Before there was Musée d'Orsay, there was Jeu de Paume…read more This was the Musée where all the Impressionist, Post Impressionist and Pointillism art was on display. We saw Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Georges Seuret, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas here and those are just a few. Since the mid-eighties, almost all of these artists have found a much larger display of their art across the Seine at Musée d'Orsay. Today, this is a more a Musée of Photography, or Galerie Nationale de l'Image. I liken it to the Georges Pompidou Center which has more modern art. I feel this is a wonderful visual place to start your artistic journey and would absolutely recommend visiting here.

Our kids favorite thing to do here was the water play area, and the other spot where they could build forts. There were many games and interactive items. I wouldn't say a lot of this section was overly science. But my kids loved it. There is a nice playground near the museum but it was so hot, we didn't spend much time outside. This place is nice to escape the heat even if the air conditioning isn't overly strong.

There were several large youth groups that went ahead of us with French audio tours. It seems each tour's language can be customized and accommodate up to 12 adults at once, but is also intimate enough for two. You're self-guided by recorded audio that happens in 3D surround sound, lighting effects, and doors opening. It may feel like you're alone, but you're never really "alone" because you're being filmed on cameras the whole time. Various tour scenes include a ride behind the main stage screen looking out at the auditorium, a simulation of the view from the REX tower, a private screening room office, a projection booth with various types of tech, a green screen room, a voice over recording room, and a special effects room. I may have forgotten a few things but even my very jaded spouse enjoyed himself in the end- so I think it will pass the teen test too. The more dramatic you are for the cameras and recordings, the more hilarious it is when you see the footage in the end. If you like the edited footage, you can take it home on a souvenir USB for about 12€.

I was overwhelmed by the Rex's history as a 2800 seat propaganda center during the German occupation of Paris and later as a POW facility. Knowing its history made it difficult to watch The Fall Guy The facility is almost a hundred years old and it feels it. The seats are old, small, and uncomfortable. In its proper context, I'm sure it was magical in its day. It is a one time experience.

Auguste Rodin designed the two figures on the exterior front facade when he was a student. Wow. Beautifully done space and likely for the geeks of this industry only, as the collection is extremely narrow in focus. But again, if old movie cameras are your thing, you'll be in heaven here.

But it was worth waiting, I got overwhelmed by Mr. Lynch's diverse art collection from painting to short films very carefully arranged on the whole exhibition area. The Fondation Cartier is a little remote from the rest of Paris but it's such a quiet and perfect building to display art...it's far from old boring traditional way of shows , the curators always do a fabulous job... Anyone can go and appreciate art and learn about artists, kids , adults.. The gift shop could have a bit more stuff but it's not the end of the world... Funny enough, I love the Brooklyn museum in NY and they organize similar exhibitions...
