Customer service is clearly a thing of the past. I came in this evening with my niece. She…read moregrabbed Juices for herself and several others in the car. She sat them on the counter while I tried to decide what cocktail seltzer and/ or beer I wanted, once I decided, I went to the counter and asked the clerk, Laura to get it for me. She asked for my ID, to which I immediately passed it to her. She then asked if my niece was my daughter to which I answered "No." She then said she needed to see her ID. I asked why. Laura responded because she came in the store with you. I said and what difference does that make. She then said because she needed to see ID as she was still holding my ID. I asked why do you need an ID for her when I'm the one who asked for the drink and I'm purchasing it, additionally you saw her bring all these Juices up to the register. Laura continued saying it's because my niece came in the store with me. So I told my niece to go to the car, Laura said she still would refuse to sell me my items. I asked her if my 3 yr old comes in here will you need an ID for him since he came in with me. She stated no. I said well I'm not understanding the problem. I asked if there was a manager. Laura said yes. I asked to speak the manager. Laura said "oh she's not here," and I requested for her to call the manager because she's not making any sense when she's already gotten my ID. Laura said "I'm not disturbing her at home!" At this point things blew up out of proportion. I will admit I lost my cool, BUT this was completely avoidable. Even when asked if she would need an ID for my 14 yr old if she came in with me, Laura's response was "No, that's different." It's not even remotely different. Two people come into the store together, you don't know the age or relationship of either, but you don't ask for IDs for both. Scenario is the same. The sales associate Laura who not only lacks customer service skills, also lacks communication skills. She never once articulated why exactly she needed an ID for my niece who was with me. "Because she came in the store with you" is not a sufficient answer. Her off-putting tone, energy, and failure to justify her actions gave me that impression that she wanted to give us a difficult time because we we're African American. There's no place for that ignorance in 2024. I'm sure due to the location of the store, it gets its fair share of customers/ tourist, but I'm sure several people will gladly go across the street to CVS and pay more for better customer service. As a sales associate, customer service, equality for all races and people skills should be a high priority, and Laura definitely needs to go back to lesson one on all three.

Port A local of 16 years here, out of the 4 stores on the island, this is the best one. Stop there…read moreabout daily making the rounds at work, and it's the only stripes on the island I'll drive extra to go to. Pearl, Dennis, Lucy, solid people right there, I'd throw hands on their behalf. Also the tall dude who's into Rimworld. I've never been one for "brand/store loyalty", but this is the only one I can say I have loyalty to. Food & coffee is better than the other locations on the island, they keep it clean & stocked, and the team manning the ropes are absolutely top notch. If ever there were doubts as to the quality of this specific store, send em my way so I can either throw hands or twist an ear as to why they're objectively wrong.

This store has 15 doors of cold drinks as well as a large drink station. They literally have pallets of Miller, Coors, Ultra and seltzers on the floor. However, if you're a craft beer drinker, you'll be very disappointed at what you find here. They do sell the usual convenience store items along with a small selection of wines. They also have loads of ice, propane tank rentals, and firewood for sale. This is a good stop to resupply all of your beach needs. Pictures below.
