This time instead of exploring their packaged snack products I thought about how much room we have left in our car and flying it home so I decided against it. I did buy 3 of their small cup size Blue Bell dark chocolate ice cream- for all of us but the cashier gave only one spoon. It tasted so good I had hubs go get me a large size one since I didn't eat a normal lunch and it was past 5 pm. While I waited in the car with the grandpup. I wanted to find some Bucee items for Doc since she's been our road trip driver plus made all the arrangements for hotels, tickets to parks, dinner show, etc. We all got different things: hubs got small bags of jerky, Doc got her favorite brisket sandwich to share with her Frenchie, a sausage on a stick and 3 peach cobblers for each of us to try. I like the large amount of clean restroom stalls plus soap. The cone of warmed sugary pecans and cinnamon bites were a sweet snack- finally gone from the first Buc-ee's a week ago. Before leaving Doc had us take a selfie and a nice gentleman also took a couple for us too.

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but... my last visit here was less than satisfactory. We grabbed lunch on our way to Houston. Our lunch consisted of brisket sandwich, chicken tenders & fries, and the three meat sandwich. I'm pretty sure their meat is not a true cut of brisket. Its consistency is like mush, and not like muscle fibers. There was nothing lean brisket vs fatty brisket. The brisket had holes throughout, making it look even more like an ultra processed deli meat or even lab grown. I was disgusted, to say the least. They also have ZERO options for people conscious of the ingredient lists. We bought popcorn and the bag was open at the bottom. I opted the top and it was super stale. I realized it was open on the bottom and the store game me a hard time about exchanging it. It's pretty clear the sealing process failed for this bag. We won't be shopping here anymore, nor will we eat their food. But if you're visiting Texas and come across one, it's a fun stop to pass time.

While this store is much smaller the similarities do not go unnoticed. Clean bathrooms, hot prepared foods, lots of beverage choices, snacks, and touristy souvenirs are just a few of the things you will find here. One thing that did trouble me was that there weren't prices on things. I saw a cute stuffed toy I considered purchasing, but I couldn't find a price. Saw a cool baseball cap I considered purchasing--no price. I did like that it wasn't as crowded as its competitor. This gave us the opportunity to browse without the crowds. The staff seemed somewhat friendly. Would we go back? Possibly. Oh, in case you were wondering, there were no Beaver Chips.

BUT the prices of the food seemed VERY VERY high. For instance, a TINY brisket/potato taco (which I could eat in like 3 bites) was $9!!!! No thanks. Cashier was friendly. It's easy to access off the feeder, and the parking lot is laid out in a way that helps reduce traffic. The mcdonalda here has its own drivethrough. It also has a big seating area and several ordering screens so you don't get stuck in a line. The restrooms are spacious and clean. I wish they had paper towels in addition to the air dryers but unfortunately they don't. The convenience store has all the usual things and some extra gift shopping items. They do now have electric car chargers ! However, they could use more gas pumps. They have a reasonable amount but here (more than other places) people will leave their car parked in a spot to go inside and there's often a wait. One of my favorite things (as someone who travels with dogs) is they have a lot of nice grassy areas not directly on the busy feeder road.

Part restaurant, part convenience store, part traveler's haven, they do it all and do it all well. If you want a full Southern-style home-cooked meal, you can have that at Diane's Diner. If you want snacks and drinks, that's fine, too. If you want wine or microbrews, they've got it. If you just need to go potty, you won't find a cleaner place to do your business. And if your dog needs to do the same, well they've even got Rowdy's Rest Stop just for dogs to pee, poop, and play. Very friendly staff. Can't say enough about that, but it makes all the difference in what makes Morton's best. Although I have to admit I'm a devout fan of Buc-ee's, I sure wish there were more than just the one Morton's location. It's so well-done, I couldn't believe there aren't more. A hot food stall has breakfast items (breakfast tacos, sandwiches, kolaches, etc) in the morning and lunch has a bunch of bbq options. I got a bbq mac and cheese but it was pricey at $10 for a small portion. The peach kolache I ate is probably the best one I have tried in Texas so far. The Texan is definitely worth a stop if you need to refuel while in Port Aransas.
