I forgot to mention in my original review that there's a coffee shop on the ground floor and a bar on the second floor, both of which are cosy and lovely and sell all your traditional bar and cafe like goodies! I just love how traditional and original the GFT is; just walking towards if from the outside, it looks like a gorgeous 1930's New York cinema or theatre and that's what I love about it! They also do a loyalty card which I think I'm going to invest in!

The reason we came here is for one of the main reasons why the GFT is so brilliant ~ it offers a variety of films you just couldn't see on the big screen anywhere else in Glasgow. We saw a documentary about a Riot Grrrl singer/band who I loved & adored from the '90's (it's called The Punk Singer & it really is brilliant) - not really mainstream cinema audience stuff! Since we last visited the GFT has had a wee revamp & also now has an addition of a 3rd screen downstairs. It is essentially where the cafe used to be & when we first walked in I was a bit baffled as to where the cafe had moved too. It is now upstairs and downstairs towards the back they now have a wee coffee & snacks kiosk with a couple of tables/seats where you can also sit & wait before your film starts. We ordered some snacks & a coffee and sat for about 10 minutes. In this time I think I managed about 3 sips of my flat white which was hotter than the sun! *ouch* It was, once cooled, a reasonably nice coffee (note: they don't serve any soya/non-diary milk) if a tad pricey. Luckily for us our film was being shown in the new screen (screen 3) and as soon as we entered I was in love! It has been done out beautifully & it has a really cosy almost 'home cinema' feel to it. It is quite a small screen with only 60 seats in total. The seats themselves were lovely, soft leather style seats which were so comfortable AND they had cup-holders! Yay! Something I always felt was lacking in the other screens. As soon as we sat down we were smiling. The temperature of the screen was also pleasant - I usually find Cineworld or other cinemas too chilly at times so to not have to sit huddled underneath my coat during the film was a bonus. I love that the GFT exists in Glasgow because it truly is unique in this great city. The mix of old, new, Arthouse, World & more mainstream films being shown on any one week goes to show the eclecticism of it's audience & how well it caters for the film buffs in & around Glasgow. They occasionally put on theme or more one-off evenings ~ I remember in the early 2000's coming here to see local bands introducing their favourite films, some bands even performing on the night & other events where some bands would play along live to a film as it was being screened. Brilliant. They have a Loyalty Card scheme where by you earn points for each visit & points = money off tickets. They also have a Cinecard which is £32 a year for money off & points. You can also get the Orange Wednesday deal and the Sunday Herald Film Club 2-for-1 offer as well. So a trip here may not work out as pricey as you might originally think. It's a beautiful building and is well worth a visit at least once in your lifetime. I am sad about the demise of the cafe downstairs as I always thought it was really cool but if losing that means gaining a new (lovely) screen then it was worth it.

This new Vue Cinema at the Fort is definitely substantially smaller than the one I'm used to in Hamilton, but I think I prefer it for this reason. Situated above 4 restaurants in the middle of a shopping centre, you'd think it would be absolutely chaotic, but it was relatively quiet the night we went, and that was for orange Wednesdays as well! The staff seemed pleasant and competent for a new opening, and I thoroughly like this wee cinema! I'm sure it'll get busier the more people notice that it's there, especially with the restaurants underneath!

If you are buying snacks here be aware that there is an Asda just a few minutes and you can buy your items there, some items nearly four times cheaper. A pack of M&M's where £3.95 and Asda was £1.00 that's s massive £2.95 of a difference. The cinema area was small but the seats where comfortable. I couldn't get a phone or wifi signal anywhere. I would come back to this cinema.

The staff at the cinema were really understanding but sadly could not do much about it. They let me know that they already tried to have the music lowered, but the venue above clearly didn't care. I even went to speak to someone during the intermission, but nothing changed. I was really looking forward to seeing one of my favourite musicals on the big screen, but it was extremely overshadowed by the thumping upstairs.

It was a Saturday afternoon and the place didn't look like it had been cleaned since the Friday late-night showing, there was a huge stain in the centre of the screen and I swear that the sound (contrary to Lucasfilm requirements) was not even in stereo, never mind THX surround. I was so disgusted that I wrote to the then-owners of the cinema AND Lucasfilm to complain. Never heard back from either of them. Yesterday I was attending a private screening of some dance films as part of the Cottier Chamber Project/West End Festival, and I'm glad to say it was a whole new experience. The cinema bore no resemblance to the one I remembered - what were these swanky new leather seats? Even the entrance was changed, they had room for a bar next to it, and you could even take your drinks into the cinema! How very civilised indeed. Because of the reconstruction, the screens are smaller than I remembered, but the layout is much improved so you no longer feel that you're looking sideways at the screen. It is definitely several orders of magnitude better than the old fleapit that it used to be. There were some presentation issues with the video formats not being properly set in advance so there were a couple of false starts with the films. It was a pretty informal occasion so it wasn't enough to spoil the afternoon; but for that reason I'm only giving it 3 stars this time around. I may revise that after a future visit.

It's been…read morea good number of years since I last was at the Quay & I'm sad to say that time hasn't been kind to it. Approaching the Odeon you could see it was looking a bit worn on the outside, *queue dramatic music* just like looking in the mirror the ravages of time have creased its once youthful façade. Entering into the foyer it really looked quite shabby, yes there's a fairly colourful Costa Coffee outlet, but I think it just looked that way as the rest of the place looked like a bomb had gone off. There were posters stating they were in the process of refitting the space, but it just looked awful, not the kind of sight you would want customers to see. The ticket machines were secured to the wall by plywood, there were layers of dust on the only table available to non-Costa customers and the refreshment stand looked like it'd been put together from spare parts from the 90's. What was also fairly bewildering is that there's no ticket counter, so effectively the concessions staff had to shuffle between shoveling popcorn to checking tickets (there were only two in the place aside from the bored looking Costa staff). That said, the cinema itself was pretty good, it seemed clean (it was dark when I went in), the screen was fairly large & I liked that it was quieter than Cineworld. The one thing I (& other Yelpers) don't get is why charge people extra money for premium seating when there was barely anyone in the entire cinema & there weren't enough staff to even check?? I really hope that the cinema can revive its fortunes as it's a shame that Cineworld has seemingly monopolised the cinema goers of central Glasgow (apart from the awesome GFT). One thing I'd add, is it too much to ask for an arcade game or two to while away those empty few minutes before you can go in? Seriously, Virtually Fighter or one of the Konami soccer arcades (from the 90's - yeah kids before Fifa!) would be a lot better than sitting in an empty foyer awkwardly pretending you're not the only customer in there...

That isn't to say it's completely empty, it's usually pretty busy but if you go during the week it's a lot better and you can avoid all the crowds. If you have a car, then it's so easy to get to and there's more than ample parking, you also have the choice of various differents chain restaurants such as Chiquitos and Frankie & Bennys before or after your film so it's a one stop trip and you avoid the hustle and bustle of the town centre. If you don't have a car then I'm not really sure how to get there unless you walk or get a taxi from the centre of town which is a bit of an annoyance. To be honest, unlike the other reviewers, I haven't noticed the tickets here being any more expensive than other cinemas in Glasgow and they also do Orange Wednesdays too! There's a huge selection of pick and mix, a Ben & Jerrys counter and they sell Ice Blasts, my favourite!

Staff were friendly enough and, whilst it made for a nice evening, like I said, it all feels a bit stuck in time. I just don't think I'd travel out here again given that the impressive Cineworld and iconic GFT reside in the city centre surrounded by an abundance of fantastic places to eat and drink. The Showcase surroundings pale in comparison. S'alright.

It was refreshing to get served right away without waiting in a long queue for tickets and the staff were friendly and efficient - refreshment area was well staffed and no long queues either. The decor is pretty tired but I actually really liked the retro vibe! There were even drinks fountains and dodgy geometric patterned carpets. Great selection of hot drinks, snacks and everything you would expect from a well stocked cinema. The seats in the screens themselves aren't as plush and comfortable as a more modern cinema, and the screen was a bit smaller that I expected but the viewing quality and sound was excellent. An overall pleasant, efficient and convenient experience!

I've signed up for SeeFilmFirst and most of the time the previews are held at this particular Odeon and have been here more than a few times to see the latest flicks. The screens offer ample seating and they're always at a comfortable temperature. There's nothing worse going to the cinema to find yourself shivering the whole way through... but then it isn't exactly great when it's too warm either, especially when the guy next to you has forgotten to put on his Lynx that morning. This Odeon also has a great range of (overpriced) bites to eat and every time I visit I always get an Ice Blast, mixed, of course.

If there's a flick you wanna see, you couldn't do any worse than here - unless you go to the GFT.

I'd also suggest that if you don't like ballet (i.e. you need words/lyrics to appreciate stories being told) then you probably won't like this too much, but just for its sheer uniqueness you should give it a visit. Perhaps start with the 40 minute show and work your way up.

Great news we have a cinema back at the fort!…read more Last time I visited the old cinema the floor was sticky and the old place stunk. But now we have a fresh cinema that all shiny & brand new! Plenty of screens & toilets. Last few times it's been relatively quiet, which is nice! You can choose your seat and chill. It has a costa, so you even grab a coffee and take it into the screen with you, beats a fizzy drink sometimes! Opposite costa is the odeon's fast food bit with nachos and drinks etc to get you munching through the moo ooo vie!

On Friday and Saturday book your tickets online and collect them. I was let down the other week when my showing was sold out but the guy was really nice behind the til and gave us VIP seats for our alternative viewing. Like I said..super nice. There are also loads of choices for food either before or after in the surrounding restaurants.

Cineworld in town: faaaaaar too busy, I had the misfortune of going one Wednesday night (clementine special pass day) and was virtually in a different postcode when I joined the queue. Also it's rather pricey. Odeon at the Quay: this place is dirty and smelly, and what's with the seat upgrade thing? What they really mean is you can pay an additional surcharge not to have to sit on some kind of medieval bottom torture device. Rubbish. GFT: understandably the film lovers choice, and its independent status and classic style is certainly worth a great deal. It's my second favourite cinema, but egad, if it isn't the most middle class, pompous place sometimes. Have you ever been there to see any smarmy, self important, clever-clever, foreign language comedies there? I have, and the self-satisfied smirking of my fellow cinema goers almost had me throwing my popcorn (that's if they sold such crass sub-bourgeois commodities as popcorn). And so, the Empire in Clydebank. Quite far from home, yes. Limited to only mainstream blockbuster releases, yes that too. Dirty with every surface permacoated in a greasy film, yes, also the case. The threat of casual violence consistently in the air, alas also a fair point. But whenever I've been it's been damn cheap, utterly dead (I've rarely queued for a ticket there) and without incident. There was that time during the second Matrix film that a massive fight broke out behind me, but we were given free tickets to a future film showing of our choice. At least I think that was the reason. Maybe they were so ashamed about the utter absence of any redeeming features offered by second Matrix film that they felt they had to give something back. My mum took her grandson to a viewing of Jumanji on Saturday she is 76 years old there for…read morepensioner price 6-50 . my nephew kids price 6-50 . the guy serving her spoke to his colleague the whole transaction not listening properly. my mum said he was talking bout going out that night and what he was gonna get up to. it wasn't until she got home that she realised she had been charged 8-50 instead of 6-50.(his lack of customer service had angered her a bit) she couldnt go back until Monday and spoke to a girl who got manager, the manager was rude and blunt and waved a hand in my mums face saying she should have dealt with it on Saturday and walked away from my mum .she threw her receipt away in frustration. I emailed company got no response and expressed my frustration on social media (in a polite way) I got a reply saying they will look in to it. and basically got same response as my mum did. no mention about the guy not doing his job right or how abrupt the manager was.( I wonder if she would have been that abrupt had it been a younger woman or a large man )( I think not !!) anyways will never set foot in an empire cinema again I have a staff night out next month and 33 of us are going to see A Quiet Place 2 we are going to odeon cinema to see it . hope this helps.
