You approach the resort by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and no problem for our sedan. The Tesla nav system was accurate. We had no problems getting there and back. Kelly and Brian are excellent hosts. Brian can regale you with many anecdotes from Central Texas history, most of which I had not heard before, even though we've lived in the Lone Star State for 38 years. Our room was quiet, cool, and comfortable. The lobby is also quiet and is a great place to sit and read. There are two very sweet dogs that have the run of the place. We had a lot of fun interacting with them. You can walk the grounds and along the dirt roads with nearly zero traffic. I do recommend sturdy hiking boots, as cockleburrs are plentiful. There are also venomous snakes in this area, although we did not see any. Better safe than sorry. We will certainly return. Off the highway, down a narrow, winding paved road, onto a gravel road to seemingly nowhere, past goat ranches, llamas, and beautiful vistas to finally reach the gate and see three lovely little cabins. The hummingbird hideaway where we stayed is cozy, clean and inviting. The front porch is great for sitting, watching the hummingbirds and having s cup of coffee. Breakfast is served at 8:30, and is routinely on time and delicious, even accommodating gluten free diets. The owners and their small children are delightful, but remain out of the way unless needed ( or delivering breakfast). There's a TV in the room. I assume it works, but I never had the desire to turn it on and spoil the solitude. The B&B is within easy driving distance to all sorts of parks, refuges, LBJ's home, Fredericksburg, nice restaurants, wineries, distilleries and breweries. You won't lack things to do if you venture away from the B& B.

Most of the area have little to no service, but that's what one should expect when going on a retreat. If you need a place to recharge yourself and relax from the hustle and bustle, try this place! The location is a bit confusing to find at first, but it gets easier to navigate the area once you've settled in. The views are breathtaking and I forget that I'm in Texas sometimes. There are state parks in the area and Canyon of the Eagles which is only about a mile away. This is a piece of paradise you don't want to miss out on.

The bathroom lights flickered downstairs, the bathrooms had numerous moths or some type of flying winged insect in them, one downstair's bathroom had a wet floor by the toilet which may have been from a leaky toilet or pipes under the floor. The numerous flying insects were to me an indication that there was something wrong underneath the surface. The flying insects were seen day and night.

Every detail of this place is absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I were married here in April 2024 and we seriously talk about this venue and all of its magic at least once a week since then. We wanted to have a small intimate gathering that had a very organic look. In the spring, this place really comes to life, the birds, the butterflies, the way the light shines through the windows in La Casa De Joy, everything felt like a fairytale. The venue is tucked away in a sweet lakeside neighborhood as well so the drive there in the spring is country roads lined with wildflowers and bluebonnets which was an added plus. We rented the entire venue and had some guests stay in the other houses on the property while we stayed in La Casa De Joy and everyone absolutely loved it. We heard nothing but positive things from every guest. Such a unique venue. Not to mention, Travis, the property manager was an absolute delight to work with. Really so so kind and understanding of our wants and needs and was truly there to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be coming back to relive our wedding day each year with a stay at La Casa De Joy. Truly such a gem of an experience. We booked the King Alexander room, but were changed last minute to the Queen Elizabeth. We are on the tail end of a getaway weekend, so we wanted to rest and relax on our last night, before we go home. Pros - We were the only ones there, so it was nice and quiet. The beds were very comfortable. Cons - We were the only ones there, and had no one to help answer questions about the town, or help us when we couldn't get our TV to work (football games). We brought a sound machine, but had we not... you would be able to hear EVERYTHING in that house. Also, there was quite a bit of lights from the front of the house (outside) that flood the room at night. It was very bright. My biggest frustration came with the service. Usually they serve breakfast, but because the owner (I think?) was injured we got vouchers to the Bluebonnet cafe... sounds great ... except it's closed until January 2nd. We rely on yelp for quite a bit, but it would have been nice to have a human around to give recommendations of another local place to eat. It just wasn't a very traditional B&B experience. Everyone who left reviews said how awesome the food was ... and we left with empty stomachs. What a bummer! We ended up just packing up and heading back home. I certainly feel like I overpaid for what I got out of this experience. All in all... we were able to relax on our last night, and the B&B was very clean and cute. But I think next time we will just stay in Fredericksburg another evening.
