Usually a pretty good experience; happy with the food, drinks, prices and service. On two occasions(the nun 2, saw X) there's been a group of disruptive adolescents. Who come in mid movie, move around the theatre, talk really loud, throw their garbage, leave through the emergency exit, on their phones with flashlight and calls. Tonight they threw lettuce on people. Not completely certain that 1 free admission per person makes up for it. read more

The concession was fine. Service was very slow and all I was getting was a drink but what was REALLY frustrating was the seats! The seats are old style but that's not the problem...they are so fricking narrow that my thighs couldn't hardly get past the drink holders that are cutting into the width of the seats! THANK GOD the movie I saw was short! That was one super uncomfortable movie! I'd rather pay full price and sit in a regular sized seat ... or even better, a recliner! read more

The only remaining so called "cheap" theatre remaining in Calgary. Was formerly a Cineplex long long time ago. Very date cinema and seats are all cloth and comfort is what you get for cheap theatre. Surround sound surprisingly good. Staff is super friendly and concession pricing is good. Selection of films usually 2-3 weeks before it digital release and sometimes already available on blu ray. Overall $5 for a movie can't beat it. read more

No longer $5 ticket. No it is $10 double !!!! Now lot of people cannot afford to go the Cinema any longer. So sad. Please lower your price

Took my grandson there and the root beer didn't really taste like root beer and the popcorn was burn movie was the redeeming part of the experience read more

$5 movie on a Friday? Hellllz yeah! I always forget there's the cheap theatre option, but when you haven't seen any of the mainstream movies in the last year or so, $5 for a night out is a great option... leaves more room to spend on dinner! I think there are about 10 theatres total they're nice and clean... AND, the theatre accepts debit (no credit though). You also get to talk to a real person to buy your ticket. :). If you're down for a matinee, those are $3. That's cheaper than a rental! Happy movie going. read more

I love this theatre! perhaps it's all the teenage memories of making out in the back row, Perhaps it's the late 90's classics and the nostalgia, I don't know what it is! I just love this place! I remember when it opened way back! Everyone in the area was buzzing with excitement. Back in those days this place was just a regular cineplex theatre. Normal prices, new releases. Now it's a second run theatre which brings me to its best feature. ITS CHEAP! I love the idea of second run theatres. Perhaps we don't wanna fork out 15 bucks to see a questionable movie, so we wait until until it hits the cheap one!! That saves me 10 bucks!! And if the movie ends up sucking well, its just an hour and half of my life I won't get back... Why five stars for a second run theatre? Because it exceeds my expectations! The theatres (though pushing like 12 years old) still feels new to me. For me the movie watching experience is equal to its more expensive counterpart and it's never crowded which just pushes the experience over the top. No crowds, no lines no stupid laser pointing jerk would dare wield his pen in an open environment like this. This place is sweet and quite frankly Calgary needs way more theatres like it!! 24/30 read more

Yes, it's cheap... but from my first experience here I can definitely say you get what you pay for. If you're the type that doesn't typically go to movies in a theater and want a budget night-out then by all means, knock yourself out... but I'm not that type of person. I'm an absolute theater JUNKIE. I love the smell of popcorn and the blinking lights of a video arcade in the background. I love the big screens and surround sound. Hell, I even love the stupid things like coordinating show times with somebody else, the panic when you know you're running late and don't want to miss anything, and even being told for the 900th time that Theater X is the third door on the left (as if I haven't been there a dozen times, or don't know how to count, but hey it's all part of the experience.) I love it, I crave it, and it's why I keep coming back (even for movies I only KINDA want to see). So that being said, I don't like theaters that half-ass it, no matter how much it saves me. I don't want half-sized screens, I can't stand hard seats or broken cup holders, and the fact that both of the times I've been here the lobby was under construction it kind of ruined it for me... and to be fair, if I wasn't meeting up with a friend who lived right near this theater to see a movie she'd been dying to see (that I'd already seen twice) the second-run nature of this place would hold absolutely no appeal for me. All in all, if you're not as obsessive about the theater experience as I am (and VERY few people are) I'm sure this place is fine, and you'd have no problem walking through a construction site into a mediocre theater to see a movie that's going to be out on video in a couple of weeks... but for me, it's hardly worth the trip. 3/30 read more

4.5 stars out of 5! (If I could only give half stars this place would get 4.5 instead of just 4) Can you say five? Can you say movie? Can you say movies for five? Canyon Meadows Cinemas is a class on its own. They have slightly older movies but who cares? For five dollars you can watch two movies for the price of the other theatres. I did two matinee shows yesterday (Creed and the Martian) and I loved being there for the afternoon. The theatres were all clean and washrooms were well kept. The employees are very friendly and seemed to enjoy working there (not like some other cinemas). A great thing is they also give movie posters away. Yes, that's right! Just ask to speak to a manager to have your name put down on the list and what poster you're interested in. If they have enough to go around they will call you. How great is that? One gripe I had was that they seats weren't all that comfortable, the cushion seemed to have lost almost all its bounce. I will be back though and if they improve it then 5-star for sure! read more

Canyon Meadows theatre is great for a night out. The theatre is very good for a "cheap" teature in Calgary. It's only $5 for a movie at any time (i.e. matinees are the same). They receive movies that are a stitch older, but they are relatively new-ish still. My only complaint is the sound. It seems that it could use some maintenance on the sound at the theatre, but otherwise, the theatre is clean, the picture is great, and the movies are new-ish. It's a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. read more

I love this locally owned theatre and have for a many years. The staff are friendly and helpful. The movies are cheap and even though the movie scene changed during COVID and more were available online, it is so nice to see movies in a theatre rather than a living room. The snacks are also cheaper and there is a good variety. The Cheezy Tails are soooo good as are the Dirty Sodas. They are a nice change from the regular Landmark or Cineplex scene. I would be devastated if this theatre closed; I hope all the loyal movie goers start to get back to the movies. read more

Nice to have its close to home. Inexpensive so I can see movies I'm unsure of, and not worry about price Concession has good variety read more

$5 evening movies can't be beat! I havent't been to Canyon Meadows for a number of years, and without question, the bargains draw a bigger crowd. When I first saw the lineup, my heart sank. However, it moved very fast. Kudos to the staff there. The reason why I gave it a 3 star, was because of the "ick" factor. The floor was extremely sticky, from what I assume is spilled soft drinks. I can understand getting a bad spot, but all four of us sounded like we had suction cups on the bottoms of our feet. Hopefully it was just a bad floor day, and not the norm. 8/30 read more

Ah, this cinema is like home to me. I have spent many an afternoon taking in a matinee with the wee ones or friends. I have been known to use it as an escape to sit somewhere air conditioned for a few hours on a hot day. Movie prices are EXCELLENT! $3 matinees. $5 evenings. They have TONS of matinee showings, so if you are cheap like I am, this is a plus. Selection is almost always fairly decent - filled with movies that have not quite yet hit the rental scene (although sometimes there is overlap.) Usually find a nice selection in terms of genres, so as long as you aren't one to run out and watch a movie as soon as it's released, odds are you will find something showing that is to your liking. Concessions, like at any theatre, are a little pricey. However they do offer free refills on pop & popcorn. If you do not mind sharing with those you are with this is a fabulous option. Booster seats are available. Everything is pretty darn clean, including the bathrooms. Having been an old Cineplex, the seats are true theatre seats complete with stadium seating. Staff are friendly! On the younger side & sometimes slow, but they make up for it with an enthusiastic attitude. I recommend you arrive a little early to avoid a long line up to get your snacks. The reel of pre-movie entertainment is dull & repetitive, so bring something to do while you wait if you do not have someone you are happy chatting with for a bit. read more

I love this place. Cheap prices, casual atmosphere, and even at its most crowded, the lines aren't ridiculous and I've rarely (if ever) had to sit elbow-to-elbow with strangers. Not to mention its got a great mom and pop feel, which is unheard of when it comes to cinemas. My only complaint isn't much of a complaint, really. It being a small, cheap theater, most movies dont show up there until shortly before they come out on DVD, if they get played there at all. So if you're the type that likes to see that big movie on opening night in super-duper hi-spec surround sound, etc. This theater probably isn't for you. Occasionally there will be those movies that I MUST see, in which case I usually shell out the cash and go to one of the big theatres. If you're like me, Canyon Meadows will suit you just fine. I like being able to casually go to a movie without having to plan my entire evening (and paycheck) around it. I like not being in cram-packed crowded spaces. Hell, sometimes I don't even care what movie I go see. Simply put: Its laid back and inexpensive. read more

Great place and the price is right. It's not as fancy as the high priced big theatres but back when I was little, this was the place to go for movies. The big theatres are so expensive to take the entire family. Canyon Meadows Theatre is a great alternative that won't break the bank. The movies aren't the latest ones but if you have some patience and want to save some money then wait for the new release to come here and go see it. I love this place. read more

If you like the nostalgia of long lines, no convenience and a dark, stank theatre-- this is the cinema for you. Calgary is really lacking those "last-chance-before-it-goes-to-blu-ray" cinemas-- so I was pretty excited to stumble across this one. The admissions are cheap. At $5 per ticket, you may think "how could you go wrong?" Oh buddddyyy, in soooo many ways. With apps like Atom and Cineplex, I think I'm just use to not having to wait in line for 20 mins for a movie ticket and then another 20+ mins for concessions. That is what you get here. Sure, there are things that make it charming, like the local gelato ($3.50 for a tiny carton) or popcorn starting at $3.75-- but the crowd (tons of tots), the lines (so longgggg) and the outdated theatre makes it a place I rather avoid. Sorry. read more

Back when I worked for the largest video distributor in Canada, I used to get so many screening copies of movies and passes to new releases that I really had no use for the cheap theatre. Those days are now nearly 5 years removed and since then I have become a staple at Canyon Meadows Cinema (as my on-going FourSquare mayor battle can attest). Although it may not be swanky or have the best sound system, for $5 it's hard to beat the value. Having 3 kids means that matinees only cost me $12 for the lot. I can't even get into the regular theatre by myself at that price. If it wasn't for this place I'd have twice as difficult a time finding ways to entertain my monkeys and stopping their endless attacks. Thanx Canyon Meadows Cinema! 12/30 read more

A wonderful theatre which I have been going to for years also, enjoying matinees with family and girlfriends. A very clean, safe place! A tip to avoid long line ups - if you know what movie you are seeing purchase your tickets beforehand and you can zip right in later on. Join their email notices and you'll know days ahead of time which movies are coming and occasionally you'll get 2 for 1 discount coupons. Very nice staff. read more

Ok, I kind of feel bad for the people who have to work here on the weekdays. Reason is that the theatre is pretty much deserted, yet the staff still have to be here from open til close because they still have to show all the movies as promised,as long as they have at least one person seeing a movie. But...good news for us movie fans. By the way if you sign up for their email newsletter you get a coupon for a free medium popcorn. The coupon will have an expiry date within a month, so use it on your next trip there. On weekdays you can buy tickets at concession, the box office is closed because there's too few people watching movies. Also, the theatre is almost empty, there were 8 people in the theatre when I went there to see Loving yesterday. I like how they are considerate of kids with autism and offer sensory friendly screenings of kids movies where there will be no pre show, you can get tickets ahead of time to avoid the wait( no you can't do that for regular movies, but even on a weekend the line to get tickets isn't long) and the kids can move around the theatre as much as they want. These run on Saturdays at 11am, which is before the theatre is normally scheduled to open. Best news is after all the years it's still $5. Enjoy your movie! read more

I just went and picked up some curb side popcorn from the cinema all the way from Chestermere!! and was greeted by who I think was the owner. He was very friendly and quick. I will definitely be back again and he even threw in some Cadbury mini eggs as "Easter cheer" thank you so much for keeping positive at this unprecedented time! read more

FROM BIG RICH Am even more interested in the comments on Canyon Meadows Cinema than most simply because I was one of the 1st hires when the previous big-chain leasee (Famous Players, perhaps) walked away in 2001. An energetic entrepreneurial young guy from Okotoks (where he developed an independent twin theatre) snapped up the lease--I mean, timing or what? For both him and--I suspect--the leasor (where ya gonna find someone to run a 10-screen theatre??) a heaven-sent opportunity. For the public, too! I was a (much older) "mature" than the teen crowd he hired to "run" the place, during the weeks when The Fast and The Furious played endlessly. So my perspective was and is different than many others. Had a blast, frankly. Got to work along side a basically untrained bunch provide service to over 2,500 people on a busy Saturday. Try that, sometime! Unbelieveable. As much as the "ick" factor is still an issue for some, gotta tell ya, the MOUND of garbage we scooped, shovelled, swept and picked up in theatres within 15 minutes before the next sell-out showings back then defied belief. And then there was the night the garbage compactor stopped operating in the back room. Ahh, memories... MUCH better conditions now. Still go, even if the owner's decided that a $3 buck matinee can't cut it anymore and so increased it to $5. Last movies seen: Battlefield Los Angeles--big-screen spectaculars are best in a theatre--Hunger Games, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Cheap, convenient entertainment. Hats off to the operator...he's got a lock on the south Calgary market for this. read more

I well remember the day in 1998 when this cinema opened almost across the field from my house: at first it was a regular theater (first movie seen here: The Mummy), but quickly turned into a second-run theater for the movies on their way to the rental circuit. It holds a dear place in my heart, being the site of our first date when we watched Shrek in September 2001. The prices have been very good ever since, staying flat at $5 for evenings. The only reason we haven't been here more often is the quality of movies on hand rather than the theaters themselves: clean and well-maintained, good concessions, and when I lived in Bonavista, a three-minute walk away. read more

Great popcorn. The topping is made from healthy and tasty coconut oil and has a subtle sweetness in addition to the normal saltiness. It is as tasty as butter but not at an extra charge. The movies are a fair price for a family or people who don't need to see the movie when it first comes out but prefer viewing in a theater over watching it at home. read more

This place is an institution. It's a fun, cheap night out and they haven't raised the prices since I can remember. I love going to both screenings of newer movies and of beloved movies (ie. The Excorcist, Beetlejuice, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally). They offer both classic and more unique concession items (cotton candy and gelato anyone?) The concession is where they make their money though, so expect it to be only slightly cheaper than going to a Landmark or a Cineplex. read more

I took my two year ol granddaughter to see a matinee and was running late. When I got to the theatre I was surprised to see no one around at one thirty. I had to find someone to purchase my tickets and then get in the theatre to find the movie not running. I then had to pack up my granddaughter and go down to the concession to tell them.that the movie wasn't running . They said they had stopped the movie because no one was in the theatre...why did they sell me a ticket then? They said they would get someone , so i get my grandaughter , popcorn , booster seat and waddle back up to the theater.but fifteen minutes later still-no movie, I went back down and had to ask again and when I asked them to hurry the huge built boss lady told the guy NOT to hurry. I was totally disgusted, there were four staff all standing around during this conversation, and i felt like i was a total imposition!!!! There prices have gone up to five dollars for a matinee and I will never go back to that theatre , they might want to cut back on their afternoon staff and go back to a lower price ticket cause the staff there are not busting their butts for a dime. read more

CMC brings movies back to an affordable outing. Very few movies deserve the big ticket price charged at the first-run theatres. See more for less and still get a "big-screen experience". They also make it easy to see the lesser-known less-promoted movies that barely get any time in the first-run theatres, for instance "All Saints" most recently. Keep it up! AND they have brought in the live opera streams on occasion (Turandot). Am hoping they do that regularly, even at the slightly-higher admission price - could build a loyal following if given the chance and a regular, published schedule. Seating is comfortable, screens and sound are fine and place is clean overall. When there have been line-ups, they seem to move quickly enough - I usually go to the late showings and it's convenient to buy your ticket at the same time as your food. Food is good - can get a hot dog if you want something more than just popcorn and chocolate, AND you can ask for lots and lots of butter on your popcorn! (Nothing I hate worse than a small squirt on the top and nothing in the rest of the bag!) ONLY downside (and unfortunately is not unique to this theatre) - once in a while, their staff will start cleaning during the end credits. Or they will come in, see us sitting there and wait but start talking amongst themselves. Yes, I'm that rare breed who watches end credits - it's respecting everyone involved in making the movie I just saw, I'm enjoying the music (if it's not just some obnoxious pop/rock/rap song slapped on for no real reason!) and it's a couple of minutes to digest and reflect on what I just saw, before heading back out to the real world again. It doesn't always happen, but it is an annoyance when it does. Is ten minutes from where I live, so great for me! But is easily-accessible from the rest of the city, being just off of Macleod Trail and with a C-Train station just across the way. There is also a variety of restaurants in the area, if you wish to do a dinner and a movie, or a drink afterwards. Long live CMC, and I hope that you will support Calgary's affordable movie theatre. read more

I'd like to add this 10 plex is one of the few places left in Calgary where you can see movies shot on film, projected the correct way from actual prints, rather than in those new substandard digital versions. That is, in 7 of the 10 houses, the other 3 have converted. Unlike the Cineplex chain which is now 100% digital. The manager, Jodi Steele. has her hands full but my experience of seeing Looper there this past week was an enjoyable one and I had no problems, as mentioned by others, with leftover concessions or unclean facilities. I look forward to returning there soon. They are also conveniently located, for those without a car, near the C Train. read more
