Marshall, the manager at Riverwatch Cinemas is running his own gem. Riverwatch is a community hub where people of all kinds can find company, healthy escape, fun, life, and good old-fashioned nights out at the movies. Marshall is always on the floor, zipping around and making sure both his customers and his team are happy and running well. A little while back, during the thick of my Ph.D. dissertation deadline, I showed up at Riverwatch a couple of hours before meeting my husband for a movie. All of the decent coffee shops were already closed, but I needed somewhere to work before the movie. Marshall not only allowed me to come in early and work in the nice dining/bar area, but he also checked on me regularly, shared his love and passion for his work with me, and made a wonderful impression on me. I now understand why Riverwatch is the place to be! Movies are constantly sold out, the setting is lively and appealing, and Marshall should be credited for this. Whenever we are down and just need to cheer up or want something fun to do when loved ones visit, we get so excited to go to the movies at Riverwatch. Parking was extremely easy and convenient so no issues there. It's located behind the JCP at the Statesboro mall and across from Walmart. The building itself is a yellowish color, fairly hard to miss. If you're driving an EV there is a dealership next door with a public charging station so heads up! Upon entering everything seemed fine. There were multiple employees behind the counter and customers getting drInks and waiting for friends but no line. We purchased our tickets using the Atom app. I say that to bring up a small tiff. You have to go to the counter to scan your purchased tickets.. I may very well be a movie theater snob coming from a larger AMC back in Washington but they would have employees standing by the entrance to check all tickets and scan app tickets so there is no need to wait. Not a huge deal because as I said there was no line so it was easy. Onto why I left the star rating I did. The bathrooms. This is SO important for a business and I wish owners and management understood that. The bathrooms here Have great locations so kudos! However, they smell like a porter potty. This isn't being overly dramatic this is being as real as one could be. I walked in and the smell was immediately overwhelming. There was paper all over the floor and mirrors were covered in a film like substance so you couldn't actually see your reflection. Think of a poorly taken care of rest stop. Next up, the theater. We walked in to the theater with two other couples along with a ton of trash. I want to give the benefit of the doubt and say maybe they hadn't had the chance to clean yet BUT again to me being a snob. Every theater I've been to has employees WAITING for the movie to end to clean right away. And if you walk in early you are kicked out haha but hey that's how it goes. The popcorn tastes fine (always fresh), they got the snacks any theater has and it's always been kept fairly well maintained & cleaned. Depending on the time and day, you'd run into swarms of highschoolers or kids around that age loitering around, but most the time, I went to see my movies late and had the theater to myself and few others. Across the parking lot are restaurants you can grab a meal before or after you show and there are plenty of parking spots, that's never been an issue. I enjoy my viewings here and definitely will continue to go.
