks in one location? Three days a week? Well, sign me the hell up!", I remember thinking when I first heard about CCE, but it took me ages to actually get down there. But once I finally did, I discovered (OMG) that each day features at least 20 trucks! Since I'm not a cow, I knew I'd have to save stomach space as much as humanly possible. On my first visit, I sampled some 5-way Cincinnati-style chili from Nati Dogs (the "ways" are the components of the meal - in this case, the chili (1) is served over spaghetti (2) then topped with cheese (3), onions (4) and beans (5)). Mmmm! Then I had a veggie combo (Misir Wot (spicy red lentils) and Ye-Kik Alicha (yellow split pea stew) and, in my case, also a little Gomen be-Dinich (greens and potatoes)) with the crepe-like bread Injera and a tasty beef Sambusa (turnover) from - where else? The Ethiopian Food Truck. Once I had fully consumed all that deliciousness, my first thought (after a prolonged belch) was that I was definitely going to have to return at some point. The next day (!) there I was again scoping out the (almost totally different) lineup. I'd heard great things about J Street, whose menu swaps cuisines every month. And indeed, I was not remotely disappointed with the offerings I sampled - namely, shredded and sizzled Brussels sprouts and plantain bits in an orange-y Cuban-style marinade (Mojo) and a hearty chicken and veggie curry over rice (inspired by the cuisine of Trinidad & Tobago). But because I love y'all, I *also* tried some Polish pleasures from Pierogies Factory. After some pork and potato/cheese Pierogi (dumplings) plus Gołąbki (pork-stuffed cabbage roll in tomato sauce), I knew many more visits to CCE were in the cards for me - and I'm betting you'll feel the same. read more

Food trucks get me excited. Really excited. I don't know why food eaten out of the side of a truck has become my thing but it has. Perhaps I feel it offers an edgier food experience. Perhaps it's that I don't like to wait at a brick and mortar restaurant for food. Perhaps I love reaching up to get a little cardboard carton filled with what I am certain will be a life changing food experience. On this particular day that I came, I went with an arepa food truck. The arepa was so hot that I literally could not hold it in my hands. After playing hot potato with my food enough that it cooled off to a little less than hot lava, I dug in. The arepa itself was light and fluffy, but the filling was a bit mundane. Regardless, the idea of so many food trucks congregating in one area, is my little idea of heaven. I loved it and will get here as often as I can. The only issue is parking which was not easy to find. read more

Civic Center Eats is the perfect way to spend a Tuesday or Thursday lunch in my opinion. There is a wide variety of trucks - the last time I was there I saw at least a dozen including The Biscuit Bus, Manna from Heaven, The Crock Spot, Pinche Tacos, Mikes2Kitchen, Mythos Gourmet Greek, Cream City Treats, and Route 40 Argentinian. And those are just the ones I can remember. Another bonus is that many of the trucks are accepting credit/debit cards these days through fancy iPhone technology. And there is an ATM on site in case you need cash. There is a ton of seating - at shaded tables or just in the grass around and eating outdoors on our beautiful summer days makes me happier all around. There is also usually some sort of live entertainment. The last time I was there a band called Pearl for Breakfast was playing and they were awesome. It's 3 guys with guitars playing cover songs and they played everything from Otis Redding to Death Cab to Biz Markie. Yes, they played "Just a Friend" and I loved every minute of it. I think it's great that you can go to one place and have so many options for lunch - it makes eating with a group a little easier. Plus most things are under $10 which is a great deal for lunch. I read about Civic Center Eats before visiting Denver and knew I had to check it out. My boyfriend and I got there around noon on a Wednesday so I was expecting long lines. Fortunately there are so many trucks (20 or so) that long lines weren't a problem for us! I got a burrito from a potato truck and my boyfriend got a grilled cheese from a different truck. It was super hot and sunny out, but there are shady areas in the park as well as umbrellas in the courtyard area. Most of the trucks we saw accept credit cards, but having some cash on hand might be a good idea. Also, bring your own water bottles since water was $2 or more at each truck. I love meeting my mom for lunch when our schedules allow, mainly because I get to see her (of course) but also because in the summer we get to check out all the food truck fare! It seems they've added more seating, there are umbrellas over on south steps using more shade than I remember from before. And it seems more vendors have joined the crowd. They're there pretty much every Tuesday & Thursday during the summer, though some trucks are only Tuesdays, others only Thursdays. And while more trucks are accepting credit cards, it's good to have cash just in case. Today we went to the Rolling Italian. Pretty good eggplant sandwich & expected prices ($8 sandwich, $2 can of soda). I forgot my research from last night & well have to check out the Nola cuisine next time around... though the Hey pb&j sandwiches looked pretty great too... as did the menu for pretty much every truck we passed. So much variety and entertainment jam packed into Civic Center Park. Nothing says summertime quite like Civic Center Eats. Nowadays, it runs every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. More days, more selection. Food trucks upon food trucks, smattered with live entertainment, swag booths, and lovely locals grubbing on Denver nourishment. Some trucks are there on multiple days, and some like to only endulge us once a week. Not a problem because you could probably go at least once a week and STILL try out something different each time. As expected, it gets pretty busy at the normal lunch hour (12-1 PM), so you may want to go earlier or later so that you don't have to wait in the long lines. Although, I will say that even though the lines are long, they typically move pretty quickly. Seating can be limited (there are a few chairs and things set up, but they go fast), so you may have to sit in the grass or on a park bench in order to enjoy your lunch. If you see an empty table, RUN as if your life depended on it. Trust me. Speed of lightning fast is how fast these tables go. Bonus for most of the trucks being able to take credit cards, but it doesn't hurt to take a little cash with you just in case. I wish it went on throughout the year (Denver winters aren't so bad), but maybe it's good to build up for the summers. Don't want to get too spoiled. read more

Food trucks galore!! This place is great if you want variety and options. It does take time to walk around and decide what you want to eat, but it's well worth it. I went with my co-workers and decided to share items with one of my co-workers so that we can try multiple things. She ordered a lobster roll and I got a mushroom crepe. The lobster roll was so delicious and fresh. They added some lemon juice to it to really make the flavor stand out. The mushroom crepe was also very good and had a great mix of cheeses. We ended with some Aiko popsicles (the avocado flavor). I can't wait to go back and try some other trucks! Note: Just fyi, be careful when you sit on the chairs in the middle area of the food trucks. Not only is it just delicious, but it's one of those events that makes my heart swell with pride to see so many people come out and support small, local businesses in the heart of their fair city. Additionally, there is potential for me being a better indoor diner over a food truck gal. ;0) Because of this, Civic Center EATS still deserves a high rating as it does offer a wide variety of food and beverage at a well-executed event in the park! Just a couple things to note before heading to Civic Center EATS on a Tuesday or Thursday... 1) Bring extra time with you. Be prepared to wait in line. The lines are long at every truck you have your heart set on. Food trucks are only so equipped for this many people too. You will wait to order your food and wait for your food. 2) I hope you're not embarrassed sporting an umbrella on a sunny day. Whether you're in line, waiting for your order to be made, or enjoying your meal - you will find there is little to no shade at this event. 3) BBQ, Crepes, More BBQ and Tacos. Civic Center EATS does have a nice variety, but more so variety within similar cuisine. Where is the naan or tapas or mac & cheese? Beats me. 4) Bring your wallet with you too. I was quite shocked at the prices I saw for a simple sandwich or individual taco. And that was on paper! I was more shocked to see what you got for the prices advertised. 5) Consider your standing game on point if you want to enjoy the event. There is minimal seating in the park amidst the food trucks. Of course you can venture into the park itself, but be aware of the campers that Denver knows all too well. Overall, it really is a great experience in the heart of Downtown Denver. I will give it to the Crepe place for the best truck! I loved their take on a fire truck. So cute! Although, the crepes didn't include that much filling and were slightly falling apart, the truck itself made up for this! They also offer seating on the top level but on a sunny day, the metal from the fire truck may or may not bring the sun's attention to you... We also had three tacos from one of the taco places... but each taco was like $7, they were small and lacking cheese, and it took 18 minutes for three tacos. That averages six minutes a taco! Everyone should try this once - but come with a bit more patience than I did! :) read more

LOVE Civic Center Eats!! It's such a pleasantly refreshing concept! Can't wait for spring to come back around so that we can enjoy the plethora of food trucks that parks here. My only complaints are the lack of available seating in the immediate area (it's there, it just fills up pretty quickly during the "on" months), and the lack of diversity in the choices of food. If you go often enough, you'll pretty much see the same trucks there over and over. It'd be nice if they could either make the weekly event bigger, or switch out vendors more often. read more

They even have live music- today was bluegrass! Both of the places we picked accepted credit cards, which is a huge plus (but I don't know about the others). Where did summer go? I already miss my lunches in Civic Center park, surrounded by food trucks, music and other hungry downtowners. Every Tuesday and Thursday they were all there waiting for me, and as often as I could I'd go join them for a meal and an escape from the office to a little outdoor, summertime fun. The food truck selection here cannot be beat. There were always more than a dozen food trucks, serving pizza, burgers, chili, biscuits, BBQs, tacos and wraps. You could choose from American, Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek, Mexican, Venezuelan and other cuisines. There was so much variety that the choice was often the hardest thing you'd do all day. After lunch you could get some ice cream, frozen yogurt or even sometimes a cupcake or mini-pie. The variety available was fantastic. Come early, or face a line - especially for the more popular vendors (Pinche Tacos... I'm looking at you.) No worries, though, since lines move fast and you could enjoy the wonderful people watching and take in a little live music while you wait. As much as I would like to take a cheap shot at hipsters, I have to admit that I really am quite fond of food trucks. All summer long I kept listening to my little sis talk about Civic Center Eats. Unfortunately, I was not able to hit up Civic Center until this past Thursday, the last day of Civic Center Eats for the Summer. Not really knowing what to expect I was quite pleased with the outstanding selection of food truck options. There were a number of tables at which to sit, but Civic Center Park is also full of benches and steps which equally serve as a great location for a quick lunch. I had an awesome sandwich from the Vietnamese Manna from Heaven truck, and was also fortunate enough to eat half of my mom's lunch from The Crock Spot (which was also very good). I may try to find a job downtown so that next summer I will be close to Civic Center Eats. read more

Civic Center Eats is something I look forward to every summer. There is a wide variety of food types there, a little something for everyone. I go several times each summer and try to go to a different food truck each visit. Crock Spot and Queiro Arepas are two of my favorites. They are very friendly and as a bonus, Crock Spot offers free samples. The arepas at Quiero Arepas are quite large and come in a variety of types. My personal favorite is the Pabellon, which has shredded beef, beans, cheese, and plantains. Delicious. There is live music each week, although it can be difficult to hear if you sit near a truck with a loud generator. Tables are a hot commodity, especially those with an umbrella. Because of the crowds, this is not the best place for those in a time crunch as many of the more popular trucks have long lines. If you are fortunate enough to work downtown or can make it downtown on a Tuesday or Thursday, I would recommend giving Civic Center Eats. Such a cute place. I was starving when I arrived in Denver and immediately came here. Lots of food trucks to choose from - I did a circle and a half around all of them just trying to make a decision. I can see myself eating here a lot if I worked in the neighborhood. A good amount of seating but some tables don't have umbrellas. If you go past the entrance, some folks were sitting by the steps of the park. Although the number can vary depending on the vendors that show up, I've never seen less than 20 there at a given time. You'll be able to find something to please everyone's tastebuds even if people are vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free/whatevs. Sure, some carts are better than others, but the beauty lies in the fact that you can go to another cart and probably find something even better. Yesterday (6/11/13), for example, I got to be a gluttonous piggy with the chicken and waffles from PinkTank, which were delicious and decadent. Needing to cleanse my palate (and probably my arteries), I stopped by Green Giraffe for an awesome Leanergizer green juice with wheatgrass, lemon, green apple, kale, and other healthy ish. Amazing! I always make sure to get there around 11 when it opens because seating is pretty limited, lines can get very long during peak lunch hour, and some of the top selling dishes sell out fast.
