But it's the golf that counts, how you can play the course. The worst thing for a new golfer (I am a new golfer), is having the stress of making golfers wait for extended periods of time while you hack away at the pristine fairways. The course itself is an excellent learning course, wide fairways, limited difficult hazards and well kept and maintained greens. The course gets extremely busy seven days per week and you will find yourself waiting at each and every hole for at least 5-7 minutes. However, the golf groove is not lost by these hole and T-Off waits because the surroundings are beautiful and peppered with Disney like animals.On a good day of you move fast and play say between a 1 to 2 over per hole the golfer can get through and be drinking in the clubhouse in just about 3.5 hours with space on either side of that time limit. Or you can shorten your golf adventure and play 9 Holes and having a nice lunch at 'The Bunker' (thebunker@gordongolfclub.com). Lesson, there will always be club Knob-heads to keen to offer advice, criticise or inform on club rules and regulation. My advice smile and nod and go on your way. If they become tedious only then tell them in an assertive manner to 'fuck off'.

Worth noting as you will need to know one to get on - unless you want to pay a million dollars and play on a trade day. It certainly isn't cheap and several colleagues who have eaten there many times over the years spoke of better times under a previous chef who had a proper Chinese menu with better value for money. Having ordered together, several mains showed up within 5-10 minutes, and a fair few within 20-25 minutes but a few colleagues were waiting longer. 2 ladies waited 45 minutes and when one of their meals eventually showed up, the other lady tried to cancel her order. The staff wouldn't let her cancel and insisted on bringing her meal out as a takeaway. We then waited another 15 minutes and it still hadn't shown up. When we checked, they had just left it in a bag on a counter at the entrance to the restaurant. So... not allowed to cancel, not offered anything like a free drink - or even an apology - after waiting an hour for one course, and pretty much treated like dirt. One lady couldn't eat her Schnitzel, pronouncing it totally bland and without flavour. I ordered a Thai curry which cost $20 and didn't even come with rice. When I think of places like Stir Crazy that do a whole range of absolutely killer Thai dishes on a $10 deal, it makes the club's food look really poor. Beautiful views but ordinary food and awful service - no wonder there was plenty of room in the restaurant.

There are at least 20 spots but it does get quite busy. They have the huge flood lights on at night, so you can actually watch where your golf ball landed. Tip: The happy hour is after 6pm daily. As the driving range is attached to the golf course, I meet up with my (professional??) golfing mates usually before/after they have finished their 18 hole and practice my swing. I like to go there as often as I can as I am hoping to move on to the golf course by next year.. The car park is massive and free of charge in case you're wondering.

I have walked this course and it's not easy. The fairways and greens are generally well maintained and last minute bookings are possible at times. I will probably end up here at some point again. It's conveniently located and easy to get to. At the moment they have mid week green specials so it's quite reasonable to golf here. Some of the holes are really tricky and have amazing views across the harbour. Staff are friendly and helpful and it's an ok place to get a game in the city.

It was nice getting fed rather than the typical "bar tab" only style 21st's. Small dance floor up the front for anyone ready to show off their Mick Jagger moves (ok so they are probably too young to know any Mick Jagger moves). It was dark by the time I got there but I'm sure the water view would be a fantastic backdrop for any daytime event.

You will see people simply wandering around, chatting, picking things up and putting them down. Dreaming that a Titleist Pro V X will give them extra distance and they will suddenly be able to suck a ball back to the pin even though they rarely hit the green. Thats the thing about golf, everyone has hit a great shot, and everyone thinks they can do it again. Its the exquisite pain of playing well all the while knowing that disaster is just a shot away. The blokes in this shop are cool. They don't have the superior attitude that can spoil a wander around the shop. So far everyone I've spoken with is Irish which gives them a flying start. They are not going to annoy you, but if you want to know something they will tell you. They match prices with other places and even on line stuff - sometimes. I recommend this place because its in the city and, even if you dont buy anything, its a nice way to spend ten minutes dreaming of what might be. 'Behold the Golfer. He ventures out full of anticipation, and returns home full of drink and the truth is not in him.'

This is probably my best kept secret in Sydney in terms of things to do. I love coming here to…read morezone out, it's like going to a spa, but cheaper! Great new facility complete with bright vibrant colours on the driving range to represent the grass, lakes and sand. Really stunning just to look at, let alone play here! How it works is you pay for the golf balls in the pro shop, head outside to the range to the golf ball dispenser, place a bucket near the nozzle, scan your receipt and watch the magic of the balls being dispensed. There are two levels and there are auto tees in some bays. The driving range is sloped in such a way that the balls drift towards "drains" which suck in the balls and return them to the dispenser. The facility is very well maintained and looks new and sharp. The standout is the staff. They are true professionals, passionate, know their stuff, and friendly. The lessons are expensive but really worth it if you're looking to improve your game - they really helped me as they were personalised to improve specific issues I was having, rather than structured as a crash course on how to play. There is also mini golf with 2 themed courses, a cafe, and the pro shop sells a range of clubs, bags, and other gear. I'm drawn to the pretty vibrant colours of the driving range and they were what got me into golf. Have come back time and time again.

There's a spacious and breezy cafe area with decent sandwiches, coffee and cakes which you can take onto the putt putt course, but there are no bins on the one-way course meaning you have to walk through others' games to get to the one near the entrance. None of the fun windmills, castles with drawbridges or dancing monkeys on this putt putt course, it's just stretches of green, pretty wooden bridges and ponds. And since I have no golfing capabilities whatsoever, the many ponds on the 18-hole course just meant wet hands for me. Highest score meant the I won, right?
