I went here on a weekday- careful they are closed a certain day- Sunday I believe! People wrote about it being very busy. I went just an hour or so after opening and didn't have a real problem. But this was in the end of November, on a weekday and early in the morning. As I was getting in line, it did start to fill up and you had to wait to be able to go down an isle. People were filling up their carts like crazy. There is SO much in this store, I am serious when I say bring a list. Even if you do bring a list, you will find other products that maybe one of the staff members can suggest for you. They were very very helpful, taking me around the store to talk about different products. I got plenty for myself and a couple of mini things (travel size) as gifts for friends- which they loved! The most expensive thing I bought was around 35 euros. But it is a huge container of lotion. I'm loving it so far. I stocked up on things that I knew were more expensive here in the states- a couple of dry shampoos that I love and things that I knew I wouldn't be able to buy unless I special ordered (and then you pay for shipping). I grabbed about three different face washes that were really well priced 12 or so euro! My mom picked one up as well. Then they had a bunch of different types of masks, which I love doing masks. I haven't tried those yet. The lines took a while, but it was worth it. I spent 175 euros in total for about 17 or so different things. You can do much much worse in a place like this. If they are products that you're going to use and they are going to last, things like chapsticks and what not were greatly priced. Shopping here at this pharmacy is different then any of the other pharmacies in Paris. The lady standing behind me was clearly a local and we got to chatting, she said she only shops their for her products, because they are 15-20% cheaper than the other places around the city. Wow! What a find. I only had 15 mins to spend in there, but I still walked out with $200 worth of stuff. Now to figure out how to bring it back to the states and avoiding excess weight charge... They don't take American Express as another Yelper mentioned. I tried to use my Visa but it declined twice. I was pissed at my CC company for being so strict about security, and had to walk around trying to exchange USD but no Places were open. Eventually I went back again to ask her to try my cc again, and she had to ring everything again. Still declined. However, I insisted that they keep trying and it turned out that it was their CC pad that was not working. They used another cc processing pad and it worked fine! read more

This should be on every girl's shopping checklist for Paris. My suggestions: 1) Research the products you want and have photos. Almost nothing is written in English in this store. I wouldn't bother asking store clerks. They're too busy. 2) Go early. In fact, go just before the store opens. I was there 10 min before opening and there were already 20 people there. I think City Pharma has the biggest and cheapest selection of french skin/beauty products compared to any other pharmacies in Paris. So as you can imagine, City Pharma feels like it's on a perpetual Black Friday event; it's incredibly crowded and claustrophobic. You'll jab and push to get yourself through one aisle before venturing off to another. And since the selection is so extensive, you can easily spend an hour getting lost in the aisles and aisles of beauty products. So to save time, do your homework and come prepared. 1. Have a list of products you want to buy, ready in hand 2. Grab a basket at the entrance, you'll need it 3. Find an employee (there are plenty) and ask where each product is. WORST SHOPPING EXPERIENCE. DO NOT GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE INTIMIDATED My best friend and I were traveling to Paris and originally wanted to visit City-Pharma for its wide range of skincare products. Instead, we were eyed by the security guard as soon as we came in. I felt so uncomfortable so we headed to the aisles and started putting items on our list into the basket. However, I realized I needed to come back later since I forgot my passport at home. Usually there's two sales associates overseeing or helping French speaking customers for every aisle, but they were all busy so I tried to put as much back as I can with the security guard watching before leaving the basket by another tower of baskets. As soon as we tried to exit, the security guard gestured us to open our brown bag with Paris-Brests and a bottle of water. Somehow he pulled out an travel size Avene product (valued at 4€). We quickly asked for an English speaker and that we didn't do it while the security guard made a scene of accusing us in French of shoplifting that caught the attention of every patron and staff around us. An older French woman decided to translate what she said and when we told her that we want to tell them we didn't do it because we didn't buy anything related to that product and we're coming back later. In addition, it must've fallen when patrons were going through tight aisles or grabbing a neighboring item when my friend put our open paper bag down, the woman gave us a stern look and said that it was clearly in our bag and we stole it. FINALLY an English speaking staff member was brought, listened to us without being so blatantly biased in her convictions and they gave us two options : they can check the security footage and it will clarify what happened. If we get caught, they'll report us to the police. If we didn't do anything, they let us go. The second option was buying it. We first asked them to look at the security footage so some staff ran off to access it. The security guard kept trying to gesture and articulate for us to buy it and that we stole it. That intimidated my best friend because she was starting to get neck pains and worried she'd have an epileptic seizure so she had rather purchase it instead. When that was translated, he rushed to have us expedited to the cashier. Then he had the cashier ask for our passports! We asked why and the woman said it's for purchases and I said it doesn't make sense since we don't have a vat refund request. The cashier translated what we said and the guard said we can't leave unless we bought it so I brought out my paper copy of my passport. The guard tried to take it and memorize it, before the cashier translated he wanted to make a copy for their records. I got upset and refused because I tried cooperating, but I'm within my rights to refuse because we didn't do anything and I don't feel comfortable sharing my personal information with a civilian who can share or misconstrue this whole predicament to law enforcement or customs. So I told him that I won't share it unless there is evidence we had a crime and the police requested it. I inquired about the security footage and the cashier translated that they had "no access to the security camera footage". So I said, " there's no reason for you to incriminate or further hold us. Not only that, but you've have no further contact with the employee who checked the security footage or any other staff for the timeframe thus far. How did you arrive to that conclusion? " Then he told us to just pay and leave. My best friend paid and he motioned for us to get out immediately. Listen, I've traveled all over the world and both my best friends and I have experienced all sorts of uncomfortable circumstances/microagressions because of our race (me being Chinese American and my friend being Hispanic American). I try to do my due diligence in avoiding crowded areas whenever possible, observing local laws and etiquette. I've never committed a crime in my entire life and the fact that the staff here would resort to infringing upon basic rights of an individual, intent to deceive with false information and verbal intimidation towards non-locals, this is a travesty. Please save your money and find alternative pharmacies that won't insult your self-respect and dignity afforded as your natural rights. read more

Staff is friendly and helpful - and will make recommendations if you need. Prices are definitely cheaper than at other Pharmacies. Got a good deal on Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse 100ml for 17 euros, La Roche Posay Effaclar duo+ for 7,40 euros and it came with a decent sized sample of the effaclar face wash, and Embryolisse lait creme concentrate 2 pack 75ml each for 19,90. Also picked up some Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo for 13,50 for a two pack. Compared to Pharmacie Monge, this place isn't as packed, but there are still a ton of tourists here. Some items here aren't as cheap as the other pharmacy, but they have better deals on several items. It gets pretty packed mid-day and the rows aren't that big so you end up having to squeeze through to where ever you're trying to get. Regret not buying more when I visited! read more

Citypharma is the crème de la crème of French pharmacies! Products sold here are consistently cheaper than other in around Paris. On the down side, it's not exactly a secret. I've never seen this place not packed with insane number of tourists. Here is my short list of recommended products to buy: 1. Klorane dry shampoo with oat milk 2. Embroylisse lait-crème concentré 3. La Roche Posay (LRP) anthelios facial sunscreen 4. Bioderma sébium h20 5. Avène eau thermale Besides these items, LRP is my fav French pharmacy brand and you can't go wrong with anything from them. I visit City-Pharma whenever I am in Paris to stock up on French skincare products that are well discounted and sometimes not available in the US. Most products offered are available stateside, but either the formulations are different or more commonly, they are incredibly expensive. Caudale, Avene, Nuxe and La Roche Posay are some of the brands I purchase. This store is often flooded with tourists and locals, so navigating the aisles can prove challenging. For this, I recommend visiting off peak so that you aren't jostled and pushed around by rabid beauty mavens. The employees are great at providing recommendations tailored to your skin type. A few really push Caudalie too much, though. This definitely merits a stop and try to consolidate your purchases so that you qualify for a VAT refund. Happy shopping! read more

Tip : City Pharma is a small pharmacy that offers discounts on French brands, and others, some at half price. Practice your french, you'll have to compete with other Parisians in this small space. OMG...everything French you have seen in the parapharmacies is here at a DISCOUNT!! The prices are about 40% lower than US prices on certain items. If you are looking for something or need a suggestion grab a woman in a white coat and VERY politely ask for help. She will always speak English and lead you to the product that you requested. Best time to go is about one hour after opening when the first rush has departed. Absolute skincare heaven. I first heard about Citi-Pharma from my girl on Youtube and celebrity makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge. Guys.... BELIEVE THE HYPE and believe all the reviews that say this place is like Black Friday on crack. It definitely is the place to make a claustrophobic have a nervous breakdown, if that helps paint you a picture of the chaos you'll see in here. During my stay in Paris, I visited my fair share of pharmacies. And in each one, I was impressed by how cheap the products were in comparison to the USD that you would have to pay for them in the states. HOWEVER... nothing matched up to the rocket-low prices that you'll see at Citi-Pharma. Bioderma were being sold in packs of two 500 mL bottles for 15E as its market price (not even on sale!) For reference, Bioderma is extremely hard to come across in the states, and the only place you can get it is online for over $20 for a 500 mL bottle after shipping, tax, yadda yadda yadda. Some other items I got: - Nuxe Multi-Purpose Dry Oil ~ 7E (vs. USD $30) - Caudalie Beauty Elixer ~ 15E (vs. USD $49) - Nuxe Reve de Miel ~ 6E (vs. USD $19) - Klorane Dry Shampoo ~ 5E (vs. USD $20) - Avene Thermal Water ~ 4E (vs. USD $14) aaaand many others that I've forgotten the prices of by now. If you plan on shopping here, this is my advice to you (similar to what other reviewers have stated, but let me mention again just to reinforce how important it is!!!!): - GO EARLY. SERIOUSLY. unless you enjoy being in an environment where people are pushing and shoving you around and you barely have enough air to get a breath, be there early!! I read about City Pharma ahead of time, did my research, and printed out my shopping list with photos! I read that I should come when they open at 8:30am, but I ended up stopping by around 12:30pm in the middle of the day. It was crowded, but since I was mentally prepared for the crowd, it wasn't a big deal. I spent two hours looking around and getting my products on my list. I found that it was much easier to ask the women in white lab coats where my products were, and it was easy since I had photos. Upstairs, you will find several cashier lines. The ones to the left are if you need to purchase any prescriptions. The lines to the right is no prescriptions. If you spend more than €175 in products all in the same day, bring your passport, so you can receive a VAT tax refund. They will fill out the form, and you'll need to submit this form at the airport or train station when you depart Paris. Popular products I purchased were: Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré €21.50 for a 2-pack, Klorane Dry Shampoo Oat Milk €7.90. Boison Homeoplasmine €2.99 (I wished I bought the larger tube, and an extra 2 smaller tubes.), Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil €16.99, Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm €6.48, Nuxe Rêve de Miel Cream for Hands & Nails €6.90, Caudalie's Eau de Beauté, or "Beauty Elixir" €27.20, La Roche Posay Anthelois €9.90. I printed out US prices of these products so I can compare, and the prices at City Pharma were about 40 - 50% cheaper than the US online prices. This is the place Lisa Eldridge (the make up artist) raves about...and for a reason! First of all when planning to visit Citypharma make sure you dress lightly, wear comfortable shoes and don't bring any bags (just a small, easy to carry purse) because the place is packed! There is never a calm moment, it's a battlefield, so be prepared! This means: take a basket at the entrance (you'll need it), make a shopping list (or you'll be overwhelmed and incapable of buying anything because it will all be too much) and be prepared to occasionally push an Asian woman to the side (I'm not a racist but after all my visits to Citypharma I had to conclude that Asian people are pretty indecisive and tend to really take their time). I know all this doesn't sound appealing but you know what does: Citypharma carries a huge amount of skincare and beauty related products for the best prices. You have to know that a lot of french skincare brands, La Roche Posay, Caudalie, Vichy, Bioderma, Filorga, ... are cheaper in France and they are even cheaper in Citypharma. Citypharma always has the best deals. So if you're a fan of french skincare and planning a trip to Paris, make sure to add a visit to Citypharma to your to do list! read more

Are you a cosmetic/skin care freak like me? Then this is the perfect place for you! Amazing brands like Avene, Caudalie, Bioderma, and TONS more!! The prices are definitely cheaper than other pharmacies and I can spend a few hours in this store. Be aware, this place has narrow aisles and it gets super crazy crowded with other skincare freaks like me. Women can get pushy sometimes, lol. Although I loved the pharmacy, I was not a huge fan of the cashier that took care of me. I had told her I had forgotten my passport for the tax free form and she said to come in anytime with my receipts and passport. Well I went the next day and a different pharmacist stated it had to be the same day! Fortunately they were kind enough to fill out the form for me but I was annoyed the lady from previous day had lied to me. Oh, well I guess that's what I get for being a tourist and not speaking French. Prices are better for international buyer, however the global blue tax refund rate was AWFUL. I paid $60 euro and with a conversion rate of 1 usd to 0.86 euro, I only received $50/ 43 Euro back, which means Global Blue (their tax return vendor) ate 30% of my refund and took 36 days for return to show up on my credit card. On the one hand trying to help you but on the other, rude when you accidentally put something down somewhere in the store and lost track of it. You need to have lots of patience to work around all the other people in here, but its worth it. There are lots of women in smocks working there as well, and all are very helpful if you are overwhelmed or don't know what to buy. However her answer to me was a curt "first floor". We were on the first floor. So I asked where on the first floor, and she said "en bas" (below) and she turned away. I asked someone else how to go "en bas" and was told to take the stairs or elevator. They must have had a good laugh because there is no way for customers to go downstairs. One last time I approached a definitely available salesperson and their response was "en caisse" (at the register). I asked her to specify and she pointed to the checkout area (on the first floor). Unfortunately my mom had just paid and I did not want to hold up a long line asking about this after the fact. I definitely felt discriminated either because of my appearance (Asian woman) or because of my less than perfect French. (A side note: currently I can carry a conversation, albeit slowly, in French, though I used to be fluent from studying abroad in Lyon) I couldn't help but feel this way because I saw white lab coat ladies courteously helping others. So for any citypharma virgins, I offer these tips: - don't expect any customer service, especially if you don't speak perfect French. To better your odds of getting any help others have suggested pictures, but this did not help me in my case - the multilingual signage outside may seem welcoming to foreigners, but once you step foot inside there is no warmth or welcome - be prepared. You must what you want before you come in - go early. I went on a Wednesday morning shortly after opening and most customers appeared to be French with only a handful of English and non-English speaking tourists. It was still very crowded with workers and customers and boxes. You'll be saying "pardon" and "excusez-moi" a lot - their VAT form is electronic. They enter your info in their system and print out a really long receipt looking slip - that is the tax form for global blue. This was different from how other stores do VAT so just a heads up As for the Homeoplasmine? Turns out you have to ask for it behind the counter (upstairs?) according to previous yelp reviewers. Some online sites say the left side counter upstairs is for non-prescription items. If this is the case, all that had to be said was "vous pouvez acheter en caisse a gauche en la deuxieme etage" and this would have been a four star review. Avibon may be in the same location, but I can't verify that either. All I know is they are not out in the open. I should have checked yelp before the trip instead of looking at it afterwards for shared upsetting experiences, but I honestly didn't expect such a stressful pharmacy run and on second thought it may not have helped anyway. Would I return? That's TBD. The prices are really really good, and you're saving 50%ish off same items sold in US. You get what you pay for, I suppose. Best prices on the largest variety of products in Paris. Yes it's like shopping in Times Square on Black Friday but that's an indication that the store has amazing deals. The pharmacists at the check out counters (casse) provide excellent advice and support. My friend had an allergic reaction while in Paris and they hooked her up with a cream that resolved her issue within a day. Lines were long but also move quickly. This place is pretty crazy. It is almost like shopping on black friday in the states. The place is packed to the rim with French skincare/pharmacy goods and people shopping for them. It was a little hard to navigate trying to find products since there is just so much but after awhile I got the hang of it. The checkout line was also really fast since there were so many though I have to admit it was kind of hard to find at first since the isles are so tall it is hard to see. But once I found it there was literally only one person in front of me. They stock practically everything your skin care loving self could want, and more. The white coated assistants are helpful, but I've had mixed results with their recommendations. The prices here are very competitive, and they do the detaxé forms at all registers. The more time you devote to this store, the more gems you will find, but even with 15 minutes and a list you can find most everything you want. Not as many testers as in US stores but they sell samplers that make great gifts or you can use them during your visit and stock up on the products you like. I'd give it 5 stars for the quality of products carried and the pricing.. And 2 stars for the customer service. Although there seems to be a lot of staff around, they are completely disinterested in helping you unless you speak French.. And even if you do who knows... Anyhow.. This is a great place to get excellent deals on some awesome products/brands but it is always extremely crowded. With that said you should definitely come here with a game plan aka a list of items you want to purchase. Bottom line: would I come here again? Yes !
