I attempted to get a car loan from this bank. Not only did I wait patiently for the loan officer to get off lunch, I was always very polite. I applied for my loan, and called the next day as suggested, to find out the results. I was denied. I inquired about a co-signer and was told it would help. So I brought one in, who was also tattooed. He was also stared at and given off looks. We filled out the paperwork and called I'm a day for results. Well, I was denied again?!? What? How? I ended up going to Community Bank to fill a loan app out there, with little expectations. My co-signer was going to meet me there....until I was told I did not even need a co-signer!!!??? So you tell me what that was about at Bank of Holland?! Warning: if you're heavily tattooed or have a unique style, avoid this bank, because they will judge you. I'd give zero stars if I could have.

Fast forward to modern times, where I now help manage a lot of her banking and have been coming into Summit regularly for about five years. I've met the supposed "look-alike" several times. Spoiler alert: she does not look like me. She's younger, taller, brunette, and shares exactly zero identifiable features with me. (My mom still insists. Recently she even tried to justify it by saying, "Well, she's lost some weight." I stared at her in silence until she realized what she'd just said and started laughing. So... there's that.) All that aside--this place is exceptional. Because of how warm, friendly, and genuinely "down-home" Summit feels, I eventually opened my own account here too, even though it's no longer convenient to our current location. And I will never close it. They know my mom the moment she walks in. When she fumbles for her ID, they let it slide because they truly know her. They ask how she's doing, remember details about her life, and treat her with patience, kindness, and respect. When I was buying a house, they gathered around to look at pictures, oohing and aahhhing in all the right places like proud friends--not just tellers behind a counter. This is one of those rare places where you feel seen and remembered. You matter here. And as a bonus? My alleged "look-alike" is also an avid reader, so we often end up chatting about books while I'm there--which somehow feels exactly right for a place like this. Exceptional service. Deposits and withdrawals are quick and easy. Never have had any problems. We joined the credit union in order to have a place to put our funds as we raised money to get our grandson a service dog. Management was very helpful on setting up the account so it complied with all regulations. Probably the only drawback is a lack of Saturday hours but since I am retired it doesn't inconvenience me. I cannot recommend this organization highly enough and encourage everyone to check them out.

I feel safe keeping my money with them, that they won't nickle and dime me, I have never had to argue with a service rep about an overdraft fee. They have even moved money from my savings to my checking when I was about to overdraft to cover my butt. In addition, the BFCU supports local causes, has a yearly driveway sale for venders and the public, and collects items for the homeless at certain times of the year.
