If you visit Glasgow, Cineworld is a must see. We were told to come for a 4DX movie. We watched "Cold Pursuit". The theater was very clean, and among the most comfortable I've ever seen! The seats move with the movie, and water or mist will spray into your face, as the movie dictates (gun shots, water scenes, etc). They also have large fans that will generate a cool breeze during certain movie scenes, and smells are added as well (gun smoke). This is the King of all movie theaters! There's also a bar in the cinema. We were able to have a few cocktails while waiting for our movie. I learned after, that they also offer a VIP theater, where drinks and food are brought to you! As I stated, if you're in Glasgow, you MUST add this to your list! read more

I have to give Cineworld 5 stars as it is practically my second home! (well, technically 3rd after my place of work...) Yes it's huge, corporate & expensive but damn it I love it. I shall give you the main reasons I love the Cineworld so: 1) It is right smack bang in the middle of town. Very handy for those of us that do not drive, especially as it is very close to Buchanan bus station, Queen Street station & Buchanan Street subway. Very handy indeed. 2) They created the wonderful invention that is the Cineworld Unlimited Card. For those of you not familiar with this concept the CUC is a membership card that can be used in any Cineworld cinema in the UK (excluding some v.expensive central London one though) and for the price of £15.90 a month (this used to be £9.99 when I first joined MANY years ago!) you can watch as many films as you like. There are absolutely no restrictions on the amount of films you want to see at all. Occasionally I have gone to see 3 films in one day or 5 films in one weekend! This, for a film lover like myself, is BRILLIANT. No having to worry about if you have cash/money to be able to afford to go and no limit on how many times you can go a day/week/month either. £15.90 a month is great considering the average cost of going as an adult is anything from £7.50 to £14.70 per film! Ouch. You also get a 25% discount on all food & drinks too. You can now book online. Also 3D films are cheaper too. In my (square) eyes it just makes sense to have an Unlimited Card if you love films. 3) They have LOADS of screens. As far as I know this Cineworld is the biggest/tallest cinema in Europe. Impressive that we have it in our beloved ole Glasgow. It is HUGE! You just have to go right to the top screens & then look out the window for a lovely view of Glasgow or take the see-through lift down the way to bottom & try not to get even a wee bit scared ;-) 4) The seats are pretty darn comfortable compared to some other cinemas (out of respect for them I shall name no names...) You have a good amount of leg room also compared to other cinemas. Also they have these seats called D-Box and they are HILARIOUS! If you can afford to pay the extra £4.60/5.60 then they are something everyone should at least experience once, if only for a good giggle. Some of the vibrations you get with them can also be quite nice...mmm...haha! 5) They cater for many different folk. They have Movies for juniors, Autism Friendly screenings, Disabled access, Guide Dogs allowed alongside the Subtitled and Audio Described films too. So those are my main reasons for always returning again (and again) to Cineworld. If there is one thing I would bring back is the screening of old films on a Tuesday. This was a GREAT idea and I really don't know why they stopped it? Also they used to show a lot more World Cinema films than they do now, although for all you Bollywood fans they do screen lots of Bollywood films, which is really good, but I do miss the World Cinema screenings and special events/mini film festivals/themes they would have every month or so. They occasionally have special preview events & premiere's here, also they have now started screening opera's, theatre productions, live events, concerts, comedy shows & other such things. Yes, the food is horribly overpriced but I do actually like it...! Another thing I have just thought of is even when I have been stood in a looooong queue (usually on an Orange/EE Wednesday) the queues do move pretty quickly. I like this as I know even if I see a big queue I'll not be waiting pure AGES. Cineworld, I love you. The best cinema in Glasgow. Hands down, no questions asked, stop the bus, etc. As is often pointed out, it's the tallest cinema in the world at 62m high, which equates to 18 screens and 6 floors of movie majesticness. I can't say I've ever had a bad time in here - the staff have always been helpful, the toilets always clean, and even the twitter feed goes out of it's way to be helpful. On the down side, the popcorn and juice is priced at usual cinema madness prices, but that goes with the territory these days, I'm afraid. If there was an IMAX screen here, it would probably be perfect. As it is, go up to the top floor and take in the amazing view of Glasgow, especially at night - it's breathtaking. PRO TIP: Register an account online, book your seats online and you save some cash as opposed to buying on the day - plus you don't have to queue, and can use the swanky machines! read more

I have been going to this cinema for years now has anything changed? well yes the price has more than doubled in fact and has there been an improvement in the cinema experience well no. The last time l was here there was what you could call a scuffle, argument and sort of fight between two women that took staff by surprise and didn't know what to do. The screens are fine but the seats are a joke, there is no leg room and are so uncomfortable. At least the problems with the toilets have been sorted as before they where a disgrace and resembled an old mans pub, they have been renovated but that smell is still there could do with a good bleaching and air freshener. The food there is expensive you are better to pop into pound land and buy your popcorn there. There is still that strange smell of urine in the air but I have been told it's possibly the popcorn. read more

My favourite cinema in the world. Whenever I wanted to catch a flick whilst a student at Glasgow uni, this was my go to stop. Love the vibe and the aestethic. Only complaint is how tight the seats are and the ignorant kids who come through sometimes. Anyway, it was nice to go here and hear an American accent and feel at home whilst watching a movie lol. There's currently 2 main multiplex cinemas - Odeon at the Quay and Cineworld Renfield St. I'm a fan of Cineworld - the foyers are always clean (toilets get really iffy at the weekend). The staff are usually great and tend to be really helpful if you have any questions. I've been a regular here for years, so i have an Unlimited card - if you go even just twice a month, you'll be saving money. Pricewise, Cineworld is a little cheaper than Odeon and have lots of discounts like family tickets and early showing reductions. My only gripe is their introduction of allocated seating for every show. This started a few months ago - but i remember it being in place when this was UGC. The issues then are still the same now - no-one can find their seats, you end up stuck beside noisy and (to be blunt) total stinkers who obviously haven't washed in weeks. Hopefully this daft practice will stop soon! I've given 4 stars because, issues with toilets and allocated seating aside, i love film and this complex give you a wide variety, not just blockbuster. Try out the DBox seats - but save that for a big action or spacey film :) read more

I'm a Cineworld Unlimited member so I'm here quite a lot. I need to see about 4 movies a month to make it worth the subscription fee and I usually end up seeing more than that, although there's definitely the odd month when I see almost nothing. As a cinema it's fine, it functions perfectly well and I've rarely experienced any probelms with seeing the films I wanted to watch. Of course, it's very proud of being the talest cinema in the world. On a clear day from the top floor you get a pretty good view of the city. It's good that it has lots of screens because there's never a risk that you'll miss out on the next big blockbuster - it's bound to have hundreds of screenings. I just can't help thinking "tallest cinema" is a really weird superlative. Maybe that's just me. There's a licensed cafe on the second floor that's a good place to hang out before your film starts. As a rule, during the first week of screenings, most big films start 30 minutes after their scheduled time because of all the advertisements and trailers, thereafter it drops to around 20 minutes. It's usually about 20 minutes for other films too. So, unless you really love trailers, don't be worried that you won't have time to finish your coffee. Unlimited card holders get 10% off in the cafe as well as on concessions. This goes to 25% after a year which makes the cafe one of the cheapest places to get a coffee, or even a glass of wine, in the city centre. However, even without the card they run a pretty fair deal on a coffee and a cake, which I definitely recommend. My only gripe is the recent(ish) introduction of seating allocations. In theory this could be a good idea, especially if you're worried about running late and getting a bad seat. In practise it fails often. Firstly, I don't know where I want to sit when I'm buying my ticket. Front, middle or back? I don't know! I want to sit somewhere fairly central but not behind that super tall guy or right next to some strangers. Once your place is chosen you'll arrive to find someone else has taken it and, not wanting to bother them, you'll pick somewhere else, only to have another person come and tell you that you've stolen their seat. It quickly decends into chaos. If they were to scrap the seating allocations I'd be very happy. Apart from that, it's hard to beat for mainstream movie going, and it does pretty well at showing the odd less-mainstream choice as well. read more

Well this review is about the Cineworld VIP Experience Let's start with waiting outside the screen they have a member of staff who sits there and waits till it's time to let you in, the staff member keeps changing over, you have comfy seats to wait in but maybe a drinks machine operated by staff while you wait and a few newspapers is a nice add on. Once you get in your greeted by a polite staff member telling you every thing you need to know. But the word gourmet is not really being honest gourmet means n. 1. a connoisseur of fine food and drink; epicure. adj. 2. of, characteristic of, or designed for gourmets. 3. of or involving fancy or exotic foods. So what I seen was pizza, pastas, soup, salads, desserts, soft drinks and hot drinks I'll start by saying it was nice food defo but just not gourmet. They put a lot off effort in with the staff. They have little screens that don't do much. What about some movie trailers. Sadly staff confirm carers pay £29.70 to support a client how wrong is that. But that keep taking away empty plates no worries. They let you know when it's time to go in they offer popcorn, hot dogs, matches, water, hot drinks and soft drinks. The hot dogs are smaller than normal but you can get a free replacement so why not. When you get in you need to sit on the seats to activate them and wow super comfy and it's never busy so wow again. It's a amazing experience but here is opinions 1. First of all the price £29, if you was planning to go for a meal before it and taking in cinema snacks then it's a good idea. But if your a ticket and bring stuff in person it will double the price. 2. Unlimited card holders I think the same as above. Because some movies can be £14 but we only save £10. 3. Why don't give access without food or just cinema snacks but not a meal like without the main food £20 and £8 But please think about it to work out if its value for you read more

I have been here so many times and always find a new way to be disappointed. The latest was the failure of cineworld to properly maintain their pay by card/collect tickets now booths. When we went 8 out of the 9 booths were broken - and a large, very annoying queue was forming. I wouldn't mind but this was Saturday night! The clientele tends to be even worse. I'm not really a fan of this cinema for a couple of reasons mainly the sound bleeding from other screens (if I'm watching a quiet film) and their policy of making you walk down a fire escape if you're in one of the larger screens. I've been in a near empty screening where this happened & found walking down it unnerving as it was so empty. goodness knows what anyone who has impaired mobility would do as they also rope off the lift. that said if you go on a Tuesday all films are just over £6 & their coverage of National Theatre plays are good. 28/04 - a wee update. Gutted to find out they've finished with their cheap Tuesdays. Instead it's 2-4-1 with Meerkat Movies. What about those of us who go to the cinema alone? Complete with the most comprehensive list of films you could possibly expect to find in a mainstream cinema, the Renfield Street Cineworld is apparently the tallest cinema in either Europe or the world, I can't remember. It's size means it acts as a sort of flagship for the company, and the main theatres on the third floor are absolutely huge. If you're going to see a big release on opening night the scale of the theatres and number of people in them does bring a sense of occasion to proceedings, which can backfire if the film is as bad as 2012 and people are continually walking out / falling asleep. Whilst I'd recommend the GFT instead for more leftfield releases, for an old-fashioned blockbuster Cineworld can't be beat. Don't forget to order some nachos with extra jalapenos and rubbery cheese sauce. Exceptionally processed, but exceptionally delicious. read more

Cineworld is a really good cinema, and the only one I would really consider going to in Glasgow. The Odeon is gone now, and the cinema over on Springfield Quay is hefty expensive. There's always something on, and with regular showings over around 20 screens on several floors. It boasts it is in fact the tallest cinema in Europe. Being used to a tiny, tiny cinema with sticky floors in my home town, Cineworld is actually a gem for me. It still amazes me that most films that are out are shown here (rather than having to pick from three films you don't really want to see) and at pretty much every time you can think of. If I fancy seeing a film then this is definitely where I'd head first as there is always bound to be something on that suits. It is expensive but that seems to be the same with cinemas in general and I don't grudge it quite so much here. The queues move fast, the staff are efficient and all the (many, many) screens are comfy and tidy. For regular cinema-goers you can pay £12 a month for a cineworld card allowing you unlimited visits. Everyone knows the negative points of a multi-story, chain cinema sitting bang in a city centre, so let's not dwell on them. Instead, let's focus on the fact that Cineworld offers you the opportunity to watch a wide variety of films on screens the size of 5-a-side pitches with perfect sound. While all of Glasgow's cinemas serve a purpose (e.g. Grosvenor; comfort, GFT; alternative cinema), Cineworld may well be big, brash and daft but for me it's been one of the best additions to the city in the past decade. It's particularly good for tall folk like myself who are no longer a figure of hate on account of dunting the seat in front with stretched legs or providing an irritating silhouette for the person behind. Instead, Cineworld is designed to a tee and, as the tallest cinema in Europe, actually offers pleasant views of Glasgow from its upper floors, a surprising bonus. With 18 screens and a spacious second floor bar, the cinema, of course, attracts all sorts and is a tad over-priced. However instead of moaning about that, just go and lose yourself by watching goodies fighting baddies in vast screens with crystal clear definition. I guess we have to be grateful to Cineworld for basically saving the cinema-going experience by their investment in new multiplexes and so forth, but like any other national chain store it's become a bit of a soulless experience as every cinema looks like any other cinema (apart from the IMAX, which they also schedule). This review could pretty much apply to any one of their venues. Don't get me wrong - there's no denying that the technical standard of movies has increased dramatically in recent years, and Cineworld have been at the forefront of that with massive investment in digital technology and improved booking functionality with the electronic ticket arrangements and suchlike; but I can't help feeling sorry for the loss of character in individual cinemas along the way as the whole experience is basically the same wherever you go, with the same décor, the same junk food on sale, the same style of seating (although it is very comfy, it must be said). On this visit, (The Martian), we decided to try out the D-box motion seats to see what they were like. Decided that they weren't worth the additional expense. If you took your feet off the floor when they were moving in slow sweeping motions to correspond with some tracking camera shots, it was quite cool, a little bit like a flight sim ride; but I found the heavy-duty vibration in the action bits more irritating than anything else, and didn't feel that it added that much to the experience (even with the 3D). Prices are high enough without forking out for the added minor thrill of having your wobbly bits shoogled at every opportunity - tickets cost £15 each for this movie. Digital projection has many advantages over traditional film in terms of distribution and a more seamless screening experience with no scratchy bits, dodgy edits or cue marks to spoil the image. Yet it doesn't have the same colour range as film and this is particularly noticeable in the blacks, which are never true black. You'll notice this especially during the adverts and trailers where the image is smaller, when you can see the surrounding border of the screen showing as the same dirty grey colour as the supposed 'black' parts of the image. In the old days, black screen masking would be adjusted to suit the image size, which would help make this less obvious; but Cineworld seem to have abandoned the whole screen masking thing, and to me that just seems sloppy and unprofessional (but then I do work in showbiz). Surely it's not beyond the technology to encode automatic screen masking adjustments into the digital system? OK, rant over - this place is now the only game in the city centre when it comes to mainline cinema, and I will perforce continue to patronise it when they have something I want to see, but given the option I'd rather go to somewhere with more character like the GFT. read more

If I'm going to see a movie, this is usually the theatre I will go to. It has a very ideal location in the centre of town and is very easily accessible. Giant car park in Buchanan Galleries for those travelling by car, less than a 5 minute walk if you get the train to Queen Street, and less than a minutes walk if you get the bus to Buchanan Bus Station. So that's always a bonus! The theatre itself is really modern. I think the building looks really cool, the interior is really up to date and the place runs really smoothly. I'll usually book in advance if I'm coming here as the place can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends. So the new ticket collection points are really handy to avoid waiting queues! The theatre itself has 18 screens and I think they're split over 9 floors (first high rise movie theater I've seen!) I usually like getting one of the higher floor screens as when you get to the top of the escalators there are some really excellent views of Glasgow, these become more enjoyable thanks to the comfortable chairs they put in front of the windows to improve the view! There is a large confectionary area on each level of the cinema that offer a wide range of drinks and snacks...mmm movie nacho sauce.. Drool! Another thing I like about this place is that the seats are pretty comfortable, even during longer movies, which really helps enjoy the film....compare these to the seats in the Forge cinema and it's like sitting on a cloud! There's really nothing bad I could say about this cinema, it does and offers exactly what a modern cinema should. My complaint is actually towards all cinemas! To charge people over £12 per movie these days is disgraceful, and it's no wonder less and less people go to the cinema now. It's really starting to make sense why so many people download them! I've looked into the movie passes as I was told they save you pretty well in the long run, but honestly, it would be a waste for me to get that as there are not enough movies that I would go to see to justify having it. So I'll stick to my occasional visit to places like this only for movies I really can't wait to see. If you're looking for one of the better theatres in Glasgow to go and see a movie, I would definitely say you can't go wrong with this one! read more

I've always been a huge cinema fan, I love going to see new films and always think it's much better than downloading. A few years ago my partner bought me an unlimited card, and then I got a job at Cineworld and worked there for 2 years, so I can see the positives and negatives from both sides. As a customer, who has just recently bought herself a new Unlimited card, I love this cinema. They show not only the popular films, but occasionally indie films as well as live theatre broadcasts and more. As an ex-staff member, I find the customer service pretty good, the staff are friendly and generally pretty helpful. I also know how hard it can be as a staff member to have an unlimited customer shouting at you at box office, or someone telling you personally that the prices are ridiculous and it's somehow your fault. Thie prices are high, but it's not the end of the world, I just tend not to buy anything, maybe bring along a wee snack to keep me going if I think I'll need it. Personally, I think the unlimited card is the best choice - each month it costs less than the price of two adult cinema tickets and you get a 10% discount on food and drink - who wouldn't want that? I bought my card last week and I've already got my moneys worth out of it by watching 2 films on Sunday. This cinema feels a little bit like home to me because I worked there for so long, and I love taking an afternoon to myself to go see a film. It doesn't have to be expensive as the unlimited card has lots of benefits, and they have also got bargain Wednesdays, where all tickets are only £5.90 or something. Apparently this is the tallest cinema on the planet, yet to actually look this up to find out the legitimacy of this claim, but ill believe most things told to me! This cinema, whether it be the tallest or just tall, is a landmark in the city centre and one I frequent quite often. I love love love films, and going to the cinema to see and hear them in all their glorious splendour is a favourite hobby of mine. As with most chain cinemas, it is extortionate to attend frequently, especially if like me you love a good pick n mix, but the good thing about cineworld cinemas is the cineworld card, which, if I didn't have a closer cinema, I would definitely possess. So much money saving! I would advise booking tickets in advance if you're going to this cinema, as queues can sometimes be absolutely ridiculous, especially if a film is not long out. read more

I'm not a big cinema goer - I put it down to a combination of a short attention spam as well the horror of how expensive it can be! At nearly £20 for two adults to go to see a movie, it has to be something I seriously want to see. We recently nabbed a deal which was two tickets for £12 - that's more like it! We used this when going to see Iron Man 3 with fellow Yelpers last week. Easy to book online, and just as easy to collect the tickets at the machine made the booking experience smooth and stress-free. I quite like these cinemas as I've always found them to be clean and comfortable. I tend to avoid buying any food/drink as it is always exceptionally overpriced (there's a theme emerging here). We found seats easily enough but had the annoying murmur of the couple behind us who talked for the ENTIRE MOVIE. Non stop! Even with some dark looks, they continued on. I appreciate they might have really liked each others company, but surely a pub would have been more appropriate for such intense conversation. This, added to my two general cinema complaints above, really didn't endear me to going to the cinema, but I can appreciate only one of these things is actually Cineworld's fault. Before I continue with my review, I must make one thing perfectly clear... I live here. No, really. I watch so many films that I practically never leave. Needless to say, I have the shiny Cineworld Unlimited card or I'd be poorer than a church mouse. Do I love films? Yes! Do I like viewing them on big shiny screens? Yes! Do I looooove loud booming surround sound? Hell yes! Do I like leg room so don't get kicked and trampled? Si, señor! Do I like air conditioning and heating running at appropriate times? Abso-fracking-lutely! If you too like all of these boxes checked, then Cineworld is for you. Now, as with any big name cinema, your snacks from the concession area will be a bit on the overpriced side. Never been much of a cinema grazer as it distracts me from cinematic wonder, but on occasion I'll grab a hot dog (mystery meat wonder of the world). It's not the most expensive place, believe me... I've seen worse. Besides, if you do have an Unlimited then you get a 10% discount on concessions and at the bar! What I love about this place is that, in spite of being a monstrous commercialised cinema, they put on indie films as well. I've seen various foreign and minor release films at this cinema, especially during the Glasgow Film Festival. There are sometimes extra features tacked on to the end or the beginning of the films. For instance, when I went to see the opening of Impostor last week, there was a satellite feed to the Q&A the director was having in London. It was even interactive, as you could tweet questions. I was most impressed. The only thing I hate is that I must queue up on snake way to get tickets (or duck under the tape), as Unlimited customers can't use the self service machines. I do believe the company is running a trial in Leicester to allow people to do this, but it's not available nationwide just yet. But then again, I like being able to order loads of films at once which probably wouldn't be allowed on the self service machine. My record is seven films in one day... ^^; Cineworld is probably the best big name cinema in Glasgow. I love my wee indie cinemas too, but for the big cinema experience this is as good as it gets. read more

Cineworld has been around for quite a few years now, has had a lot of good movies in it & very comfertable seating. Although already mentioned is still the same, Cineworlds pricing has gone up conciderably over the years & a basic ticket can cost more than £11 - £30 depending on the type of screening. Good choice of films, vip available (limited film choice & sittingss) however fantastic memu. 4DX again brilliant but pricy. Unlimited cards are a must if your going to visit here often however overall I rate cineworld fair/good, just the prices need to be watched. read more

I do like that there is a huge cinema in the city centre so you dont have to make the pilgrimage to the out of town retail park to view your film. And yes the tickets do cost a fair chunk of change, and if I've enjoyed the film I wont begrudge the price tag - much. The problems with this world of cine are thus: Not enough lifts, and going up and down those escalators to the heavens with the massive glass wall makes me pretty scared. When you get up to the top floor there are only vending machines which is a pain. The queues, oh my days the queues! Ive never seen anything like it! I have glasses, I dont want to watch things in 3-D. To watch things in 3-D I have to take off my glasses, therefore negating any immersive experience - or wear two pairs of glasses making me look like a freak and giving me a headache. Stop thrusting 3-D at me! The punters are the worst behaved ones I have experienced in any cinema, cineworld, odeon or otherwise - they ruin perfect plot twists by shouting screaming and talking, they have the smallest bladders in the world and will take off their shoes and put their smelly feet on the back of your chair. Cineworld is as cineworld does and you expect the £3 small coke, the £8 ticket and the uncomfortable chairs - the only thing that surprised me was the disrespectful patrons and extreme vertigo. read more

I really love this cinema. I remember when it opened as a UGC and going to see a film (Treasure Planet if I remember correctly) for the first time in the absolutely giant screen - it was like nothing I'd ever experienced before, I was so overwhelmed by how massive it all was! I also managed to splat Ben and Jerry's ice cream all down myself, but this is something I could quite easily do nowadays, not just cause I was about 12 at the time! I especially like the way the seats are laid out - since they're a bit higher up than the screen, it means you don't have to crane your neck to look at it as you do in other cinemas like the other Cineworld at the Forge and the Showcase at Coatbridge. You can also pretty much get a decent view no matter where you sit, and the seats themselves are really comfy as well! It's a cinema which in my opinion seems pretty new despite having been there for almost 13 years now (wow!) I've always found the staff to be very pleasant, and at times really friendly and chatty! It's always clean, even the toilets (apart from the ones beside the bar, goes without saying really) which is a definite plus. The bar is a really nice wee place to chill out if you've got time to kill before your film starts, they have a good selection of beer and it's fun sitting in the seats beside the window, people-watching. The view of Glasgow you get from the higher floors is absolutely amazing as well, I could happily sit and look out for ages! I enjoy going here even more since I got an Unlimited card. Without making it sound like I work for Cineworld, it really is such a good deal. £16.40 (used to be £15.90 but they've just bumped the price up, boo!) for as many films as you can manage a month is brilliant when you consider one adult ticket costs about £9! You do have to pay extra for 3D films, but I don't usually bother with them anyway - apart from for kids' films because the 3D's normally a bit more in-your-face! With a normal Unlimited card you also get 10% off food and drink - I almost never buy food in the cinema, the newsagents across the road from it have a great selection of sweets, drinks and popcorn so I usually get my snacks there, but my bf loves actual cinema popcorn so he gets to take advantage of my discount. It does count in the bar as well though, which is great! Once you've been a cardholder for a year which I soon will be, you get upgraded to Premium which means you get 25% off the food and drink, plus you don't need to pay extra for 3D films. On top of all that, with an Orange/EE Wednesday code and an Unlimited card you can get a pal in for freebies (paying the extra if you see a 3D film) which is brill! I usually try and squeeze in at least 3 films a month, it also helps that if you go and see something which turns out to be rubbish, you can just go and see something else that's good to make up for it, without feeling like you've lost anything! Well, except your time obviously. I was initially annoyed that they introduced allocated seating, as the lack of it was one of the reasons I preferred Cineworld over other cinemas, but I'm managing to get over it now. I'm really looking forward to the one at Silverburn opening in "Spring" next year - I doubt it'll be anything like Renfrew St, but it should give me even more screening options! read more

It's a cinema. It sells popcorn (bleuch), Tango Ice Blasts (sometimes), and the usual hotdogs, nachos, ice cream and pick-n-mix options. It also has a very reasonably priced bar (with a discount if you have an Unlimited card!) so that makes it a bit better. But it's still a cinema, even if it's well appointed, with (mostly) friendly staff and is (mostly) pretty clean and well appointed. It has many screens, many floors and shows movies. Thankfully because it has so many screens it does seem to show a few more 'special viewings' than other multiplexes so it's worth keeping an eye out for those. I'll be here a lot more in the coming months as I invested in an Unlimited card which, if you like movies and are in the city centre area often I'd recommended, basically you cover your costs after watching 2 movies a month, watch more than that and you are, essentially, watching free movies!! They've also now got the latest cool thing (was 3D cool?) which is moving seats, you can try them out in the lobby at the moment, it's a bit of fun but for me I think it'd become more of a distraction than an enhancement - if you've ever been to a theme park and tried a 3D 'ride' there you'll know what it feels like already. So, it's a cinema. It shows movies. Well done Cineworld, job done! read more

This is pretty much our second home, so think it's only fair that I pop up a wee review. Don't have many complaints about this place. We have premium Cineworld Unlimited cards and pretty much never have to wait in queues due to the fantastic online booking and ticket machine system that was introduced last year (finally) for card holders. In terms of value for money, the Unlimited card is excellent... Providing you use it often. You only actually have to go twice a month to get your money's worth. We received a letter last year from Cineworld telling us we had actually saved nearly £200 each but having our cards, which is pretty sweet. You also get the chance to attend pre-screenings of films, which we often do. Once you've had the card for a year, you receive a upgrade to premium which gives you a few more benefits and privileges. We get money off food and drink inside, but tend not to buy anything. We often pop across the road to the Flying Duck before or between films. The Cineworld bar isn't anything special, but handy if you want to kill time without leaving the building. Money off for Cineworld Unlimited card holders too. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, never had any issues with them. The toilets are pretty grim, not pleasant at all most of the time. Think this is something they definitely need to sort out. The only other grumble I have, which isn't really a complaint relating to the cinema itself, is people talking through films and playing with their phones. Baffles me. If you want to gab, go to the pub or to each others houses. If you want to play with your phone, do it before the film... Muppets! read more

Apparently this is the tallest cinema in europe, and I don't doubt that. It's the only cinema in the city centre so it's busy. If you want to see the new big release I'd advise booking a ticket in advance on the Cineworld app. Every time I come here it seems to have gone up in price. An adult ticket is now over a tenner, and you'll need to remortgage your house if you want to buy popcorn and a drink. Although it's expensive, I understand the cost of everything is going up nowadays. Buying your snacks in the shops across the road and smuggling them in is always an option. Apart from that, this is just your typical cinema, only bigger! read more

I don't often go to the cinema as my funds don't allow it and when something I really want to see comes out (Which isn't very often) I try to make the effort to go along. The Cineworld building is distinguishable by it's Gihugic size. It towers above even some of the highest buildings in Glasgow. The view from the higher levels is awesome. My fiance and I came here on Friday to see Man Of Steel. We didn't book out tickets in advance as it was a spur of the moment decision so when we arrived at 7pm ALL the 2D showings until 11pm so 3D it had to be which was an extra cost because I didn't have my 3D Glasses so we had to buy more which brought our ticket price to around £20 for both of us. We had a while to wait for our showing so we went for something to eat *See my review on Dino's* As the time drew near for our showing to start we bought a large juice and popcorn for £6.50 which is kind of reasonable as the popcorn was huge and we took our time with the juice. We took our seats and waited for the adverts to begin, we waited....and waited...and waited.. 20 minutes after the start time of the showing it was still a bank screen which we were told after a few more minutes by a member of staff that there was a problem with the projector and it that the staff were doing all the could to fix it. Another 20 minute wait and we were apologized to again and to be patient for a little bit longer as the problem was almost fixed. A further 5 minutes and then it was movie time! I must admit I do usually go to the Odeon as I have an insider card which gives me money off every now and again, it would be good if Cineworld had a similar idea. I know they have the unlimited card where you pay so much a month and you can see as many movies as you want that month for a set price...but I just don't have the desire to the cinema that much. Overall I like Cineworld, I just find it a tad expensive but the novelty of being is a super high building is pretty cool I guess. read more

This building sits like a cathedral of film on the corner of Renfrew and West Nile Street. It resembles a modern interpretation of the classic monuments to Movies. Those huge theatres that dominated the surrounding landscape and crowds would flock to it on a regular basis. It was pleasant to think that this tradition continued and the result was positioned here in the middle of Glasgow. Entering and the underwhelming truth comes crashing down. This is not a Cathedral of film but a cattle yard of consumerism. The low ceilings in the entryway make it plain that they have attempted to squeeze as much out of this space as possible. Confusing barrier systems thread you around in the front of the cashiers, who all seem happy to help but embarrassed by the latest corporate dress foisted upon them. Ticket in hand, you ascend - Ascension is the word to describe this place. Lots of escalators and signage to tell you that you have not arrived on the floor that your movie is showing. Heading up the escalators could remind you of a massive old department store if there was anything interesting to look at as you travelled upwards. But just some neon and endless mechanical steps await. When you get to the assigned floor, the concessions await. I picked up the large bundle also known as the Insanity Pack. I have large hands - but this had entered the area of the ridiculous. If I could petition British theatre owners about one thing - could you please pop popcorn in the bloody theatres? Fresh Popcorn is easy. Stupidly Easy. Entering the theatre - to our dismay the lights were still on. That meant ads. A lot of ads. How come there are so many ads? The ads were so numerous that they started to poke fun at themselves at how many there were. Way to recursive. Can I complain about the seats? Yeah, I can. The lack of attendees made the cramped space in front bearable, in that I could stretch out my legs. I thought these things reclined these days. Nope. I knew friends who would buy student passes for this theatre. Cheaper than a television and no need to move it at the end of the semester. I could not put up with the painful seating. My knees started to scream like I was crammed in the back seat of a two door car on the way from Glasgow to Bristol. The movie was great but I doubt I will be back. I really wanted the grandeur of the outside to match the interior. Unfortunately, it just does not. read more

Yes, it's a massive, faceless multiplex. Yes, ticket prices are getting more expensive by the day. Yes, it smothered the competition when it arrived in the middle of our city. But, really? This is a great cinema. While I liked it a lot more as UGC, when they changed hands not much actually changed very much. The colour scheme is a bit less desirable and they push the food more, but that's just the business of cinema. It's something you have to accept. Now, there are many reasons that this is a great place to see a film. The seats are comfortable; you get plenty of legroom, and they're all stadium-seated so you never have someone else's annoying head bobbing around on the screen in-front of you. They're never too widely arranged, so you never feel like you're peering for miles to see the opposite corner of the screen. It's arranged over 6 floors so that you're not congregating in a lobby full of stale popcorn. There are 18 screens! The bonus of having an 18-screen Cineworld at your disposal is that they don't just stick to the mainstream blockbusters. While independent films and small releases don't tend to stick around for long, they ARE available, and often the Cineworld screens more of these types of films than the GFT does, or long before the GFT gets its paws on it. So while you're busy whinging about the ridiculous price of popcorn (nobody is denying that, just bring your bliddy own and wheesht it), take a proper look at what's screening and pick something new, for a change. Might I add - you're far more likely to enjoy a quiet film on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. Don't be foolish like me and forget the existence of Orange Wednesdays on a cold night! read more

First time being at Cineworld again today after probably about a year of not going (watched maleficent and it was so so good, Angelina Jolie is just perfect!). It appears to be cheaper than I remembered..but then I really don't go to this cinema that often so I could be wrong. It was orange wednesday so it was 2 for 1 ticket and we used our student card as well, so it was about £6.70 i think between us which was really cheap! I mainly like going here because it is such a tall building and the views you get from the top floor is pretty amazing, especially at night time! If you look carefully in the direction opposite the bus station at night time, you can almost see a road of some sort that seems to just go off in the distance - I call it the road to nowhere! Also because it is in town, so if I get bored it is convenient just for something to do. It does get quite busy, especially on orange wednesdays so I do recommend that you purchase your tickets maybe the day before or early in the day if you plan to watch an evening film to avoid the queues. The food etc is quite pricey so I never buy them, maybe the occasional sweets but not very often. There is a pound shop on Sauchiehall St where there are plenty of sweets, drinks etc so its definitely worth doing that instead of paying like 3x the price in the cinema! Being a Yank, I'm used to things being big and excessive. 30-screen theatre? Yup, got it... but never have I seen a sky scraping cinema like Cineworld. With the multiple levels and endless sets of escalators (there are lifts, but those normally take ages at times), you might want to add buffer time before the start of your selected film. If you want to view any of the latest releases, you're almost guaranteed it'll be showing at Cineworld if it's not on at the Grosvenor (for West Enders like me). Various times throughout the week it will fluctuate from being insanely busy or really slow. Skip the queue for the ticket counter, and go straight to the self-serving kiosks. I'm not really sure why more people don't use those because they're a whole lot faster than waiting in the snake-like queue. You can purchase student tickets from these kiosks (so happy students discounts still apply to me, especially at my ripe old age). In addition to student tickets, you can take advantage of Orange Wednesdays and get 2-4-1. A few classmates have also gone for the unlimited pass of £13.50 a month, which would only make sense if you watch 3+ movies every month. Overall, it's a pretty standard cinema experience. It also helps that they utilize their surround sound (unlike another venue *cough*), so that the sound engineer boyfriend won't whine and moan. Stadium seating is great and helpful, especially for vertically-challenged folk like me :-) Last, but not least, no trip to Cineworld is complete without a bag chalk-full of fizzy strawberries. I don't go to the cinema a lot, but I really enjoy it when I do. Growing up in a small town with a teeny tiny rubbish cinema means I'm easily impressed. The first time I went to Cineworld I was really impressed and excited by it's size. I've got used to it now, but I'm still happy to have access to a large cinema, on the rare occasion that I go see a movie. The screens are big, the seats are comfy, and placed so that you never get someone's head in your way (which happened a lot at aforementioned tiny small town-cinema). The ticket prices are reasonable, but the snack prices are outrageous, although I suppose that's to be expected at any cinema. The fact that it's the tallest cinema in the world is quite impressive! Yes it's a big chain Cinema, yes its bloody expensive and yes its positively swarming with folks at the busy times.....but god is it the way to watch any of the latest releases. Now i know these places get alot of stick for there money grabbing and for only showing the biggest blockbuster type filmage, however there is no better way f watching a film than this. The screens in the place are stupidly big at times, making you feel like your at a tennis match as you follow the witty dialogue between the old American cop who's just been released from prison after being framed for murder and his new female partner who does things by the book and likes wearing tight sweaters. Blah, blah, tallest cinema in Europe, blah, blah, about 18 screens, blah, blah, early bird special before 12ish, blah, blah, bar/coffee shop. A great cinema and was my local for several months when I lived in Glasgow. In Scotland, only two Cineworlds show pretty much every film that comes out - not just blockbusters. This is one, Edinburgh the other. As such, it is far better value than most other branches if you have the Unlimited card. Another thing is that the staff will let you "forward load" with tickets if you have the card. That is, you can arrive at 10am and use it to get tickets for films starting at, say, 10:30, 12:45, 14:50, 18:30 and 21:00 as long as they don't clash with one another. This is actually against the card rules, but makes organising your day so much easier! read more
