I love this theater. Especially after they got their reno's done a while ago. It's super clean, and isn't overly crowded.

We love this theatre, it's our go to theatre if we want to see a good movie in cushy seats. Lots of snack options too!

With the demise of The Uptown, this is the last bastion for art house film lovers in the downtown…read morecore. Sure, the Cineplex in Eau Claire sometimes shows art house or indie flicks, but The Globe fills a niche in Calgary that I wish more theatres would cater to. The theatre is owned by Landmark, and they've outsourced some of their advertising to Cineplex, so you can actually check out a good chunk of the Cineplex Pre-Show here, which is ironic because the Cineplex location in Eau Claire doesn't even show that at their theatres. If you're on a budget, the best times to visit are during the weekends and catching a matinee (you save about $2.50 or so on admission that way), or visiting on a Tuesday as for $0.99 more than general admission ($10), you can get a popcorn/drink/candy combo. The Globe is on my list of theatres to check out every week whenever I'm in the mood for a film, because usually they've got quality stuff playing here. If you like films with a little bit more depth, give The Globe a try.

So, I went by myself to the first show and I thought it might be empty or few people may attend, but I chocked because it was crowded and I barely found a chair, also the director was there. It was a great experience that I had and sure it'll not be the last one. Pros: Independent theater Cheap tickets Great movies No ads Cons: Online booking is not available Seats are without number

This is my local movie theatre and I like it. Why?…read more As a movie theatre in a small town (pop. ~21000) they feature all the perks you would get in Calgary for a better price and without lineups. From time to time they do movie specials called "Red Carpet Premier" where they feature a film and add some perks like special guests, door prizes, movie related decoration, some food and drinks etc. We did three of them already. My last 'Red Capet Premiere' was for the latest Hobbit movie. They had the stunt coordinator from the movie as a special guest. He setup a small fight scene with volunteers from the audience within 15 minutes and had some original movie props to show around. However there is some room for improvement: First of all their website is unacceptable. They have a fancy "Adobe Flash-only" website and on some devices they just don't work. There is no way around as they don't offer any alternative. Ergo we have never done any spontaneous visits while on the way back home because we just could't see what's up (yes, I am aware there are external sites providing movie listings but come on, they want MY money so they should offer this information to me). Second: please let the people wait inside for a 'Red Carpet Premier' as you did the years before. Doors to the movie and the cinema itself opened at the same time so people had to wait outside on the parking lot. Come on, it's winter... Finally: if there is a raffle for door prizes please make sure it is fair. I wouldn't have expected people cheating by entering multiple times to begin with. But I would have at least taken away the prize from whom I catch ;)

THIS PLACE SAVED MY LIFE!!!…read more For a young movie buff raised on a tight family budget in a town too small to have a movie thater, life was hard. I know, it's a silly complaint to make, but the 2 or 3 times my parents would take us into the city to go to movies it was like getting an extra Christmas that year for me.... so I remember VERY fondly the day I first started seeing metal fences going up and a hole being dug in the big empty gravel lot by Extra Foods, and there started being rumblings that a movie theater was going in. Granted, at the time it was just a little two-screener with grossly western-themed lobby decor, an arcade that would have been considered out of date a decade and a half before it opened, a frustrating bias toward family friendly movies and a concession rivaled by some vending machines, but when you live in a town where kids buy their music from a drug store and Smitty's is considered fine dining, who's going to argue? Things have changed a lot since then - more screens have been added (you no longer have to worry that if two animated kids movies come out within the same month that the more mature stuff will never reach town), the lobby looks a lot less likely to be visited by a tumbleweed, and you can now get just about anything in the way of movie-going snackage (in fact, for a while they even had cotton candy, though I'm not sure if this is still the case). By no means is this theater ever likely to rival the big chains or even the more independent stuff in the bigger cities, but there's also something to be said for the quaint, little town charm of a theater where you can sometimes buy your ticket, walk to the concession stand, and have to wait 30 seconds or so while the same guy leaves the ticket booth and runs around being the counter to sell you your popcorn. It's a bit comical, but gives this place it's own charm... and if the staff of years ago and the owner (who's a really cool dude despite his never calling me all the many, many times I applied for a job there as a teenager) are any indication of the current batch, I'm sure the service is awesome and comes with a big smile. I never seem to find myself in Cochrane any more, but if I did I would have no hesitance what-so-ever to swing by this little spot and see what one of my olds haunts is up to... and neither should you. 8/30

Set…read morein the heart of downtown, this 100 year old historic building still conveys its original pride in its golden leaf mouldings, the original theatre ceiling and original walls. Most of the architecture has been updated and the lobby area houses the sexy and sultry Velvet Restaurant. The main theatre is a jaw dropping thing to experience, from the catwalk you see an expansive area with rolling seats that can be set up as a classic theatre formation or can be set up against all four walls with the stage in the center. The hardwood floor is rich and dark and the brick wall is an interesting urban feel which could house really unique staging. The theatre was renovated by theatre diehard loyalists and you can tell the dedication that has been put into this venue as everything is so well taken care of. There is a killer mezzanine area, with a bar that presently has been popular for wine and scotch tasting events. The only criticism I would have is because of all the historic restoration they are not so open to hosting youth events there but it is understandable considering the fine details of the architecture. All in all the place is a superb location and akin to theatre spaces I have seen in New York City and Toronto, but it's not its grandness is all right here in Calgary.

The hot food stand apparently couldn't take the poutine order and I had to order it at the concession. I got all my stuff and walked over to the hot food stand. I always order half the fries and double the gravy so I told him that. I watched him spend thirty mins getting a woman salsa for her nachos. He looked all around the kitchen and then stood and talked to her. I asked if he could get my poutine if he was going to chat. He told me he had to finish her order and went through a door into the back and didn't come out for ten mins. He came out with nothing and starting talking to her again. I asked him to please make my poutine since he had been gone ten mins. He looked at me and then called over a person and asked them where the side salsa was. The guy told him where to look and saw me put my hands up and looking pissed. He asked if he could help by making something. Of course the guy said nope and he went away. I was reaching irate as it was fifteen mins till my movie. He went over to concession and chatted then bent down and opened a tiny fridge and took out salsa. He came back over and gave it to her and she says " what about the sour cream". I sighed looked at both of them and said " seriously.....seriously.. I've been extremely patient and polite about this whole thing but I ordered my poutine over 30 mins ago and I want to get a seat and I like to sit somewhere specific but more importantly you don't make someone wait this long. please make my poutine and then you two and talk about whatever you want......please!" They both snickered at me and he went over and got her sour cream. Now this whole time a basket of cooked fries had been sitting above the frier. He came back and put that basket down. I waiting thinking those can't be for me that's fireable and dangerous. He pours out the basket fills the poutine container FULL of fries and then puts gravy in it. This is not what I wanted but my movie has started. I picked up the overflowing and piggy mess poutine. The gravy poured onto my fingers as I walked away. I've had this happen many times no its hot but bearable. This gravy was too hot. I couldn't see that when he set it down because I'm five feet tall and the counter is almost higher than me. I had to wait to set it down so I didn't freak and spill it all over myself. I set it on the condiment counter and wiped off my finger. The pain was bad. I added ketchup to my fries and went for the movie that had already started. Luckily the ten mins of stupid commercials were playing so I was ok. My seat was taken but they were assigned seats and I was in a mood so I was fine telling them. My finger was not getting better and I couldn't watch the movie. I had to leave all my food and ask the couple I made move watch it which I've never done. I ran out and told them I needed an ice pack or burn gel. Of course they called a manager and he made me explain it. I told him I could tell him all about it later but I was there for a movie not to explain shitty service. I missed all the previews and the beginning of the movie while they got me ice and some burn gel. I had a hard time enjoying the movie because I had to keep icing my hand. It didn't calm down till almost the end of the movie. When I came out I had to go find a manager and tell them about it. The previous manager hadn't written down the incident which they are required and if it weren't for the burn gel and cinema bag full of melting ice I had she said she wouldn't have believed me. They took my name and all my info and said they'd look into it. I was very concerned that a child might get burned. The manager said gravy is supposed to be hot and I got annoyed again. It's not supposed to cause your skin to blister. I cook all the time and I've never served a person food so hot your skin blisters because it would cause your mouth to burn and blister as well. On top of this you can't taste the subtle flavours in food if it's too hot. It was a lame excuse and the manager I'm sure knew it. If I had been them I would have given me a movie pass and some free concession passes because my ordeal was horrible and I paid to be treated like that. They didn't offer it with an apology they asked me if I was looking for something free like passes then. Of course if you say it like that I'm going to say No. I wasn't looking for free stuff I was looking for them to make up for burning me and getting horrible service. I gave them my name and number and expected someone to call but I guess It was my fault it took over 45 mins to get a poutine and get attitude with that service and my fault the gravy was so hot that if I had eaten a piece instead of getting burned on my hand that my mouth would be severely burned. If I had swallowed I would have needed an ambulance. Get a grip!

Waited a bit longer, assumed they were figuring something out. No one came out from the back, tracked down manager. At this point, was late for movie and just wanted a refund. Manager was condescending and offered no solution. I realize it's just drinks, however when you're forced to purchase from the theatre, and the price is 3x what you'd pay any where else, a tiny bit of service and promptness is necessary. I'll be heading to country hills for my movie going from now on.
