First off, this place is open later than almost any other coffee shop in the city so THANK YOU FOR THAT. When I was here last I ordered an Americano. It was well made - fresh ground, well roasted beans. Americanos are easy but watching the other drinks come out, the baristas clearly knew what they were doing. The flavour delivered on what was advertised - strong cocoa with hints of strawberry jam. Two things were missing for me. The first is variety in beans. Some days I'm in the mood for something sweet and acidic. Some days I want something deep and earthy. This place had great beans but I was either choosing something with good acidity for a pour over or something basey for espresso. The other thing missing was an amazing lounge. Don't get me wrong - what is there is nice. But there's no space for big comfy chairs and not enough plugins to bring my laptop and do work if enough university students beat me there. Great spot, worth the stop. Good coffee. Well done for rocking the V60. And most of all, thanks for being open late. read more

Delicious! An unexpected treat found while on a quick business trip to Saskatoon. We had a cappuccino, latte, Breaky Bowl complete with perfectly poached eggs and lovely roasted beets. We also had the BLT from the brunch menu. Wow! We will definitely be back! read more

Aww, what a cute little coffee shop! Serving up hot drinks, a fun fancy-esque decor, local art on the walls, wifi and the likes. We popped in on Remembrance Day, there was only soup and a biscuit offered for lunch... not sure if this is standard on most winter days for food? But what they had to offer was sooo good! A spicy squash something or other... I couldn't help but take slow sips to savour my way through the bowl. There were an equal amount of patrons with friends and patrons with laptops. Before explaining why I gave only one star, I want to be clear that the food was actually quite good. Where City Perk went off the rails was in the service department. After ordering our coffee and brunch at the counter, we were offered the opportunity to tip. The options were 15, 20 and 25 percent. We just selected 15% since it was a quick meal and beverage, not a fine dining experience. Not being from Saskatoon, we didn't know this cafe nor their protocols. As it turned out, we shouldn't have tipped at all. Let me describe: 1) we ordered at a counter; 2) we had to go back to the counter to get some salt and pepper; 3) we had to return to the counter again for a coffee refill (which was full price!); 4) we were not asked if everything was okay; 5) we cleared and bussed our own table (we saw that's what all the other patrons were doing so did the same). I always thought a tip is meant for rewarding good service. And I really hate that feeling of being pressured when paying with a credit card, being offered such high tipping options. Since when is 25% appropriate for counter service? It's our own fault really. Next time, the tip will come after the meal, not before, and only if deserved. read more

Have tried their pour-over, caffè macchiato and a few food items. I'm always "just" happy with the food, but their attention to making a good cup of coffee is what keeps bringing me back. Table service, but often a bit slow on the espresso bar. Great patio in a great neighborhood. I'm critical of this for most of the coffee places in Saskatoon: I wish there was a good late-night coffee joint in town. Would like to see if City Perks could pull it off! read more

The gem of City Park! Great staff, coffee, espresso, Italian sodas and more. Perhaps my favourite place to grab lunch in Saskatoon. City Perks menu is short, (usually 5 entres or less), but they're amazing at what they do, and the soups are homemade. We often wander over there in the summer time to share a delicious City Perk desert on the patio, and jazz musicians preform on Sunday afternoons. The cafe also serves as gallery space for local artists, and a community gathering place for the residents of city park. This little coffee shop enhances the entire neighbourhood, I frequently bring family and friends from out of town here. read more

Bright, light, and airy with several options for seating - bar stools by the window, single corner spots, smaller tables for two and larger tables for four. Come to this place on an afternoon off with a book, treat yourself to a mocha (made with homemade dark chocolate ganache) and something from their mouthwatering display case of baked good and you have a recipe for the most relaxing afternoon off. I've hardly ever seen the same thing twice so there is always something new to try. Often pretty busy, no matter what time, this place is a great neighbourhood spot with a good mix of solo patrons and groups of 3-4. The music is always great, the wifi is both strong and free and the other guests provide enough white noise to focus on your book or your studying. Hands down the best cafe I've been to in any city. I'm from out of province and have made it a point to bring everyone that comes to visit to City Perks, as one of the highlights of Saskatoon. read more

Used to have great, friendly management, and it was filled with artists, students, musicians, dog walkers, and radicals. Everyone felt welcome. Last time I went there, they kicked an elderly lady off the patio because she'd brought her own sandwich to eat with the expensive coffee she bought. Really? The cashier recommended a chicken sandwich, and I had it with a side of soup and a black coffee. The meal came up to $20 and the food was disappointing. I wish we didn't have to tip upfront otherwise I wouldn't have given anything more than 10%. Their service was poor and the staff made passive aggressive comments as we left. Not going back. The drinks and baking I've had have been good (Americano and macchiatto) but I've yet to sit and have a sandwich or anything else yet. Love this place and so happy it is right down the street. Since the renovation 2+ years ago they have been serving 49th Parallel coffee which is supper yummy. And I love the new deck, making it a great summertime hang out spot. When I want a break from the home office, it's my favourite place to work (lots of easily accessible outlets for plugging in and free wifi!). Nice for lunch and Coralee makes (or inspires) some of the best desserts in the city. And when she is there always makes you feel welcome when you walk in the door. read more

City Perks has a lovely atmosphere and good prices. My only complaint is that I always have to wait a long time to order and to receive my drink. The people working seem to put their other tasks ahead of helping customers, and I understand we should slow down and enjoy the day rather than being rush rush but they could make your business feel more welcome. read more

I live down the block from this coffee shop & I will never buy a coffee there again the 1st time I bought a coffee from there it had another persons hair in it. The last time I was there was in the Summer I stopped for a coffee on the way to work went to use the cream & ants came out of the creme. Also ants were crawling around all over the coffee creamer area. Disgusting I have no idea how they are even running a business this way. read more

This has to be the most unusual "quality" coffee place in the city. On the surface everything looks promising from equipment to beans. I've been a few times and the one time I sent a drink back the barista tried to make me feel dumb and that it was me that was wrong. They have a lofty opinion of their coffee here that just doesn't match up. There are better places for 49th parallel in other cities but they seem to be the only one in Saskatoon. I could be wrong. I can't comment on their food - most of it is fresh but have only had a sandwich a once. It was okay - if you are stuck at the City hospital it's maybe your best option, but because of this clientele - you have to get there early or go outside of lunch. read more

I've been to City Perks twice in the past year. The location is in a mature area of the city, and attracts a variety of people from all walks of life. The first time we couldn't get in because it was so busy. It may be off the beaten path, but it is popular, so perhaps avoid peak times. The second time we visited we went at the beginning of the week in the middle of the day, and there was plenty of room inside. It took about five minutes to get through the lineup to give our orders and ten seconds to find a place to sit. Staff is decently friendly. The deck was full because it was a beautiful afternoon and it's a great place to sit and enjoy yourself. The location, surrounded by character homes and large trees, is a nice change from places that are located on busy main thoroughfares. The interior of City Perks is comfortable and unpretentious and feels quite inviting. There are window seats if you don't want to sit in the sunshine outside, otherwise there are bistro tables and small booths. There is free wifi available, so bring your MacBook -- everyone else does. The menu selection was limited (this is a tiny coffee place after all, not a restaurant) but it concentrated on a few select specialties. The iced mocha I had took almost ten minutes to be brought to my table. The mocha itself wasn't superb. It seemed a bit too watery and wasn't very flavourful. The syrup they used sat in a glob at the bottom of the glass. That being said, City Perks is a pleasant little place to sit and relax for a while and my overall impression was very positive. I look forward to coming back and trying some different beverages and food. read more
