Overall, it was a fun night for the kids, but there were a few drawbacks. There was way too much clown filler -- we honestly thought they were killing time between acts, but then came a 20-minute intermission. A 20-minute intermission is wild, especially when the kids are already getting tired. Concessions were also steep -- $10 for a box of popcorn is not cool. We were expecting a bit more in the show (like a contortionist or trapeze act), which never materialized. The kids still had a great time, but for the ticket price, the overall talent felt a bit uneven. There were several juggling drops, and the marksman needed three tries to hit his target. In short, enjoyable for families with young kids, but expect a lot of filler and some rough edges for the price. read more

I'm like it would be nice to take my daughter to see her first circus and make this a nice family night. I gave it a four stars because the tickets I bought some ppl were sitting in my seat and I didn't want to cause a seen so I just took it which I will never again. I'm speak up and seat in our seats where I paid my hard earn money. But besides that cacey was scared at first and didn't want to go in so I held her as long as I could because she is bigger and she started to open up and enjoy it Cons: I spent 10 bucks for 10 mins to let cacey jump in a jumper which was a high jack of money. Also there was a kid behind us and she was kicking ashley and she asked politely to the parents can she stop and she still did. The people at the circus could not be nice. Just finished watching the circus Vargas performance in Escondido California and it was such an incredible experience. I have gone to several Cirque du Soleil and this circus beats any of those shows in both pricing and performance. Bought tickets on a whim for my family on a weekday and we will definitely make this a yearly tradition. I bought the $25 seats, and it was worth every penny. Next time we come to this circus, I will definitely upgrade our tickets to sit closer to the stage, but even our " nosebleed tickets" were great seats. My wife and I live close by this traveling circus and wanted to go while it is still here in Woodland Hills. We have never been to a small local circus, our kids are grown so we went and enjoyed watching all the little ones having such a good time. Great show well worth the money. Small venue, all seats are good although we had ringside for a little extra. Buy your tickets on Groupon to save. With ringside there is no need to get there early as seats are reserved. Food is theate priced...popcorn $6. Parking is easy and free. The first thing that impressed me about the show was how hard all the performers and crew work to put on a safe, entertaining show. Everyone wears multiple hats here. You will be seated by entertainers etc....no down time here for anyone...everybody chips in to make sure the guests have a good time.....GREAT JOB GUYS! As far as the entertainment goes. I am happy there are no animals to abuse. As a suggestion maybe a trick dog show would be a nice addition for those that need an animal act. No scary clowns here :) don't expect Circ du Soile big production, just go with it and enjoy the small venue. After the show the kids get to meet all the performers....something you don't get at the big production show. All the performers are top notch athletes and acrobats with the motorcycle ball being my favorite. My wife's favorite was the the couple acrobatic act and the trampolines. What a treat this place is! When you're driving by on the freeway, Vargas Circus doesn't seem overly impressive and the tent is a bit dirty. Regardless, my husband and I decided to get some tickets (around $25 a piece for the "cheap seats" which is still a great show!) and I'm so glad we did! I was blow away by so many aspects of the show! The acrobats were phenomenal. They do some incredibly crazy stunts - jumping from high distances onto a trampoline and doing flips etc. They would swing from almost the top of the tent and fly in the air to be caught by another acrobat on another swing. The juggling was spectacular, and the whole story was just really something special. I especially enjoyed the fact that there are no animals as part of the show. I have a big problem with circus animals and the fact that the Vargas Circus doesn't have any animals and still puts on such an incredible and captivating performance. What a wonderful group and everyone in the show was so friendly after. They all wait outside of the main doors for you to take pictures with. LOVED! They have Discount Tickets @ Goldstar for This Event. This took place in Canoga Park but they have several Circus Vargas Shows going on in & around SOCAL. Check your local listing. The Parking here is FREE which is always a Big Plus. They have a Clown, Acrobats,, Aerialists, a Juggler & Trapeze Artists. The two coolest acts were The Flying Trampoline Acrobats flying off a building to the song Sing Sing Sing a 1940s Big Band number. They were Amazing! The other stand out performers were the Trio of Motorcycle Stunt Artists Going Upside Down & in the Dark in a Metal Globe. They were also Amazing! They have an Intermission between the Acts so you can get a bite to eat in their Concession Stand. Lots of Fun @ Circus Vargas The Strongest of Ease April 2019 in Canoga Park. On the way out they were giving out Free Child's Coupon Tickets for another performance. It was for a Free seat in the bleachers or it could be used as an Upgrade as well. We saw the Circus Vargas "Dreaming of Pirates" show, in May 2018, and my family really enjoyed the show. The Circus was located on the North/West corner of the Westfield Promenade Mall. The staff and performers were all very nice and helpful. The show is about 2 hours long, and they have a 15 minute intermission half way through the show. The show was great! It has a pirate theme throughout the performance, and had everything you would expect in a circus; clowns, music, audience participation, trampoline, dance, tightrope, trapeze, juggling, motorcycles racing in a steel cage, and lots of fun. We have seen previous Circus Vargas shows in past years, and this "Dreaming of Pirates" was our favorite. There is a snack bar with popcorn, sodas, waters, nachos, cotton candy, hotdogs, candy, etc. There is also souvenir T-shirts, and lots of glow toys for the kids. They took a picture of our family before the show started, and you can buy them with a Circus Vargas frame for $10. After the show some of the performers stand outside for photo ops. The best value seats are the Arena which are $37, and are first come, first serve. We arrived about 45 minutes early, and got to sit directly behind and a little above the $72 VIP seats. I actually think our seats were better than the VIP seats. But you have to arrive early to get the best seats. The reality is that all the seats are descent, even the cheap $25 bleacher seats are not bad. I believe AAA had children free tickets, which are good for the bleacher and arena seats only. In the same parking lot is the delicious Maggiano's Italian restaurant, about a 1 minute short walk from the circus tent. Make it a really fun event and have a nice meal before or after the Circus. read more

We went to Circus Vargas, and really enjoyed it. The entertainment value is very high, and we could not stop smiling the entire time. If you're one of those people who just love looking for a great lawsuit, look no further than Circus Vargas! I attended the Sunday show on Mother's Day, and let me tell you, you'll definitely want a lawyer handy for this one. The main tent was easily over 105 degrees on an ~88 degree day. My party was faced with an interesting (and by interesting, I mean hellishly unfair) dilemma: choose a seat with an obstructed view and a fan aimed slightly in your direction, or choose a seat with a great view but no fan at all. We chose the latter. After about ten minutes my shirt was thoroughly drenched, and not from the luxuriously non-existent misters either. I went to the concession tent looking to buy one of those overpriced carnival waters. After paying, the water was set on the counter. "Did you want a cup of ice with that?" I looked down and noticed the overpriced carnival water I had just paid for was not even cold. It was, in fact, quite warm. By the time I made it back into the main tent and found my seat, a third of my cup of ice had melted. Exhilarating thrill of potential heat stroke aside, the show itself was something that would have Clifford Vargas turning over in his grave. I have incredible respect for the performers who risk their lives in that unsafe working environment (and I'm not talking about the "knife" jumping or high wire walking either), and it is apparent these people have skill. That skill, however, is completely downplayed during the skit just before intermission. The skit, meant to be lighthearted and fun, serves as a complete insult to every performance up to that point. "The tattooed man" walks out, wearing a zip up, skin colored shirt with pictures of tattoos on it. "The snake charmer" walks out with a stuffed snake around her neck. "The strong man" lifts "1000 pounds" of cardboard. "The sword swallower" "swallows" one of those retractable party blower things. I could not help but see this as a big, unnecessary middle finger to the performers with actual talent. That whole skit was fake, and you used it even though you have performers with real talent. For whatever reason, I find myself emotionally invested enough to be ashamed. I will not even get into how lame the exhibition of stuffed animals was. I get it, you don't want an angry letter from PETA. You know what you do? Cut the embarrassingly cheesy filler where you have your skilled staff march around with stuffed lions in a cage and have them perform their actual art. Staff in the concession tent, despite my many criticisms, were very friendly. I couldn't be happier with how my party was treated. Circus Vargas is lucky to have them. All in all, if I had to give the company behind this "circus" just one piece of advice, it would be to figure out a better cooling system. It only takes one heat stroke for those skilled performers to lose their jobs. Whether management chooses to heed that advice or not is entirely their decision, as will be their liability. read more

Perfect Circus show for my 5 year old son's first circus experience. The show was very entertaining and the performance are really good and it shows the hard work they do to make they act perfect during the show. Very impressive acrobatics and motorcycle act too the juggling ‍ also he even tried with 10 balls and from r the finale with the glow in the dark balls was the best way to finish his act. I honestly think this circus deserves more credit and more advertising to make people aware of the option to bring their kids to enjoy a very well elaborated show at a very decent price. read more

My 2 nephews (8 & 10) were spellbound: pirates battling on giant pirate ship / trampoline wall, trapeze artists fly through the air, a swashbuckling tightrope walker, and motorcycles - what's not to love?! Wow! This was way more than we expected. I loved the classic circus elements combined with the steam punk twist. And no animals whatsoever, which makes you wonder why that was ever necessary. I love the retro circus vibe, from the actual big tent, to walking on the pavement inside, to the cotton candy and popcorn. There is definitely a bit of a home spun feel. I took my almost-5-year-old and she loved it, especially the face painting by the girls in the show! The stunts were incredible, and the performers were top notch, performing some jaw-dropping feats. Kudos to the trapeze artists - the best I have ever seen. It's too bad that some of the reviews below were less than 5 stars simply because of the heat, because the show itself it awesome! I really like Circus Vargas because they do not use animals in their shows. If you are looking for a circus with animals you need to get your priorities straight and stop the cruelty and stop supporting shows that use them. I've been taking my kids to this circus at the Promenade every year for the past 6 years and we love it. And we will continue to support it. The performers are really talented and most know more stunts than just one which I find mind blowing. Anyone who criticizes these performers here on Yelp is pea brained. Try doing these acts yourself and see how you do. It takes many years of practice and most of these kids are several family generations in as circus performers which I have mad respect for. The tent can get very stuffy if you go on a hot day. They have fans blowing to help circulate the air but you forget about it once the show starts. I recommend going to a later show. The show is 2 hours long which includes a 15 min intermission. All the seats give you a decent view but I like the center Arena the best, in any row. Be sure to get there at least a half hour early as seats are first come first serve and the kids get to go into the ring for a bit to play with the performers. For this year's Pirate show the clowns weren't very funny at all which was disappointing but they threw in a nice bathtub act for the ladies which I can appreciate. First time we ever went to a circus and it was a blast. Having recently gone to cirque du soleil iris, I can tell you it was nowhere near the level of sophistication as cirque, but it's an entirely different environment. CircusVargas is definitely a kids environment, we went just as adults, no kids, so sometimes the kids can be a little annoying running up and down with no parental control and waving bright flashing strobe lights near your face, but other than that, it was a lot of fun and these people really work hard and put on a good show. I recommend the bleacher seats near the middle entrance area. We went at night so it wasn't hot inside like others have complained about. Plenty of room and comfortable. The motorcycle routine was incredible (with 1, then 2 motorcycles going around in loops and upside down in a giant cage, including the mother, father, and son all doing it) and the trapeze stunts were well done. You get a 2 hour show for $25 a person and these people really earn their money and it felt good to support a small organization of traveling performers. Food is expensive, I just got the cotton candy for $4. It was hard to find this as they didn't give good directions. It's inbetween topanga plaza and promenade mall on the south side of the street and was'nt well lit up at night, so you will need to pay close attention to it before Victory and bring your GPS maybe. Recommended especially for families to bring your kids, but adults who have never been to a circus and want to see what its like you will have fun, especially if you don't mind some annoying kids running around and people getting up and down constantly throughout the show. Just understand that environment and prepare for it and you will have a good time. read more

Enjoyed the performances. These guys did a nice a job training for these acts. I also liked that they didn't use any animals. The show was supposed to be two hours long but it ended fifteen minutes early and they used a fifteen minute break. So in reality it was a one and a half hour show. It was still worth it though. What wasn't worth it was the concessions. They wanted eight dollars for a small slushee drink and four dollars for a 16oz bottle water? Good luck with that. HOWEVER---- they really should forewarn you about the lack of air conditioning!! It was a 90+ degree day and I estimate it was about 100 in the tent. We left before the end of the show, sadly. If I had not been paying attention, I'm fairly certain my 3-month-old would have passed out from the heat!!! Why did we not just leave, I'm sure you're wondering.
