Balaka is an excellent Bangladeshi and Indian retaurant and take away situated in Horsell. Due to…read moretheir success they have recently taken over larger premises in the village. We tend to get a take away and this is either delivered free (orders over £10) or collected (with 10% off if the order is over £15). The food is always freshly cooked and portions are generous. You'll find all the curry house favourites on the menu together with some more unusual dishes. As a starter the prawn puree comes highly recommended. A flat, light bread, stuffed with lightly spiced prawns and garnished with salad and lemon. The flavour is superb and, if it were available as a main course I'd order it every time! The Biriani dishes are very good and, in particular the vegetable curry that accompanies is rich and flavoursome, unlike many curry houses. Several of the special dishes are not available for takeaway meaning that when you're hooked on this place, and you surely will be, you will just have to visit the restaurant. The monkfish mazza, in particular, is to die for! The restaurant also caters for functions (in house and externally) and has been featured and recommended in various newspapers and TV shows. I'll second all of those recommendations.

There are a lot of curry restaurants in and around Woking, so I am loath to dub this one the best,…read morebut it's certainly in the running. Its main USP is that the menu consists of a list of sauces, and then, having selected one of those, you can choose whatever meat, fish, or vegetable you would like, cooked in your specified style. As well as the standard chicken, lamb, and prawn, you can also opt for monkfish, lamb chops, and a few other interesting options. The restaurant also boasts some award-winning dishes which are proudly displayed in a separate list. The food is simply delicious, and although it isn't cheap, the portions are very generous. The restaurant is smartly furnished, if rather small, and the staff are scrupulously polite. We always find the service to be very quick and attentive.

My girlfriend & I have been here 3 times now & every dish has been exemplary. The menu on a 1st scan doesn't appear as extensive as some but don't let that worry you as the food including fish dishes are amongst the best we've tasted. Although we've only visited during the spring & summer months, log fires will make a winter meal worth venturing out in poor weather. It sports a fairly large outside area but am not sure about smoking. We rarely bother with starters but would expect them to be of an equally high standard as the main & vegetable courses. We have tried a number of chicken, prawn & fish dishes all of which seem to have more flavour than many restaurants. The atmosphere is wonderful, staff friendly & helpful. We will try a lamb dish next time which is very dependant on decent ingredients & where many lesser restaurants fall down. Well worth a visit not the cheapest by any stretch but still good value! My girlfriend & I returned Autumn 2010 the food was merely just good rather than excellent so drops a star. Returned May 2013 Food was very good enough to return again.

We ask the restaurant to choose the menu in advance, giving them the opportunity to serve their best. We visited the Tiger Garden in May 2012. This was the clubs second visit to the restaurant the last time being April 2011. The service was erratic to begin with but we soon enjoyed some great food. The restaurant is in a historic building (c1420) however the decor of main restaurant is plain and does not make use of the history. After a complimentary liqueur served at the end of the meal we were invited out the back to see the cockpit. This completely changed our view of the venue and its history. Windsor Curry Club rated the traditional style Tiger Garden 7.81 out of 10. The total cost of the meal (Inc. Drinks & Service) was £38.00 a Head.
