As my wife is a shorty, she always used to take her new clothes to be fitted to a seamstresses in Brazil. There tailoring service is very common over there (you can find one on almost every street) and its very cheap. When she moved to Birmingham with me, I think one of the first things she asked me was if there was a place she could get her clothes adjusted. I honestly could not answer, it's not the sort of service I've ever really needed before.
While mooching around the Indoor Market in the city centre we found City Tailoring. Prices might not be as cheap as in Brazil, but it is still pretty cheap, certainly not as expensive as I thought it would be. To shorten legs, for example, it will cost £7. They even fix leather jackets, I thought this would be much more expensive but it only costs around £15 to shorten the arms. It's not only shortening they do, they take care of all kinds of alterations, fit new buttons and zips, reline jackets they even make curtains. It's all really cheap and the guy there is a nice fella. There is a quick turnaround and they always look busy. Looks like a good place for any basic tailoring needs! read more
