I was picked up downtown for the tour but for a slight fee, Carrie dropped me off at an Airport hotel.

The truth is, the Cultural Trail weaves into our city so seamlessly (thanks to the landscaping and design) that it's a natural part of the fabric that makes our downtown so special. I'm thrilled about the latest expansions and can't wait to see how we continue to celebrate and utilize this great win for Hoosier pedestrians.

This trail is a testament to the city's unique character, offering a glimpse into its hidden gems, from serene parks and vibrant playgrounds to eclectic restaurants and cozy coffee shops. The trail offers a sense of empowerment, allowing you to choose the mode of transportation that suits you best. Whether you conquer the 8-mile-long trail or opt for a shorter, more stroll, like my mom and I did, the choice is yours. We explored the downtown part of the trail, close to the federal building, all the way down to the river trail. It was a short distance but a journey filled with memorable experiences. One of the things I loved about the trail was how many interesting sculptures and pieces of art we saw along the way. Each one had a description and information about the artist, which added to the experience. We also stumbled upon some fantastic restaurants and coffee shops that we probably wouldn't have found otherwise. If you're visiting Indianapolis and looking for a fun and unique way to explore the city, check out the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. It's a gem that's worth discovering!

We booked a tour for the last one of this year. The tour was half walking and half driving. We opted to do the notable crime figures who were buried in the cemetery. Or as the description said: "On this tour, we'll learn about the more sensational stories in the Indianapolis news from the 1860s to the 1970s. A few stops we'll make will be to learn about the infamous Nancy Clem and the Cold Spring Murders; bank robber John Dillinger; the rising executive slain by his mistress in the 1950s; grave robber Hampton West; the 1977 exploits of kidnapper Tony Kiritsis; Dr. Helene Knabe's brutal unsolved murder in 1911; and the Marjorie Jackson case of 1977." The tour was two hours long and we did hit all of the spots the email mentioned. The foliage and serenity of the cemetery was very nice to take in. Our tour guide seemed more knowledgeable on some of the stops than others but it would be hard to keep it all straight. Most of the parts were spaced out so you needed to drive to the location and then get out to walk. Some of the spots walking were uneven. Overall it was a good way to take in the cemetery and learn about some notable people buried in there.

There's a whole neighborhood called Thornhurst in Carmel that's full of these awesome houses, and the neighborhood is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This tour lets you walk inside these houses and look around! This is literally my dream come true, because I've been eyeing these houses ever since I saw them in Carmel, and this tour actually lets me take a peek inside. The Holiday Home Tour is in its 21st year as of this writing. This year, there were four houses on the tour, each one on Thornhurst Drive, just off Main Street. You get to walk into each house, and there are volunteers inside who tell you about different features of the house. Be sure to take your shoes off before you enter! The tour this year cost $25 per ticket if you paid in advance, and $30 the day of. It's a little steep, but the money benefits the Carmel Clay Historical Society, so it's for a good cause going to good people. You also get a little trolley ride from the parking lot at Carmel Middle School to the houses that you toured. Whee! I'd definitely recommend this tour for anyone who loves mid-century modern architecture and design.

As luck would have it, we were the only 2 people that happened to reserve that particular date and time. Instead of cancelling the tour and asking us to reschedule, Amy gave us private tour of the Indy Beer Mile. The weather wasn't cooperating but that didn't stop us. We got a lot of great information and insight as we walked around the city. This wasn't only a beer tour, this tour also provided a lot of historical information. We saw some beautiful neighborhoods and historic buildings. The 4 stops we made provided us with great food and ample beer samplings. We were never rushed, we were able to enjoy the beer, the food and Amy's company. She has a lot of beer knowledge and is a great story teller. When the tour was done, we felt like we got to know the city, the people and its beer a lot better. We highly recommend this tour whether you're a local or a visitor.
