The hallway stinks like an ashtray. We had a difficult time getting into our room; apparently, someone installed the handles upside down. The room didn't smell any better than the hallway. There wasn't a comfortable chair in the room just a straight back dining chair. After 45 minutes, we realized that the room wasn't cooling down (it's 95* outside). We called the front desk to ask for a new room. They moved us across the hall, but we had to go downstairs to get the room key. The new room was improved and had furniture. It appears they are remodeling as there are beds and other furniture in the hallway leaning against the wall. Why in the world would you give someone a nasty room when you've got much better rooms available? The second room still has some cosmetic issues, but at least it feels clean. The hotel was surrounded by a dirt parking lot, and the building was old and unkempt. There was an equally old building next to it...I think a truck stop. When we pulled in, there were three people sitting in lawn chairs smoking near an overfull garbage bin. They stared at us. As we got out of the car, two of the three put out their cigarettes and went inside. I immediately felt the urge to flee, but we were too tired to go further. The two were at the front desk, and the hotel stunk. The woman was actually sweet, but was dressed unprofessional. After giving us our key, I turned and got a look at the continental breakfast area. There was a dirty counter (mind you, it was about 9pm), with two cylinders, about 1/6th full of raisin bran. We walked by a laundry room, with sheets thrown on shelves, unfolded and a yellow hue. Once in the room, we stopped at the door and just stood there. I honestly wanted to run. My friend used the restroom... once she turned on the fan, it made a horrible rattle. The stench was terrible and I ran to the mattresses to check for bedbugs. Thankfully, the beds were very clean. The sheets elastic were shot. But thankfully they didn't come off the beds. My friend and I both said each of our beds were comfortable. We showered, dressed, packed up, and took off as soon as we could. I'm shocked Choice Hotel had this listed on their Friends & Family list. We both said the Rosebud Inn in Schitt's Creek was a step up from this gem. I'm not naturally a poor reviewer, but I would avoid this hotel at ALL costs.
