After trailing around the shops in Birmingham, it became apparent that shopping for a suitable yet stylish outfit for a Godmother to be was not going to be an easy task with such short notice. Too small, too big, not smart enough, the list goes on! It was coming to the end of the day and we needed to buy an outfit. We opted for a skirt suit, the skirt fitted perfectly but the jacket didn't look as fitted as it could. We found Karlus' website online and made an appointment. He was really helpful and made my mum feel at ease. His attention to detail was perfect and my mum looked great on the photos. I usually make a trip with some random vintage dress I've bought that doesn't fit or occasionally with my favourite pieces that are now too big for me ( I've been shrinking a bit recently). Karlus listens intently to what I need and always delivers the dress improvements to deadline, sometimes staying late so I can pop in on my way home from work. He tailored a beautiful vintage suit that my other half found in a vintage barn and it now fits him perfectly...not bad for £30 charge. I couldn't recommend him enough and he ll be tailoring the other halves wedding suit and my mum s dress for our summer wedding!

Their service is exemplary - I regularly visit and I can't fault it. They seem to be naturals at creating instant rapport with customers and they are incredibly meticulous, skilled tailors. They have an enormous range of suits, and although on appearance the shop may appear a little dated, they accommodate your every need and will provide you with something that looks as fresh as fashion's latest daisies. I have insulted them on a few occasions by bringing some odd sewing jobs on various items of mine and they still provide their excellent service and repair them to their former glory. I hold Ammi's in the highest esteem and would recommend them to anyone who wants the finest, bespoke suit or wishes their garments to be tailored to perfection.

It is difficult to express in words how poor was the quality of service from this tailor. I…read moreentrusted a bespoke tailored suit jacket for replacement of sleeve linings. The result was a jacket so distorted that it was unwearable. I took the jacket to another tailor, who is highly reputable, for recovery of this poor work and who said, "It's the worst tailoring job I have ever seen...the tailor who has tried to repair your jacket has actually destroyed it." I spoke to the Mr Marquez on the phone, but he was "too busy" to have a conversation. I wrote to him, but he did not respond. I returned to the shop and spoke to him where he denied any damage had been done, stated emphatically that the jacket was wearable and said, "It's just a jacket, nobody has died." He finally admitted he had not done the work himself, nor had he seen the final work as he had delegated this to an assistant. Is this a quality and professional service? Let the product and behaviours speak for themselves.

On the day of the fitting received advice & chose the fabric of which there were numerous types & styles . I hate buying clothes. No, really... I hate clothes shopping. I can't stand the act of not being…read moreable to find something I like, then finally finding something and it being in the wrong size or the total worst... FINALLY finding something that I love, and it breaks. I was in this conundrum before Swingamjig festival. I have a fabulous 1950's swing dress (which I have worn to death), but sometime last year the zip just disintegrated. Now, it was a fairly old and very well loved dress, so it's not a surprise - but I was devastated. But what to do? I have used a couple of places in the City before but found them to be very expensive for something as simple as fixing a zip. I remembered a recommendation from Joanne D. (she got her bag fixed by these guys) and took my beloved dress down to Piccadilly arcade. The tailor's is on the top end of the Arcade (closer to New Street than Stephenson Street) and has clear signage. It looks like a bit of a jumble sale inside (with garments everywhere and a sewing machine on the counter), but this is probably a sign of their popularity in the City. I popped in around 11am to see what the damage would be for the dress. I was greeted with a warm smile and welcomed in to the store. I handed the offending garment over to them and they had a brief look. I was offered a replacement zip service for £8 (which really isn't bad) and told it would be ready the next day (in time for the festival). Feeling very relieved, I paid in advance and left it there. I actually couldn't get back the next day (busy times), but popped in the day after to collect. You honestly wouldn't know it had been fixed! They managed to pop in a very strong replacement "hidden" zip which is even better than the original one! The staff seem to really know what they are doing, service is friendly, prices are very reasonable (I remember Jo saying they fixed a zip on her bag for £3) and I was very pleased with the work they had done. If you have a garment in need of a bit of TLC, you could do far worse than popping into Top Tailors and seeing what they can do.

I've made enquiries here on a couple occasions about getting dresses altered and sleeves shortened. It has always surprised me that such alterations aren't exactly cheap. I guess having a Mom gifted in sewing has spoilt me somewhat! They clearly know what they are doing and I'm sure that they do a brilliant job. The shop feels a bit like a throw back to days when people made do and mended - with an old sewing machine permanently on display. I guess you can't scrimp when it comes to craftsmanship.
