I entered this shop one day, hungry but not knowing what to buy. The vegan chocolate cake looked delicious but a bit too rich for me at the time...But one day I will try it. The cashier lady suggested I look in there clearance basket and I found a lemon iced scone. (The people who work here are a really cool, trendy, bohemian and eclectic bunch. I love their style and how chill and nice they are. I've heard stories around the neighborhood that they feed homeless people 1 free bread item a day.) Anyways I tried the lemon scone and I loved the buttery taste and the sweet lemon icing on it. Since I was a new customer they gave me a bonus fresh raisin loaf of bread. When I split this bread in half it was so epically fluffy and soft. It's got to easily be some of the best bread I've ever had. I definitely recommend this place for all your bakery needs. I can't wait to try some of their desserts as well.

This cute new bakery recently opened up in late October 2015 on Corydon close to the intersection…read moreof Lilac and Corydon. It's a small-batch artisan bakery produces old-world style bread and bakery products baked fresh daily on a wood-fired brick oven. I haven't tried their breads yet but it's made with wild yeast (traditional sourdough leaven) and has no additives or preservatives. Baguettes and sour doughs adorn this place. Croissants will be coming soon but aren't on the menu at the moment. They sell cookies, scones, danishes, tortes, whole cakes can be ordered and even sandwiches to go. The shop is tiny but beautiful - I'm a sucker for bakeries. Now I will warn you that the prices are kinda steep compared to other bakeries around the city (at least for the items I purchased). I was very intrigued by their heavy cream dark chocolate scone that went for a whopping $4.25 - yes, that's for one normal sized scone. Now, I was hoping to hate it since it was so pricey but it was really delicious. The dark chocolate did not overwhelm the scone. The scone had a lovely taste and was at the perfect moisture level. It was really good but that price is hard to justify for me. Also tried a peach danish with some custard filling for $5 - this was not a flakey danish but more like a soft bread bun style, which I liked but my sister preferred a more flakey danish. The filling was very well balanced and not overly sweet but once again at $5, it was a bit steep. They sell a variety of cookies and the one that caught my attention was the milk chocolate chip cookie with pretzels and potato chips ($1.75 each). This was a soft but dense cookie that was sweet from the milk chocolate and while I didn't get a lot of pretzel and chips, the latter items provided a bit of texture to the typical cookie. Service is incredibly friendly here and despite the higher than expected prices I will be visiting them again and trying other items. It's a quality product and everything I tasted was good. They are open Wed-Fri 10 am- 6 pm and Sat 9 am- 5 pm.

The Skinny: texturally perfect challah = heaven with just the right sweetness, their tea biscuits…read moreare great too although some of their other breads are just okay (3.5) service: it's counter service (3) value: around $3.50-ish with tax for a loaf of their great challah... not bad (3). Okay, let me start by saying this. Their challah is the bomb. Perfectly executed, the slightly dense loaf has a nice eggy flavour with just the right amount of sweetness. It's not buttery like Chinese styled egg bread but it's lighter. It was love at first bite and I just couldn't stop - gobbling up three large slices smeared with butter. Oh yeah baby - this is carb porn for me. [feel free to insert cheesy music here] Next comes the delicious tea biscuits. Nice buttery flaky tea biscuits with raisins are yum! Toasted with a little bit of jam/butter, it's a luxurious afternoon treat with some tea. I've tried the other breads - raisin, cinnamon roll and whole wheat. The raisin bread had a nice texture but was a little dry. The cinnamon roll bread is a very sticky sweet loaf and the white bread just doesn't hold up. The whole wheat loaf is a decent loaf of bread - denser than your standard grocery loaf but not substantial enough. I'll admit - I haven't tried their gluten free products but they have a large variety. Butter tarts, brownies, bread... they've got it all. Overall, if it was just the challah and tea biscuits alone, this would be a 4 starred review. But because of the not-so great white breads and whole wheat loaf, this place rates a 3.5 starred review.

OMG - this bakery sells the best slightly sweet/dense bread ever! The bread is called "Lagos Loaf"…read moreand comes in white, cinnamon raisin and whole wheat for $4.50 a loaf. It's a generous portion of what looks like those familiar perfectly square loaves that you make tea sandwiches with the crust cut off. The owners are Nigerian and bread is a huge thing in their culture and I can see why with this bread. I chose the white Lagos loaf, which is a dense yet super soft bread with a slightly sweet flavour to it. It will make you skip that multi-grain and fall in love with white bread again! This loaf is best shared with others or else you will end up eating many slices of this. I am fine eating it plain or toasted with butter but I'm sure it will make a nice sandwich bread as well. This place also sells cinnamon buns, Scotch eggs, cookies, brownies and meat pies. I had a meat pie $3 which made for a nice lunch - the meat filling had some lovely ground beef and spices with only a very subtle heat to it. The pastry shell was too thick for my liking but otherwise it was good. The store is pretty small didn't have a large showcakes of the bakery items other than the Lagos Loaf which is their main selling item. The person who was behind the counter was kind of cold, maybe a case of the Mondays? I asked her about a few items but she really didn't want to answer me. I've had their water bread at O Tacho, across the street - it's a nice bread, with a chewier exterior. Their kaiser buns comes in packages of 6 and 12; a package of 6 is $1.30. The buns have a very flaky exterior and leave a ton of crumbs everywhere when you start eating it - not my fav. The turnovers (comes in apple and cherry) are HUGE ($1.25 each). I chose the apple turnover and I really enjoyed it since it wasn't overly sweet like the typical turnover. The egg or custard tarts are sold in a larger size if you want to buy in bulk but they are also sold prepackaged 6 smaller portions for $5.50. They're not the prettiest looking tarts since there's some caramelized spots on the custard (it looks burnt but it's not). The tarts remind me of creme brulee that's been encased in a tougher pastry shell - it's a sweet little treat that's worth trying! They are open 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday, closed on Sundays. It's old school so no debit or credit, just plain ol' deniro is accepted.
