Y'all neeeed to go here if you're in Berlin. I'm not kidding. It was such a relaxing experience and…read moreone of the best I've ever had IN MY LIFE. FYI, men's and women's is Monday. Other than that, it's just women all day errday. I got the exfoliating scrub and massage. It was one of the best add-ons I could have asked for -- especially that massage! I feel like the massages in Germany are much different compared to that of the US? There's somewhat of a physiotherapy approach that you would find more or less at a clinic in the USA. Anyway, you can bring your own bathing suit or go around nekked. It's up to you, it's a judgment free zone and those Germans are very accepting of everyone you know! You're given a locker, and you can choose to get some towels and sandals for a small fee. There's also a shower, a dry sauna, wet sauna, and cooling room. I pretty much did everything I could in the 3 hours paid for. After you are done, dressed, and return your things (if you rented anything that is), you can relax in the front area with some Turkish tea. I slept sooo good that night. Can't wait to go back!

Had a wonderful experience getting a pedicure today. Incredibly relaxing, clean and wonderful…read morestaff. I'm heading back tomorrow to get a body-scrub massage and spray tan, so I'll do a final update then. A few notes today: *The spa is located on the 6th floor of the Weinmeister Hotel (in the general area of U-bahn Weinmeisterstrasse, the M1 tram stop for Weinmeisterstrasse/Gipsstrasse when you go south and Hackescher Markt going north or Hackescher Markt S-bahn stop itself). When you enter the front door (with the "street art" on it), you have to have the staff let you into the elevator/lift area since you don't have a keycard. You just say that you have an appointment at the BeautySpa and hoped they could let you in to the elevator. I speak German, but the hotel staff speaks English very well. *Pedicure was excellent. You have your own private room and recline with cookies, tea, lemon water. Good quality color selection. Service was excellent. Cost was 55 Euro for pedicure and color. Most of their prices are online, though, so you can check those out. The woman I worked with spoke some English but we stuck to German since she feels more comfortable with that. She is Italian, so she speaks that as well. *They accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and EC-card (which is a German/European type of card). Overall, recommended.

Manicure by Valentina was outstanding. Unfortunately the pedicure by the other staff member was subpar, with aggressive and somewhat painful cuticle removal and truly bad paint job that I will have to have redone elsewhere. If you can get Valentina, I would recommend without hesitation, as the location, vibe, and service are all fantastic.

How many times do you repeat an action before it becomes a habit?…read more If its THREE, my habit is Schönerie. Back again...this time for a multitude of well-deserved pampering and tailoring on a day of relaxation. Katrin (the owner) was my sole companion for this voyage of beauty, skillfully translating my "please help me!" cries into German and then making prettiness happen. *eyebrow pluck *eyelash tint (where has THIS been all my life?) *manicure *pedicure *facial --------------- 130 + tip = 150 euros for the whole shebang. Shebangs! Shebangs! She looks better. The space is beautiful and tranquil, quiet and relaxing (I passed out during the facial). Katrin has a really calming presence and I felt very well cared for, like I wanted to just move in. Wouldn't that be great? Highly recommended for all of the above services. The nail stuff was a bit different than what I've had in the past (you get used to things!) but in the end, my hands/feet are smooth as butter with nice polish to match. The facial was absolutely great, relaxing and included a really nice face, shoulder, scalp massage. FANTASTIC. A habit, and one that I am keeping as long as I am in Berlin. *remember, cash only! *by appointment.

How can you not love a place called Schönerie? As an aside, the first German phrase I learned in…read moreGermany was "Sehr schön," which was a compliment from the lady sitting next to me on the plane ride from Munich to Berlin. Okay, okay...so the compliment may have been directed towards my adorable Siamese-mix cat and not me, but more the reason to go to Schönerie, right? Schönerie was located a whole one and a half blocks away from my flat in Berlin, which made it very convenient and very dangerous for a woman with a spa habit. It was easy to make an appointment via e-mail, and next-day appointments were usually available. I had several different therapists here, and they all provided fabulous pregnancy massages that were quite relaxing for this mama-to-be. Easily my favorite spa in Berlin!

The massage itself was pretty good and my massage technician was friendly. Although I do appreciate it when the technician asks if the pressure they are using is ok, I got mildly annoyed that literally every 30 seconds, I was asked if I was in pain or told that the next part of the massage might hurt a little. I've never previously gotten a Thai massage before; it sure was interesting! For those who don't know, Thai massage involves the technician stretching you out and using various body parts to work out the kinks (nothing inappropriate though, but for example, lots of massaging using their feet). To top off the experience, I was given a cup of fresh ginger tea. That was nice!

I'd say the intensity is quite high if people aren't used to hard massages but it really did the job for me. I received the whole body routine. "Nann" must've noticed that my shoulders and lower back needed work, and she did a really good job treating those areas. The interior is quite simple, nothing too fancy. The treatment was on a bed, not a massage table, which was just fine. And I was given a cup of tea on the house before we started. Straight-forward treatment. No small-talk needed, just tuning in to yourself. "Nann" was also so nice to offer me a coupon probably as a first-timer. I would go again if I'm all tensed up.
