We first purchased the vinyl weave covers for our chairs years ago and they lasted about 8 years in the hot Colorado sun before they were no longer usable. We only took them inside when winter hit. If that doesn't speak to their excellent quality, I don't know what does! Our latest order was the orange canvas covers and again we couldn't be more pleased with the quality. I ordered steel butterfly chairs and white canvas slings from Circa 50 over 5 years ago. They arrived in a timely manner and in excellent condition. They have withstood Palm Springs heat, storms and a lot of use. I throw the slings in the wash and put them on the chair to dry. They still look like new. I had to order one new sling that was starting to weaken, I called and spoke directly to Steve. He was terrific to work with, he looked up my past order to assure I ordered the correct size. I received the sling within two weeks. Their website may not work as well as others but speaking to a live person was much better IMO. read more

I inherited a possibly 1930's Butterly chair that needed a new seat. I found a plethora of them online, ordered one to find that most, if not all are made for the folding type of this chair and not the rigid iron frame one I have. I found the website for Circa50 and was even more thrilled that I had to speak to a LIVE person to order a cover. Circa50 offers at least four (4) different sizes of covers and also you can combine measurements to assure you have the right fit for your chair. My new purple cover arrived in less than the two weeks I was told and is absolutely PERFECT!!! This is a handmade, bespoke, custom Beverly Hill quality cover. Tried calling many many times ... no answer - can't even leave a message. Emailed many times ... no answer. Finally emailed with a threat that I was going to call my CC company for a refund, and finally received an email response saying delivery would be the first week in April. Nothing. I had a very poor experience with this merchant and found both owners (Steve and Jeff) unprofessional and rude. I placed three online orders dated 5/5, 5/15 and 5/23 for the Maraham Girard Quatrefoil Pink fabric pillows and was NEVER informed it was out of stock until further notice. In addition, I was provided misinformation on 5/14 stating that the fabric would be in the following week. All communication was initiatiated by me to gather any information. I've ordered from Circa50 multiple times -- excellent products and customer service from Steve and Jeff. The website is easy to browse, and the white nylon butterfly chair covers are of fantastic quality and arrived quickly. The nylon is heavy duty and opaque, stitches are strong, and the white color itself is bright, saturated, and slightly warm. Thank you gentlemen for making these covers available for us. read more

These guys were the only vendor I dealt with out of hundreds, while in the process of furnishing an entire house from scratch, that SUCKED. Last November I ordered two, tri-color "Black/Brown/White" Butterfly Cowhide Chairs from them and when they arrived the hides were solid brown, looking nothing like what was indicated on their website. I e-mailed and asked if I could exchange the hides for something at least somewhat more similar to the "Black/Brown/White" product shots on their website, and "Steve" responded and said sure. I shipped the hides back, with delivery confirmation, and not only did I never receive replacements, they did not respond to any number of subsequent e-mails or phone calls over the following months inquiring about the status of the replacements. Just dropped off the face of the earth. It's been a year and basically I'm stuck with two butterfly frames that are obviously useless as chairs. Laughed out loud at the other negative comments about their so-called "customer service" I see here. Totally dead-on. Steer clear of this trainwreck if you value your sanity. read more

Can't praise Circa50 highly enough! After considering other sources and vendors, we purchased 5 butterfly chair covers in the tan vinyl. We ordered a single custom size that fit each frame beautifully, despite our vintage frames' minor differences. Jeff provided spectacular customer service throughout: I changed our color choice and purchased them over the span of several weeks, and he was accessible, accommodating, and helpful. The covers have been outside and open to the elements for a month -- looking as new as when purchased and cleaning up easily with a bit of water and a soft brush. They are comfortable, stylish, strong, and flawlessly-stitched. The tan color complements the flagstone patio and stucco walls of our Spanish bungalow. Misleading statements on their website. They state "We ship for free"--then you find out you've been charged for shipping. Worst custmer service I've experienced in years. It's as though they don't care if you buy from them or not. Product was over a week late. The only reason I gave them one star is because I could not post this without a star rating. Hmmm - package was sent. USPS screwed up the address and instead of sending to Canada, sent them to the UK instead. USPS won't deal with me, since I am not the originator of the shipment. Contacted Circa50 by email explaining, and asking very politely to give USPS a shout, and no response. Will try calling tomorrow, but I'm afraid I'll be out my $150 US, if Circa50's customer service sucks as people are saying here.... I would STRONGLY advise against ordering from this company online, as they are not equipped to do business online. I ordered butterfly chairs twice from this company. In both cases, the orders were significantly delayed. In one of the two cases, the chairs were very clearly bent out of shape. The first time I reached the company, they assured me that they have always made the chairs the same way and that the chairs were not bent. When I received the second set of chairs, it was quite obvious that the first pair were dramatically bent out of shape as I had suspected. When I called and emailed to let them know, they went radio silent. To this date, I still have not heard from the company. I am now in the process of disputing the charges. This cannot be a legit business, it must be a scam. A year and a half ago, spring of 2013, I called to order a replacement butterfly footstool cover in leather. It was an $80 order, but I thought it was worth it. To ensure the correct sizing, I sent them the torn leather cover at my own expense. In spite of attempting to follow-up by email and a hundred phone calls, it is now a year and a half later and I have never received a thing, let alone an honest reason why. They rarely answer the phone. When they do they play a game of "Oh, you want Jeff, he's in the office right now call him!" Or no, it's Steve that handles that, I don't know anything about it, but they're there right now, just give them a call at the other number. And then of course, the other number is never answered, and if I call the first number back, they don't answer then either. I mean, really. They told me they received my cover, they told me it was in production, and then they just stopped answering my calls, messages, and emails. I really suspect they're schizophrenic. Of course, they look great online, of course, we love the 50's designers, its's just that they're not who they say they are. They are not a legit business. No legit business would play this kind of a dodge game with a customer who only wants to give them money! If you think the reviews aren't bad read the "not recommended" reviews. They tell the whole story. Never has "Let the buyer beware" been more accurate. They made a fool of me every time I tried to get the truth. Now they have my old leather cover, and I'll never be able to replace it someplace else. I really hate them for what they did. read more

Unfortunately, if you just want to purchase one chair, you can't do business with Circa 50. I tried to order one at $280 (simple black frame with white cover), and received an email that I did not meet the minimum order of 2 chairs. I don't have the space for two chairs, and even if I ordered two with the intention of reselling, I know I won't be able to sell the 2nd chair for the $280 I paid for it, since there are so many vintage ones selling on ebay and craigslist for cheaper. I simply wanted a new one, and Circa50 is well known as the supplier for new butterfly chairs, so I thought I'd treat myself to something reliable that I wouldn't have to refurbish. I find their "Min. of 2" rule disappointing and a bit greedy. read more

I ordered Butterfly chair vinyl covers online from Circa50 eight years ago. As I remember, there was no problem with the order and I received them in a reasonable amount of time. They were very well made, they fit wonderfully, and looked pristine and beautiful. I left them outdoors in Ohio summer weather from June into October - and they held up and lasted for a good five years until the toll of natural weathering (and a heavy party guest!) caused the perimeter stitching to give out at several mounting corners. The vinyl fabric itself never faltered. I let several years pass - but have now replaced them. Again - the product is as nice as it was eight years ago - and I don't believe the price increased at all! This time, even though all the info I entered was correct, the order page would not complete my purchase. SO - I called Circa50 in Manchester Center, Vermont on their 877 toll free number. It rang and rang - but I decided to just let it ring and see if I got anywhere. After about two minutes, my call was courteously answered by a very cordial man. He apologized for the online ordering problem and immediately took my order over the phone. He gave me the current estimated production time (two weeks). After completing the order he initiated a very nice conversation, asking my opinion on their product (since I had ordered before). He told me all about the materials used, their production process, quality points of their product, etc. I was impressed with his customer service and he did not rush through the ordering process or ensuing conversation. The only reason I didn't give them a five-star rating was because of the online glitch and the long wait to have my call answered. But, otherwise - I'm a happy camper! read more

I ordered two butterfly chairs (the minimum) with canvas covers and one cowhide cover in the beginning of August and was told their current orders (mine presumably included) would ship by the end of the month. On August 17, they charged my credit card. When I emailed in early Sept to inquire of the status, I was told I was "in the cue" (sic) and it shouldn't be much longer but no date was set up. When I again inquired on Sept 30, I was told they expected to fill their current orders by the end of October. Then I read the other Yelp reviews (the ones only visible if you click on the "not recommended" link) and was shocked by what experiences some other customers had. I had no confidence that my order wouldn't be postponed again and again or that the wrong items would be sent. When I asked for a date for shipment and informed them (as if they didn't know) that they are not permitted by Visa to charge before shipping, I received no response. They should have told me the reason for this delay. Is it backordered? Are they mining the iron to make the chairs themselves? Are there no black/brown/white cattle anymore? I cancelled the order and Visa credited my account since they did not ship when promised. I've never had this kind of experience with a retailer before being so vague about an order and that I had to initiate the contact regarding the status. I notice the only 5 star rating are from people ordering only covers, so maybe it's a furniture order that causes a problem. I really wanted those chairs and unfortunately Circa50 appears to be the only retailers of the original type of butterfly chair. What an incredible disappointment. read more
